Here’s a first look a the Vango F10 Nexus UL 2 tent!
Looking at the specification of this tent on paper it seems like it could be absolutely perfect for wild camping in the UK. Being based in Scotland, Vango design and develop all of their tents for UK weather conditions. So with the weight and pack siz of this tent, in theory it should be perfect for the kind of wild camping that I do.
This is a first pitch of the tent to make sure everything is correct and present before I take it out on a few adventures and test it in some different weather conditions. I am hoping that this will be my go to tent for all of my camping trips at least until I find another new tent to try out!
Vangooooooooo!
SPECIFICATION
The Vango F10 Nexus UL 2 tent combines the best of space and stability for outdoor adventurers. Drawing from the success of the Helium UL, this semi-freestanding marvel offers ample room for two and their gear, with dual doors and porches for added convenience. Pre-bent poles boost headspace, enhancing comfort within.
Its Powerlite pole system ensures durability, resisting pole failures even in harsh conditions. Swift setup is guaranteed, especially when the weather turns, and its Protex 15 SRN flysheet stands strong with a 3,000mm hydrostatic head rating. Versatile and robust, the Nexus UL 2 is tailor-made for those seeking reliable shelter in varied environments.
⚫️ Protex 15 Denier Silicone Reinforced Nylon flysheet provides the optimum strength to weight ratio with a rating of 3000mm
⚫️ PowerLite Plus Poles Alloy poles are lightweight, compact and durable
⚫️ Bathtub design groundsheet for maximum protection with a rating of 6000mm
⚫️ TXS Stability System is an evolution of the TBS, creating a X-shape with high tensile cord for extra stability
⚫️ Flysheet first or pitch as one set up options
⚫️ Breathable inner reduces build up of condensation and also features handy storage pockets
⚫️ Fully tapes seams throughout fly and groundsheet
⚫️ Pitching Time: 7 minutes
⚫️ Capacity: 2 person
⚫️ Pack Size: 33 x 13cm (I measured 38 x 15cm)
⚫️ Weight: 1.7kg (I weighed 1.96kg)

I bought a 2-man Vango Force Ten CN Mk 2 tent, from "Blacks" in Plymouth, in 1978. That had the Orange inner with Built-in Rubber Groundsheet/Tray and the Green Nylon Flysheet. The pegs were Corrugated Steel V-channel with 'ears'. The Groundsheet had Six Rubber eyes - one at each corner and another two mid-way along the tray. The Flysheet also had six rubber eyes which were elongated and stretchy. A pair of Guy-ropes were fitted half-way up the flysheet and held the flysheet away from the inner tent. There were clips which also held the inner tent in tension, so the walls didn't flap in the breeze. The Poles were alloy with elastic bungies to hold them together. It used an A-frame arrangement at the Entrance, with a Ridge-pole and a Single support at the narrow end of the tent, which was Wedge shaped. Additional Twin Guy ropes were fitted at the top of the A-frame and at the foot end of the tent. The suggested method of erection was hang the tent from the ridge pole and A-frame, then add the Flysheet, but a simple modification meant I could erect the flysheet on the poles first, then hang the inner if it was raining; starting at the Foot of the tent and working towards the Door. My only complaint about the tent, was that I couldn't sit upright in it, even at the tall end, as although I'm only 5 ft 8 inches tall, I'm short in the legs and long in the body. At 3.6 Kilos, it was a bit heavy as a One-man carry, especially when also carrying my Army Issue 'Green Slug' sleeping bag. It got twenty years of quite heavy-duty use, from Wild camping on Dartmoor, to various Folk Festivals and even wild camping in Wales. It lived up to its name of Force Ten and even survived a Force Twelve on Two occasions; one on Dartmoor and the other on the Brecon Beacons. I last used it five years ago and it is still in very good condition, as the Rubber tray hasn't perished and all fixing points are still intact. After every use, it gets cleaned and thoroughly dried and then put away folded - not packed - in a cool dry place. I can't remember what I paid for it, but it wasn't cheap at the time and it's been proven to be worth every penny. Russ. Hampshire. UK.

