In this video, we take a look at a beautiful Petrof 125G upright piano with a glossy mahogany finish. Petrof pianos have been made by five generations of the Petrof family in the Czech Republic since 1864. This particular instrument has some wonderful high-end features, including a slow-fall keyboard cover, and agraffes for every string, helping the piano to have a more beautiful tone. Very beautiful playing. It seems like the attack relationship of this piano's sound is weaker compared to other pianos, and the sustain is short and decay is quick (in the middle register), or something along those lines. It might be the room and the recording though. It gives a mellow impression. The bass is warm and strong, the middle tones have some color. The high I can't tell, because the beautiful piece didn't include those. The response to dynamic range is a big factor too, in an instrument's tone, yes? As you described, "gentle and warm". How it's tuned is also important I think. Is this how Petrofs sound like in general? Thanks :)

This is what THIS Petrof sounded like, and I agree that it was probably the recording being less than full fidelity. This model piano, the 125 G, is actually from Petrof’s second tier upright pianos being somewhat shorter than their top upright pianos. I wouldn’t base your opinion of Petrof on this particular piano. The Petrof grands and their concert grands especially are considered to be among the best of the best pianos in the world.

It is totally the recording process and the room size. I guarantee that if recorded in a professional studio with higher end equipment your experience would be different.
