I spotted the PKP Pendolino during an earlier visit to Poland and was so impressed, I decided to give it a try the next time I was in the country. I travelled between Katowice and Warsaw and was very impressed. #pkpintercity

You must be kidding. This snow is nothing. A large amount of snow is from 1 m or more. I live by the Baltic Sea. Sometimes it happens that ice floes and frozen snow from the surf create 2 m high snow mountains at the junction of the sea and the beach. You can slide off them on a sled. But such winters are rare. I remember in 1978 or '79 there was as much snow as the height of a truck.

I took a trip to Poland with the girlfriend about a year ago, although we were staying in Wroclaw but passed through Warsaw and it's definitely an interesting place. "Centralna" means simply a "Warsaw Central" station, it's not a given name or some kind of district name (ok, it is, but simply means city centre 😉) For some reason, most cities in Poland has "Główny/a" as a denote for the main station (which means just that), but not Warsaw, which has this "Central" station instead 😉

I understand Central Station means Central station of whole country. That explains why there is only one Cemtral station in whole counrty, while Główny (Main) stations are in each big city.
@JustAPolishAmerican
@JustAPolishAmerican Жыл бұрын
@@czt5374 Technically, there is another Central station in Poland (which might not count, but it has that keyword in the name). It's Szczecin Port Centralny, or Szczecin Central Port. But Szczecin's Central Port is not the central port of the whole country, far from it. The Port of Gdańsk is Poland's largest port and accounts for 46% of Poland's sea import/export traffic, while the Port of Szczecin only accounts for 12% of that. The Port of Gdańsk has 3 times more traffic than Szczecin's. The truth is there was (well, now is again) a Warszawa Główna station, but it was getting inadequate and obsolete. So, they built a new station nearby to replace it. But they couldn't call it Warszawa Główna, so they had to think of a new name. Since Warsaw was (and still is) Poland's largest and most important city, they decided for it to have a more grand name, and so they named it Warszawa Centralna (Warsaw Central).

The landscape is beautiful under that white, snowy coat, isn't it? But that was not even that what we consider a "heavy snow" in Poland. I like to listen to that singing sound of a starting train. The only sound I missed here was that piece by Chopin that they play on the board while the train stops at a station. That train was going from Bielsko-Biała. If you would like to cover the gondola lifts on your channel as well, we have a nice one there. Also the Bielsko-Biała Główna train station has a nice building, even if not the biggest one. A nice, happy video, in general. Cheers.

FYI that announcement about food taking 'up to 30 minutes' is a recorded message they play on every service, because they don't hire enough staff to serve food to all of First and then serve walk-up customers in any sort of time. Sometimes you'll be lucky and it will be quick, sometimes you're waiting 45 minutes for scrambled eggs. There's also unlimited wi-fi, you just have to enter an email address.

I've never waited more that 10-15 minutes for a proper meal on Pendolino. With breakfasts its even faster. I understand that it might have been 45 minutes in a case or two but it is not the rule it's an exception. There is a lot of travel and train bloggers that were surprised by the quality of meals in Polish trains (not everyone has a WARS/restaurant car but a lot of long distant trains do) and Pendolino tops it off with a proper plate and cutleries. I usually take one that is going from Wrocław to Warsaw and back. It takes a little less than 4 hours. Comparable to a plain with all the waiting especially since I live near the train station (3 min walk).

One thing worth noting when travelling by train in Poland is that when there are two tracks either side of a platform you need to make sure which side your train goes from. So your train might go from platform (peron) 1, track (tor) 2. It's obvious most of the time, but if you're in a hurry it's possible to run onto the wrong train.

Pendolino is being called by PKP (PKP - Polish State Railways) a "Premium" train , but it's not so premium at all, it's decent at most! It's quite often late, it's not so fast, and it's not particularly clean. Toilets are especialy dreadful! In addition, as you can all see from the video, the front of the train is damaged. That's because Pendolino-s have quite a lot of misadventures on their way. Main train lines are not entirely separated from road traffic, so collisions with cars, agricultural machines, lorries are quite often. So have a nice trip and enjoy your stay!

Poland is in the middle of continental Europe, and experiences an average of 1 inch of snow per day over a period of four months each year. England is part of an island that has a relatively mild, temperate climate, and snow lies on the ground for only a few days in the year. Rail infrastructure is built to a different weather tolerance, on a cost-benefit basis. So the comparison is not really fair. That said, plenty of trains do run normally in snowy weather. It is hardly the most pressing problem currently affecting our railways.

KOZACZOK -> Cossack -> Historically, they were a semi-nomadic and semi-militarized people, who, while under the nominal suzerainty of various Eastern European states at the time, were allowed a great degree of self-governance in exchange for military service. There are also Tatars living in the same area andthat explains what Turkish/Mongolian dish is doing in Ukraine... Our Polish Tatars(Lipka) came even with Polish King to fight against Ottoman Empire(Turkish forces) in Battle of Vienna.

2:40 "I was actually very happy that Poland had received a heavy snowfall..." - Body, You really don't know the meaning of heavy snowfall in that part of the world and what's outside the train I would not even call a snow... Very nice video and indeed train looking quite good anyway....

Jestem Polakiem, ale nie słyszałem nigdy o czeburku. W moim regionie Polski nazywa się to poprostu pierogi rumiane z miesem. 🙂

To Turecko-Mongolskie danie, pewnie na wschodzie Polski spotykane ponieważ mamy tam naszych Tatarów, a sama nazwa restauracji sugeruje że zrobił je mu Kozak. ;)

"Czeburek" is not Polish cuisine. It's of Crimean Tatars and Turkish origin. It's popular in Ukraine and Podlasie voivodeship in Poland close to Belarusian border, due to polish Tatars community

Mongolo/Turco... Il ristorante era Ucraino(cosacco). Il piatto stesso è probabilmente arrivato nella nostra zona insieme ai Tartari.

Heh, that is no a heavy snow fall... during last 30 years i experienced a heavy snow cover in Poland maybe once-> half meter of snow on the ground was not so rare in the 80's... And i was forced to go wikipedia to find out what "czeburek" is as its so Polish that i heard the name for the first time in my life -> and aparently itis traditional Turkish/Mongolian people dish... 🙃 To eat something traditional and close to what we Polish people eat at home you need to find some good proper Polish restaurant.

None of these trains can run full speed still. But with proper infrastructure they will run even faster.
