Great advice 😄 Something worth mentioning is that, while it's true that you can remove one of the puck mounting points, it is important to be aware that the physical clearance for the puck's post will still be needed on all four posts.

Yes good point - will pin this. On of the pins of my controller actually pokes into the leg thread hole of the puck! That was luck more than judgement.

Ben, can you please make a video explaining your current keyboard layout and the thought process behind it? You've made a lot of keyboard-related videos over time but I'm not sure which ideas you actually ended up sticking with.

Inspired hugely by you, I got my Iris keyboard a couple weeks ago and my Ferris Sweep arrived today. I'm about to order tenting pucks and clamps, again almost entirely due to your channel. Thank you! PS Your US Amazon link for clamp rigs didn't work directly, but your UK one did so I was able to find the product! :)

I thought these might be good for my bespoke keyboard build, but I'd like it to lay flat if no tripod is connected. I found an STL file of the tenting puck, and was able to modify it into a simple flat puck in FreeCAD, allowing it to sit inside the case atop the bottom plate with a small centre-hole in the plate providing access to the puck.

an issue I have with hover typing in general is that I tense up all over if I have to hover my hands anywhere at all, even slightly. I never gain the same level of comfort compared to laying my lower arms on a table and then touch typing
@BenVallacksKeyboards

Have you tried it at those lower angles like I show in the video? I wonder if that's the reason I don't find it an issue.

@@BenVallacksKeyboards i assume that this indeed solves the problem. I do not own a split KB, so I cannot exaclty emulate your situation. I may try and do it with a non-split one eventually

Maybe try super light switches? My guess would be that you would unlearn to activate the switches quickly, meaning that you have to relax your fingers 🙂

Another Awesome video 🥰 Your information has been so useful in my keyboard journey. I'm now happily using a Corne V2 with ultralight linear Kailh 25g Purple switches (lovingly called Purpz 😅). Soon im going to add a foldable treadmill in combination with a standing desk to my home office setup. I did see these Smallrig clamps in your latest videos & having worked in the movie industry, they'd add an extra sweet touch of personality. My Corne is in a Aluminium case without any holes and I'll probably use some industry strength 3M double sided tape to attach these tenting pucks.

That sounds great. I’m actually not 100% convinced by the treadmill. It’s a bit annoying that my walk gait can’t move with an arm swing. It feels a bit unnatural. I’m wondering if a cycle desk might actually be the better solution. I’ll aim to try both and compare.

It kind of looks like gravity is causing some minor ulnar deviation, where the hand drops down in the direction of the pinky relative to the wrist.

Yeah I know what you mean - it feels very neutral to me though. I think it might just be the way it looks. I’ll see if I can some better shots to see what’s going on there.

@@BenVallacksKeyboards yeah, I tried it out myself, and it seems that the effect is reduced when I lower my arms to the angle you're at. I agree, it feels pretty comfortable. I can also straighten out fully if I do it deliberately, but I'm guessing I would sag a bit over time. Also, I wonder if the effect on the body is different when gravity is doing it vs. when muscular tension is doing jt.

I kind of love the bare PCB of these keyboards, as the aesthetic matches the stripped-to-essentials nature. Though it could be useful to make a mount that's either more robust against being bumped, or with features and other mounts. 🤔 ...like a TrackPoint.... I've avoided jumping fully into tiny keyboards because I am not prepared to do without one, even though I built a Ferris Sweep and liked it. I think I may have played a part in nudging you towards that Sweep rabbit hole Ben that then led to DIY. But perhaps my answer after all is just to find an independent TrackPoint and mount them together. I can live with wired until/unless ZMQ and TrackPoints get fully up to speed.

@@BenVallacksKeyboards kust as an fyi, I bought a 3d printer recently and I have to say, while there are some caveats to this, it’s actually pretty much plug and plug right now

Apparently, my comment did not come through due to links in it, so I would just repeat an idea of it: Tripod mount is straightforward, but have you consider gopro-style buckle latch or, better still, something like Deckmate for Steam Deck (can be found on printables)