From South Africa clock in number 41 😂 You and me both..... I snagged Kestrel III made by Back-packer...... 44 years ago ! In absolute pristine condition, and by pristine , as it left the factory.... Came with the Y adaptor accessory, still has the assembly sheet.! Back then, the Kestrel by Back-packer was used on mega adventures such as Killy. I had the Kestrel Ii when I was in my early teens and when in the mountains, a situation developed, and that tent probably saved my life. Like every tent there are small improvements, like toggle chords on the zippers, a second bag, (1 for the fly, 1 for the inner) I've put the original pegs aside to preserve them and substituted steel pegs.... the originals are alliminium alloy, and refreshed my memory of how the poles nest, one inside the other in groups of 3, and there are a few tiny things that I remember, like one wrap of insulation tape round the rubber feet to keep them in the poles.... Aaaaaaaa memories 44 years old, and I opened and pitched it, for the second time in the tents life.... ❤ Have to brag.... Pitched it today

I do like a Vango tent. I've the helvellyn 300 and the Tempest 200. They're both good tents, but I do prefer a tarp or a hammock for my wild camping. Great review, will be good to see how this fares up on a wild camp and hear your thoughts afterwards.

Looks very similar to the Helm 2, Vango could be onto a winner there. They’re not the only Helm copycats though, at the outdoor expo OlPro had the Ranger 2 on display for just £87, but of course had lesser materials and heavier pack weight for that outlay.

If the head height was 100cm I would of bought this as everything else is bang on! vestibule's could be bigger but like you say the majority of your gear would be inside. Looks like i'll be rubbing my bald head on the helm1 inner a bit longer.. the wait goes on for a tent with decent head room.. one of the best colour tents going , really stealthy in dogging areas I reckon.

It reminds me a lot of my Decathlon's Quickhiker 2. It was a bit heavier, but they made a lighter version later. QH has much bigger vestibules though and was priced at somewhat about 80-90 EUR. I wonder why there aren't that many single-pitch tents, it makes a ton of difference in the rain.

I have the Vango Banshee 200 an excellent tiny tent with an extremely low profile that's suited to windy conditions however the bathtub is rather thin and I don't feel confident camping around thorns briars or rocks sure an footprint would give more strength but I ask any who may have the experience of this tent..Is the groundsheet anymore robust than the Banshee or what's your opinion or practical use experience regards this tents groundsheet?

I've had other Vango tents and they've had that storage pocked for the tension strap but they are where you would have expected to find them.🤷‍♂️ For the money and weight, I'll stick with my Forclaz MT900 as it has better headroom all round, bigger vestibule and even extra groundsheet for kit storage in the vestibules. This one does seem to have more solid mesh on the inner though, so perhaps better in worse weather?.

Being honest, I wouldn't be swapping my Coleman Cobra for it. Two doors, sturdy as hell, yes, the Cobra is heavier but I'll take that trade. More room & half the price. I know, Coleman aren't the most desirable tents but I've been using the 2 & 3 for last couple of years and they just work for me. Never had an issue with water ingress or condensation. Maybe if I was going on a multi-day hike, that extra 900 grms might make me rethink my choice though 😁

Looks like solid tent, do you get a free cute dog with every Vango tent they sell or was it just yours? I like the idea of the reinforcement ties/straps for only when you need them, could you not just tuck the loose string under the floor, until you hopefully never need it, but yeah its the UK so you probably will. As for that style of tent door, its handy to have a length of tent pole from one of your other squillions of tents you been sent for free (or a trekking pole) or maybe a wissened old stick to tie out and use as a mini awning, somewhere to sort of cook your beans under 👍

Vango tents, the best ever value for money & performance. I had a Vango Mk1 tent, lasted 37 years of hard use in all weathers / seasons / environments. UV finally degraded the flysheet, no longer waterproof, and, you know what? They wouldn't take it back under guarantee. Can't understand why. So now, after extensive research, since 2017 I have a Vango Xenon U/L 2 person tent, just BRILLIANT design, 4 season. Sadly due to disintegrating knees and age related issues, I can be sure that it will outlast me, if only that I can't use it like I had hoped

The guy weighted the Tent with price and shop information still attached. It’s cards and I imagine when extra sewn in label info inside is removed.. and repair kit ..the weight of Tent …will be 1.9 kilo Hope that helps buyers .

You forgot to measure the height, cos if you did do you’d of seen that Vango have blatantly lied about that particular spec!! It’s actually only 87-88cm tall at the highest point on the inner tent, (outer tent is only 97cm tall) it should be 95cm and 105cm according to the supplied spec sheet diagram!?..🤷🏻‍♂️ That’s a huge variance, I think they should of stated 90/100cm which would have been a little more accurate… However, after testing it out up a hill the other night I can confirm that it’s not (I’m 5-10”) an issue for me. I’d describe it as spacious but cosy because of that lower height! Reminds me of the dens I used to make as a kid, and as such is currently my favourite shelter out of the eight I now own.. 👍🏻
