Last Sunday's mission took place in a massive monsoon that canvassed all of the Persian Gulf region. The regime in Tehran was in the process of transferring nuclear and or biological weapons to a terrorist organization at Lar Airbase and this needed to be stopped with multiple flights destroying iranian EWR sites so the main body of the strike could push through the storm to Lar Airbase and strike the transport on the ramp to be used for transportation of the weapons.

This sim game is incredibly deep. Just learning to fly some of these planes well takes months. And then you have people like Spud here who can organize a whole operation with bunch of other pilots on a challenging mission, basically doing it like it's their job in a real conflict. Fantastic stuff. DCS community never ceases to amaze me.

Even if they do I would still use the B model: 1) I won't spend my hours to learn a new aircraft 2) B model looks better (the cockpit)

Great to see some Tomcat love, despite my profile photo it's easily my favourite. Modern enough to be competitive but old enough to have to do some old school pilot-age. Can never own a Tomcat, it's more of a relationship, treat her right and she'll still exceed expectations even after flying it since release, don't treat her with respect and boy will she upper cut you. Built like a steak house, but handles like a Bistro

“We know nothing about them, their language, their history or what they look like. But we can assume this. They stand for everything we don’t stand for. Also they told me you guys look like dorks.” My favorite quote to inspire my pilots before a mission!

Hey spudknocker get a question you might be able to answer. So a new f-35 goes for about 90 million US dollars and the f-14 tomcat went for approximately 40 million US dollars. I hear over and over how costly the f-14 was but how much more expensive could a f-21 tomcat really be if we spend 90 million on these f-35? I know one could also argue maintenance...I see new newer materials requiring less maintenance on the mechanical end. Thanks for your time
@JelmerSt
@JelmerSt 4 жыл бұрын
The F-14s variable wingsweep was a very costly process since the parts had to be swapped out a lot and were quite expensive. The F-35 is also the number 1 or 2 most stealthy fighter in the world. Also the radar, and all other sensors are quite outdated now in the F-14. I would be the first person to cheer on an F-14 Super Tomcat 21 with all the fancy equipment we have nowadays, but I dont think this will be cheap either. So the F-35 it is. :D
@TheZ28SSman
@TheZ28SSman 4 жыл бұрын
@@JelmerSt thankyou Sir for the response. To bad they couldn't figure out how to use a opposing magnetic force where at high speed a magnet would push the wings in and slower speeds push the wings out. Simply put three magnets together and veriate their + - percentage which would cause center magnet in the case the wing to sweep in and out
@NyteStalker89
@NyteStalker89 4 жыл бұрын
@@TheZ28SSman Even with that, there would need to mechanical things in place to keep the angle of sweep in the event that the electrical system to the magnetic system had an issue. That mechanism would still be costly and a pain to maintain. Plus, the Navy likes having less atypical airframes for ease of maintenance. If you only have one or two different aircraft types, you save a lot of space on spare parts. I'd love for another Tomcat, but its not gonna happen. Hell, the F-22 started development in the 70's and went into service in 2005. The F-35 started active development in the 80's/early 90's and just went into service a few years ago.. A Tomcat 21 would easily be 20-30yrs in development. By that time, drones would be the main combat aircraft in every branch of the military sadly :/

Ever see the movie "Pentagon wars"? Well the F-35 is the new Bradley as in a big waste of money.
@SirMo
@SirMo Жыл бұрын
@@oldmanfunky4909 Planes are only too expensive when they are produced in small numbers. But F-35 has had a lot of orders and the cost has dropped since. Like last year it dropped from $89 million to nearly $78.
