It’s not fair how fisherman have to go through this. My dad said to me you don’t see fear till you see high waves around, your not sure if crew or boat is going to make it. Your in so much distress when your out in this shit weather. I have so much respect for fisherman because my dad is one. I got scared when I was little and wanted my dad to come home. Of course it's fair. It's a very tough and risky way to earn a living but everyone who goes out there knows that and they've still made the decision to go. They don't have to go through this; they've all freely made the decision that this is what they want to do and have accepted the consequences, conditions, and risks that come with it.

I've been caught in a very bad storm before. I can guarantee you. It's the most scared I've ever been in my life. The power of the ocean is ridiculous. 18 ft fishing vessel. They basically had to pry my hands off the wheel and throttle. I was responsible for all 4 souls on board. Are transome was getting swamped and we were taking on water rapidly. In the rips off Cape May, NJ. It is the scariest thing I've ever experienced. Your dad is not lying.

1:25 By the looks of those charts, The Andrea Gail would've been fucked either way. Go North into a High-pressure system that's combined with a cold front. OR take your chances going south into the teeth of a category 4 or 5 Hurricane Grace. But worst of all, try and sail into both as they merge and collide. I'd take my chances with going south into the hurricane.

They were faced with a choice: stay where they were and ride out the weather, only to lose thousands if not hundreds of thousands of dollars in fresh caught swordfish and have to throw it overboard and to the birds thus going back broke. Or risk it all with the weather and arrive in port for a major payday. Unfortunately, as they were sailing back, the weather got worse and worse than they were gone. Now their final resting place is at the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean among the countless others that have lost their lives to the same career or other things like world wars and etc

In the movie they knew that they were sailing into a really bad storm. They didn't know 3 weather systems were going to merge. In real life they were on day 3 of they're trip home when one of the storms basically formed on top of them. As another captain said, whatever happened to them happened quickly because Tyne never gave any indication that they were in any trouble. Just that bad weather was coming.

The Grand Banks in late October/early November are freezing cold. Plus, 90ft waves; gale force winds and a rogue wave to boot. Survival suits only last a few hours before they wear out. Life jackets make you bob up and down in the water and with the size of the waves, you'd just swallow a lot of crap ton of seawater and drown. Also, Great Whites and Mako's feast on floating bodies.
