We take off to play in the woods and water on some awesome spring days. Though the nights were in the low 40's, you can't beat 77 deg days. And so we cook some awesome chicken Corden Blue and Spinach Chicken Roll-ups.

Rick, I am so glad to have "found" you again. I have followed you since your NY days. Lost you for a while. I love watching your videos, a long time subscriber. I really enjoyed this video. I think that at least 50% of the sites should be kept open, would be fair for all. It is hard for me to camp anymore but hope to get out a few times this year in my minivan camper. I am 82 with all the health problems that go along with that. But the spirit is still willing though the flesh is weak so they say. Enjoyed this video, please keep up the good work. Give Akela a hug for me. Sincerely, Joyce

I Just starting watching you Rick! I love the advice and ideas you have given me. At 54, I am getting back into exploring God's beautiful creation. We will be off road camping and visiting some of the Forest campgrounds this spring and summer. Looking forward to it and enjoying the beautiful landscape in NC and SC. Keep up the great work & can't wait for new videos in the near future. Ray/ Rock Hill, SC

I can see why you like that place so much. I was waiting for Akela to shake himself off when he came out of the water and was behind you when you were sitting down. I thought for sure you were going to get a shower. The drone footage was pretty cool flying down the river. BTW: I could almost smell that chicken cooking. Cordon Bleu is one of my favorites. All in all, a great video, Rick. A little of everything. Well done, sir!

I tried making your Cordon Bleu' “Blue Ribbon” chicken before going on a camping trip. It was delicious. I cooked mine over a MSR stove since that is what I will be using. I will probably make mine ahead of time since I am 3 hours or less from several campgrounds and cook it the same evening I arrive. Loving your videos.

I enjoyed the cooking lesson gives the saying "hatchet job" a whole new meaning! How far in advance did you have to reserve your site and is it possible to get a site without reservations? What a beautiful location I really need to get up in that area more often.
@GoingNoWhereFast
@GoingNoWhereFast Жыл бұрын
Since I reserved it for Monday, I just did it about 2 weeks in advance. This campground just opened April 1st, and I don't think you could reserve before that either.. So thats when I reserved it, on Day one... So not a great answer. Sorry

Good video Rick. Nice campground, looks almost like Colorado! Now that I am retired, I purchased the "America The Beautiful" senior pass which gets you 50% discount for campgrounds at National Forests, National Parks, Corps of Engineers, BLM, etc. But I bet you already have one. I'm headed to badlands national park on tues. Good luck with the wolf pup and Aliner! Hope you at least make it to the Ozarks. Hey, Missouri is really the south!
@GoingNoWhereFast
@GoingNoWhereFast Жыл бұрын
HI there Bob. Yes, my Bratty son got me the pass when I turned 62. Its nice except that now it only covers the "Base Campsite Rate". If there is electricity, or showers, or Pretty flowers they often tack on extra fees. So it may only save you $10-$15 on a $35 campsite. But its better than a poke in the eye!! Enjoy the bad lands. I'll need a report when you get back.... They are on my 2025 planning calendar!
@astrobob9432
@astrobob9432 Жыл бұрын
@@GoingNoWhereFast Yeah, I have heard of the base rate thing, I will find out about that in person next week. I do know it's across the board 50% on Corps of Engineers campgrounds, we have a few in my area. And most national park and monument entrance fees are at least $30, so there's that saving too. I'll be sure and give you a follow up on the badlands. Might go to Theodore Roosevelt National Park too, if things work out.

Stinging nettle would be a good substitute for the spinach. If you can find some. Just have to wear gloves picking it, and steaming it removes the sting. It's really nice tasting.

In the early spring, until about now, the plants have not developed their "stingers". And they are a much taster plant too! Thanks for the suggestion, There must have been some somewhere around the river.

My favorite place to go as well Rick. Thanks for letting me know that Mortimer has had some upgrading! Did you notice any tent camping sites? Due to a lenghty illness I've not been there in several years. I'm doing well enough now that I could do an overnight, maybe catch some trout in the morning! Thanks again Sir..Stay safe and keep the vids coming...
@GoingNoWhereFast
@GoingNoWhereFast Жыл бұрын
There are always a few tent campers. The other side of the stream has walk in campsites that were occupied by a scout troop. You can see them in the beginning of the campground video. They were just unloading at the pay kiosk. Those are nice tent sites, but any of the other sites is good for tents and I have seen tents on all of them.

You can still do FCFS, but only for a day. Someone can reserve it out from under you. Silly system!!

Former Secretary of the Interior, Ryan Zinke, recently called the rec.gov reservation system a “total scam.” Personally I just won’t use it. The time spent finding a camping site that works for us is ridiculous. I know it limits possible sites to us, but it is aggravating! Zinke is calling for an investigation. I hope it is done.
@GoingNoWhereFast
@GoingNoWhereFast Жыл бұрын
Ryan Zinke apparently doesn't know what Rec.gov is. The Concessionaires that run the various parks are the ones that stipulate to the additional fees. Rec.gov just puts them on the internet so they are easy to find. As as an appointee with no real understanding of the system, I understand he is just making news to help with publicity for his election.
