I live in Durham in the UK and have been following you for 3-4 month now and in particular your soil mixes. Over here there are a few items that are not as easy to aquire as they are over there but I took the time to copy your ingrediants and set about aquiring them. Firsly was Azomite which I find is mined over there but I found a relatively cheap supplier in Ireland and I was thrilled to get it delivered haha sort of pirate quest. Next was the Kelp and Bone Meal and I added Dried Blood. Lastly and the hardest to find was the Molasses of which I bought 3 jars to keep me going...when I next got the time with my cache of plunder I was shocked to find you stopped using it due to it feeding the wrong little beasties-was gutted but that passed in 3 or 4 seconds. Can you PLEASE give me a menu to make a good mix for my conifers ie Scots Pines, Blue Spruce, Junipers, Chinese Cedar, (all young saplings) ...etc Basically a Ph 4.5 to a max 6.0 would be great. I think the Peat restrictions have caused compost producers to move over to using Coir and products like Composted Pine bark, Growbark Pine are testing out to be a steady Ph 7.0 where they used to be 4.5-5.5 and a lot of my saplings will suffer and have weak colors at the very least. I bought a bag of Sulpur but this is a slow amendment and as ALL of my babies are and will stay in containers. I have found that Miracle-Gro Ericaceous Compost is 5.5 so I do have one savior. I usually use 1/3 peat, 1/3 MG Ericaceous, 1/3 Perlite to which I can now use Azomite (would ove to have accurate weight/ratio) I also have Kelp Powder, Sulpur, Bone meal pellets, Dried Blood, Sulphate of Potash, Pure Worm Castings, Well Rotted & Shredded Horse Manure. Most I bought rather stupidly in a "just in Case I Need It" shopping mode and really have no experiance of using, however, If you can find the time to make me the best most effective potting soil mixture and I think I can follow your video to make a worm tea ( can castings be added soil mix) which I can use to drench the new mix and spray/water the remaining . In return I will make a regular monthly contribution so we both benefit SO PLEASE CAN YOU HELP

Nice videos, I like your work,,,,,Question,,,,when we talk about soil, compost and manure, if we obtain these products from our local nursery how can we be certain that they are safe to grow food in? Is there a way we can test to be sure that they are getting quality in their loads that they provide to their customers? Im not talking about OMRI listed bags of these products, but large piles that they have for sale there. I need to be sure that what Im growing in is safe,,,, TY for all your videos

Thanks for putting up all the sources and best prices for the parts! I searched a lot of bulk-ship perlite and between shipping, the best price I could get was about $9./cuft, this is similar to the Amazon link you had for 4Cuft/35. shipping included! I get the $9/ft at Home Depot, the vigoro, it beat the price of any online with the shipping costs normally charged and none of the hydroponic stores near me could beat it. (It comes as 2CuFt bag for $18. good for people who want a smaller investment to start)

Charcoal does that but NOT biochar. Biochar has been inoculated with nutrients and microbes, the house it full so it can't rob the nutrients.

I got some and used them last year for starting tomato seedlings and cabbages, kales, collards (brassicas). Anyway, cabbage roots were ok. Tomatoes did ok. Although, I didnt get the trays to hold the conetainers so slight mess up on the actual air pruning :-) so I got them afterwards and have them set up now. But, here is a youtube link where a youtuber actually grew a selection of vegetables in conetainers before transplanting them. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/f7h-jNCdmcu2oGQ.html Check out the video in particular from 5.00 minutes for leek roots and 8.00 minutes for a very good example of non spiralling bok choi root system plus 8.53 minutes for good examples of Chinese cabbage roots. He does say some spiralling though but not much. You can also remove the conetainer cells to increase the aerial space around plants should they require more room in their trays and of course, put the removed cells into another tray. Just to add, I have used them for leeks, onions, and cabbage this February, 2019. I will use them for tomatoes in March.
