@RalphBaumgartl I would actually define Berlin as a Movement, quite similar to the Abstract Expressionist in Movemnt in the visual arts that took place in New York. Both were an effort to create art that was unique and independent of the classical era, which dominated the scene at the time. Both were the result of European artists looking to earn a living with a classical education in a contemporary period. Neither New York or Berlin were accepted by the status quo as " real" art or music at the time. Today, the music of TD is firmly embedded in the soundtracks of movies like Risky Business and considered to be virtually iconic.

+Rafael Peña Hello Rafael, Bernie and Frank are both professional musicians. You are 19 years old, that’s great, so you just make music with the equipment that is at your disposal. Use whatever inspires you and what is affordable to you. Bernie is old enough to be your grandfather. Maybe your analogue synth cave will be much larger than Bernie’s when you are at his age ;-) Please also bear in mind that less equipment can also spark creativity. Just make music, please don’t be under the impression that you have to acquire a certain amount of equipment before you are ready to make music…you can just start with apps on a smart phone. I used to make very poor grades when I was in high school so coming home to my laptop and churning out music that made me happy on Fruity Loops was a really good way to spend my time and forget about the world around me. I still make music but for around a year or so my creativity has been on a steady downhill slump, things haven't really been the same since I got out of high school. Ralph Baumgartl VLog Part of it is the pressure I've created for myself. I had this music mentor over the internet a few years ago by the name of Keiji Yamagishi, he did the music for the video game Ninja Gaiden back in the 80's for the NES. I did some snooping and I found his Facebook and eventually he made a post on his profile that highlighted the details about his first album that he was in the process of making since the 80's. He was releasing it with this label that I hadn't heard of called Brave Wave, it looked like a rather small albeit professional label and I told myself, "I don't care what it takes, I'm going to release my album on that record label." If you look on my bandcamp, I upload the demo that I sent to the record label in an email (the King Cold demo) and sure enough, they contact me saying that they accept my demo and told me to send in 5 tracks of the new record. For months I was in my bedroom making tracks but they never felt good enough to me given the quality of the other releases on the record label, and since the initial email I still haven't sent the record label any music for the record, and I've already made 4 different versions of the same album. I've since had to talk to the head of the label again because an entire year had passed since they accept my demo and I wanted to make sure they were still on board with it. He got back to me saying that it was fine and to send in 5 tracks for evaluation, I did that in January and once again, I hardly have any tracks worth sending. I've manage to finish 2 though! The song that I initially sent you and this other one that I made in Bitwig Studio after I switched from FL Studio. +Rafael Peña Hello Rafael, I have listened to both tracks. They are pretty cool and I like them both. Make sure you finish the other 3 tracks and send the package to the label guys asap. Here’s a brief bullet point list, which I hope makes you shift into gear. 1. Always set yourself a deadline for shipment (releasing your work). Yes, I know you are scared that people might reject it, but you never find out if people like it until you actually ship your work. 2. Delaying your work by a year does not really send a professional signal to the label guys, but what is actually worse, is what your are telling your subconscious: You do not follow through on the promises and commitments to yourself and others, and that makes you feel bad about yourself which results in even lesser drive and creativity. This applies to all people, including me. Once you break your commitments and promises, you begin to distrust yourself on a subconscious level. 3. An ounce of DOING (making music and shipping your work) is worth a ton of theorising (pondering whether your music is good enough) This may sound a bit harsh, but I think you have talent and you should not waste time double guessing and doubting. Even if you fail and people reject your music, you can tell yourself that you have tried it. When people are on their deathbed they rarely regret the things they have done, more often they regret the things they have not tried and the chances they have not taken. Greetings Ralph

Hello John, there are many ways how to approach the syncing layout depending on the equipment that I am using. In many cases I have the Korg Electribe providing the Midi Clock to sync up vintage synths like my ARP 2600. The Arturia Keystep is acting as Midi/CV interface and as a controller in this scenario. In the case of using only pre Midi vintage equipment you have the option of using an LFO or a trigger signal as master clock. Hello John, I haven't yet tried the Keystep as the master. I shall test that one day. But please bear in mind that there is no standard way for syncing pre midi equipment. It always depends on the synthesizers/sequencers/drum machines and usually involves a lot of trial and error testing. But I guess that's part of the fun ;-) When two musicians are playing and controlling sequencers at the same time it makes sense that they are synced to the same master device. But that also depends on the type of music and the artistic goals they have in mind. Anything goes in art and music :-) Greetings, Ralph

I "acquired" a Korg Delta, Oberheim OB1 and an ARP2600 between 1981 and 1983. But I was very fortunate that I had a supportive friend and music teacher who allowed me to use his Home Studio every now and then. During school vacation my dad drove me there, as he lived around 250 kilometers away from my home.
