I always liked how the experience of the Genesis version and the SNES versions were different instead of how the game on the current gen hardware are mirrors of each other.

It's always interesting when different developers produce vastly different games for different consoles for the same intellectual property. It was the same with Batman Returns on SNES and Genesis.

Hard to pick one over the other since they're different genres, but I will say the Genesis one at least feels more unique compared to the SNES which comes off as another dime-a-dozen beat-em-up

Oh wow...I never even knew that this game had a SNES rendition. I always thought Genesis'/Megadrive's version was the only game ever released under that license. Played the flying Fs out of it back in the mid-90s, essentially 100%'ing the game.

These are two completely different games. So, I can’t really compare. The Sega one is an adventure game, and the SNES is like an arcade-ish beatem’up type if game. Both games should definitely be owned by any true collector. But, if I were to choose between the two, then I would go with the SNES version 100% of the time, since I love that kind of sword slashing/beatem’up style game better. Hope it helps any one out there ;)

The fighting looks cool on super Nintendo, but I'm annoyed that the characters are yellow instead of brown. Sega genesis isn't as hyper and it looks better.

I don't know anything about the Super Nintendo version but I like how in this video it looks like it plays like Streets of Rage 2 from Sega Genesis again I've never owned a Super Nintendo so I don't really have anything to compare it to but it looks like Streets of Rage for Sega Genesis I have fully completed the Sega Genesis version of Pirates of Dark Water though

Joguei a do mega na época e do snes no emulador. Fico com a do mega, é um jogo mais bonito e imersivo, boa trilha, intros, até efeitos sonoros, melhor resolução. O do SNES desde o começo se nota a baixa resolução, hackn slah bem genérico. Gosto das conversões de mega por apostar geralmente em algo diferenciado, arriscando até.

são dois jogos com mesmo nome mais com estilo de jogabilidade diferente, quer disser são praticamente dois jogos diferente, então não da pra comparar, vai do gosto de jogo do jogador, quem gosta estilo final fither fica com snes e com gosta do estilo castelvania e flasblak fica com o mega.

i watched the cartoon back in the day, and i did play the SNES game, and i thought it was tough, but fair. I think the SNES had more of the look and feel to the show then the Sega, except for the music. I like beat em up, and even though most beat em up are very similar, this one was better then average. i really don't care for the action adventure genre like in the sega version, and i feel that sega made many of those type of games on their system, and lacked many beat em up. only ones i can really name are SOR, Golden Axe series, TMNT. So maybe having Pirates of Dark Water be a beat em up would of gave them more diversity because they already had a ton of Action Adventure like games.

I just hate this Mega Drive game so I think the snes game looks more fun.

Well uhhhhhh..... they're different types of games, so I'll be looking at them objectively in their genres when I come check the gameplay, though I haven't played either... For graphics though, SNES looks more appealing, but Mega Drive looks more impressive and moody (I especially love the palette changing in different areas to suit the lighting). I'd say a tie there. Presentation, Mega Drive got this hands down. Far better looking intro, prettier title screen, among other things. Audio... this is a strange case. Mega Drive got the moodier end of the soundtracks, but it does a decent job at it. SNES actually got the "rockin" kind, though it doesn't fare as well due to its rather shrill twang it has to it. Other SNES games did that type of sound better. Now on to the gameplay, and oooo boy there's a lot different about them. SNES looks like a Final Fight clone. Similar health bars, similar mechanics, etc. They didn't even try to hide it. However, despite using smaller sprites, the game still limits you to 4 characters on screen?! I wonder how a 2-player game runs.... Either way, it definitely looks like it can hurt the SNES version, but to its credit, it does look faster than Final Fight on SNES... but what's up with the food placement??? No food before the boss? Does the game WANT you to die?! It seems quite frustrating. Mega Drive looks like a hack n slash platformer. I do appreciate the attempt of combat variety (throwing an opponent off the screen? Heck yeah!) and it looks a lot more forgiving than the SNES game, so it seems more fun. Not sure how stale it can get though, but for being less frustrating, the Mega Drive takes the cake for gameplay too. Overall, I'd say Mega Drive wins here.

Bem interessante esse game não conhecia! Gostei mais do estilo de jogo do SNES mais Beat em Up!! O do Mega é bem aventura!! Tanto que na parte sonora a do Mega é um som bem leve e a do SNES bem Rock n Roll!! Em questão de gráficos achei a do Mega bem mais bonita e detalhada e a do SNES tbm é ótima!! No som gostei mais do SNES por ser bem Rock! Mas a do Mega tbm tem um som bem bonito e mais leve!!! Enfim 2 versões ótimas!!

SNES is way better. I played both games, I like both, and I know both games are different genre, BUT the problem with Genesis version is a poor work in controls, the game have a bad detection of direction and attacks.

My fav system was the genesis and steers of rage 2 That being said pirates of dark water was better than steers of rage.

The Sega game was superior, more fun, challenging and had better music and storytelling elements.

O SNES é mais divertido o do mega melhor intro e resolução mas fico com o SNES.

Slightly better then average action platformer vs a medicore beat em up that over stays its welcome taking 1.5-2 hours to complete. Definitely Genesis in this case. If the SNES version had a bigger moveset and more enemies on screen could have been more competitive.

Gráficos da abertura muito melhores no Mega e ingame só um pouco . Ele é quem devia ter ficado com o estilo beat'n up pois esse tipo de jogo costuma ter inúmeros elementos se movimentando de uma vez na tela e quem tem CPU a mais forte lida melhor com esses tipos de cálculos . O SNES se daria melhor com o jogo do Mega pela sua maior gama de cores e ação mais cadenciada . A Sunsoft inverteu as bolas e ambos os jogos são uma porcaria

SNES no contest, The graphics are really great on the genesis version but the game kind of sucks. The snes game on the other hand is great fun - lots of attack buttons, something you don't see in beat'em ups much.

Genesis game has a lot more personality to it, unique style and great music. Snes version is a poorly executed goldex axe clone.

Looks like by watching the video the more challenging game definitely Sega Genesis believe me I know it's difficult it takes probably about 4 hours and you need to get everyone up you can find you've got a fully explore Bobo Mountain

Sou fã da versão do Mega, mas a do Snes eu nunca joguei.

The snes version was easier to make, a forgettable game, the genesis version is a platformer, also it is closer to the tv show story, a really good platformer. Also it look like a beat em up at times, as you noticed you can grab enemies and throw them, this feature i haven't seen in another platformer
