Hey there Big Strapper. Good to see you. Happy you dropped around to catch today's video. What is your attachment and memory to the 359 Pete? Did you own one, drive one, or just have a love for this classic truck?

First truck I fell in love with as a little kid, 1986 359 EXHD with a 3406 four and quarter. Classic brown color. My Grandma's neighbor was the owner and truck driver. First big rig I ever got to ride in. Will never forget the unique sound of the turbo on those engines. What an experience!

I don't have any personal attachment to the 359 but a good friend of mine does. A couple of years ago, he finished restoring one that his dad bought new in the late 1970s. It served as their grain truck for many years and is now filling that roll again. I've driven it to the elevator several times and I can see why they have such a following. His 359 is powered by it's original Cat (3208?) V-8 and 15 speed trans, both rebuilt of course but, he did swap in a more modern low air leaf rear suspension. When I think back to the old Mack R model that we had as a farm truck, the difference between the 2 is night and day! I do have many fond memories of our old "1 stack Mack with a window in the back" though.

I loved the long hoods. They had true style. This is why I love the Westernstar 4964 EX Constellation series. They, both interior and exterior are a true eye-catcher. I know many troopers saw my trucks all of the time. They were a true show horse and you could see it as far as the eye could see. I had mirror stainless every place I could and then chrome where I had no choice. The truck was washed weekly, if not daily. It was polished all of the time. I was really sad to have to sell it in 2006 before the economy crashed. It was the most well-balanced truck I ever drove.

My dad had an 82, I spent a couple summers in it with him bouncing all over the country. I learned to drive (so I thought at the time) on a different 359 with a 318 and a 9-speed.. had to drive it like you stole it with that one!! The most iconic truck in my opinion!!!

359’s are great, but I’m a sucker (masochist) and absolutely LOVE a 362 with a 110” cab! I just love the visibility and maneuverability of a cab over.

Cabover lover, 😂 Get yourself a Swedish Scania 770hp top of the line big V8 'longline' .. vroom! 🤣 That's what we long for in Europe 🤣 Google Scania V8s. Everything, now came from British Leyland, the PACCAR engine, and the Scania V8. The British don't build trucks (lorrys, waggins (wagons) anymore. Your word 'truck' comes from the English word for wheels on a cannon? The best diesel engine builders, Rolls Royce, went to Perkins. Leyland went to PACCAR, if British Leyland were still building the engine it would still be the best in the world. But you ain't got the guy's anymore and neither do we. The Scania V8 is the best engine in the world owned by Scania with British engineering, seems like the Swedes are better at engineering a good thing, awesome!

At least with trucks, companies are not using the same number (359) and changing the body style. I would refer to the mustang, chevy impala, etc. The 359 is the 359 and the 379 is the 379

Can't beat the view through the glass of a ol " Nickel 9 ". Owned 4 379's myself 88 - 94 - 02 - 07 . Still got (Bessie) dad's ol 81 long hood V-8 w/. 5n4 Don't run her much - haul 3/4 loads of cattle in fall & move a little hay locally . She earned her spot in her private stall in shop . Built this shop & this family w/ her $ ....

The turning radius on a 351 must have been really bad, because my 359 was way worse than the 379s I drove later. It was an ‘86, ex Allied Van Lines decked out with chrome and chicken lights, 425 3406B with a 13 speed. Don’t remember what rears it had, but it was a stump puller. Tached out at 72 mph at 2100 rpm, but would pull 80k up Donner like nothing. Would dig so hard, it would throw little chunks of rubber off the drives.

Flatbed , oversize, logs, etc. 379 cab was tighter but never looked as good as a 359,,and anyone that would ruin a Pete by not having a flattop sleeper, can't appreciate the 359 flattop look, actually they look even better with 36" bunk, long hood

I don't get why drivers find KW or Pete are so great..I have almost 30 years driving and driven every make except western star I find freightliner is the most comfortable don't give a rip about style or coolness any truck can be spec to do over a hundred all I care about is what I get paid
