In this instalment of the "Perfect Layover" series, I take you to Canada's second largest city of Montreal, Quebec for a whirlwind day of sightseeing around this dynamic French metropolis. With only 8 hours to spare between flights, I quickly head into the city on the 747 Bus to begin my exploration.
My day begins atop stunning Mont-Royal, a small vestige of the Applachian Mountains right in the heart of downtown Montreal. After a strenuous hike up the mountainside staircases, I take in the views of the city skyline from its iconic belvedere (viewpoint). From there, I head north across the city to check out the site of the 1976 Summer Olympics and the bizarrely inclined Olympic Stadium and Tour de Montreal (Montreal Tower). After, I head back to the city center for a walk along the city's grand boulevards to the Centre Bell Arena, the home of the Montreal Canadiens hockey team. I wrap up an excellent day of sightseeing with a delicious stop at Schwartz's Deli - the birthplace of Montreal Smoked Meat.
