When I was growing up on the Gold Coast, Australia, the Q1 was being built, we were told that it was an experimental building for a bigger builder which was going to happen in our “sister city” Dubai. We had lots and lots of UAE expats here prior to the build and during, once completed, they packed up and went home. Many of them took their Holden VT and VE SS commodores. I caught up with a few of them every time I was in Dubai. But yeah, not sure how true the story about the Q1 is but that’s what we were told.

Very interesting! I never would have thought the friction of those two phone books, Inter-leafed together would create that much friction. The Burj Khalifa is a marvel of modern engineering. For most of us we see an extremely tall building and are impressed but there is so much more to it then that.
