Step into the haunting world of Gaston Leroux's timeless classic, "The Phantom of the Opera." First published as a serialized novel in the French newspaper "Le Gaulois" from September 1909 to January 1910, this gripping tale has captivated audiences for over a century. Leroux's masterpiece blends historical events at the Paris Opera during the 19th century with an apocryphal tale, creating a rich tapestry of mystery, romance, and intrigue.

As strange events unfold and the line between reality and fantasy blurs, Christine finds herself drawn into a world of music, passion, and dark secrets.
Immerse yourself in the atmospheric setting of Paris and the grandeur of the Opera House as you unravel the mystery of the Phantom. With its unforgettable characters, lush descriptions, and a plot that keeps you guessing until the very end, "The Phantom of the Opera" is a literary masterpiece that has inspired countless adaptations on stage and screen.
Join us on this mesmerizing audio journey as we bring Leroux's immortal words to life, and experience the story that has left an indelible mark on the world of literature and popular culture.

YES! The only other audiobooks for Phantom online are either a Librevox copy with multiple different readers of varying skill, OR a fantastic, but abridged, version by Christopher Lee. Great to see a skilled narrator tackling the whole thing!

I think you would love the book. Try to get an annotated version. Understanding the historical background of the story and the ideas and historical events that influenced Leroux adds more depth to this fascinating story, at least it did for me. They have annotated versions on Amazon. 😊

This audiobook is a Masterful Narration of this classic! Unless you have read this book in the past, you know that the theatrical versions and films are not the entire story! I have watched several Phantom of the Opera movies, and none of them come close! Listening to this audiobook provided me with several hours of insight and enjoyment! Thanks again!👏👏👏❤❤❤

Descend into the dark depths of the Paris Opera with Gaston Leroux's classic, 'The Phantom of the Opera'. This haunting tale blends mystery, romance, and terror into a moving narrative about the disfigured musical genius known as the Phantom, who hides beneath the opulence of the opera house. Obsessed with the beautiful soprano Christine Daaé, their love story becomes dark and tragic as. his passion becomes a frightening obsession. Prepare to be captivated by the lush settings, dramatic twists and ghostly presence that has enchanted readers and audiences for over a century.

One thing that has really struck me listening to a few of these longer novels is how much writing styles have changed. Now a book has to 'grab' a reader in the first few pages. With any horror, ghost or crime story there is always something creepy or horrific in the first chapter to 'hook' a reader in. Or if the first chapter is a happy family arriving at a new - suspiciously cheap - house that is about to tear apart their lives then their will be a preface of the awful fate of the last family, or the initial horror that started the chain of hauntings etc a century ago. With a crime novel the detective often arrives at the scene of the goriest killing in the first few pages. Yet with older novels the pace at the start is often far more ponderous. I suspect if The Phantom of the Opera was written today it would start with the discovery of the hanged body being found - the rope mysteriously missing. Or perhaps the recounted sighting of a floating head of flames with yellow eyes. Same with Dracula, and Frankenstein, I wonder if they would even make it past the initial reader at a modern publishers?

Really enjoyed this, thanks. I'll say again- I find your narration easy to listen to, whereas the audio books in my local library that I have had out I find a bit frustrating. (I'll take them out only if there is no paper copy of a book I want). I generally find narrated books very slow - I'm usually a fast reader and have difficulty reading aloud myself, as my eyes tend to move faster than my mouth can keep up. When I listen to an audiobook it's a bit like listening to a single on 33rpm - it feels like the story is going into my brain too slowly. BUT I've never felt that with your narration - I wonder if it's because the old stories are more 'complicated' (use words now sometimes a little antiquated), so I would read those more slowly myself anyway. Though I also didn't find your recent Cumbrian Ghost stories frustratingly slow either. Perhaps it being a familiar West Cumbria accent also helps, lol.
