I totally get what Mo was talking about when it comes to racism + JBC, but he low-key doesn’t belong on the panel. While us fans do judge the queens, we aren’t the ones determining their fate on the show. I would expect someone with more history and skill in drag/fashion/makeup to be a judge of the queens over Ru’s crush

Monique covering for his shady behavior by saying people are internally racist was such a stretch. Big assumption here but, most of the audience of drag race is accepting of the LGBT community, I don’t think many people watching and judging Jeffreys behavior are just racist.
@MountEeerie

@@michaelpeluso7415 you think Monique is covering for JBC's "shadiness"? Honestly.....delusion. The queens know him better than a loud and annoying (and yes, probably racist given the track record of white drag race fans!) group of fans basing their opinion off of a heavily edited show. The queens LOVE JBC almost across the board.

That’s REAL ignorance. No. Literally listen to any of his comments and pretend it was Santino, Michelle, ANYONE. Not ONE of them have ever been as unnecessarily rude, racist, body shaming, ignorant, or downright idiotic as a number of statements Michelle, Santino, or RuPaul have said. Michelle told Coco she went from “orange to soot”. She said a black woman looks. Like. Soot. Michelle has tastelessly implied people do not work hard with comments like “so you’ve done SOMETHING” or outright barking “do you care??” at people. Jeffrey has never done any of those things. His most “controversial” critiques have been of white queens. This is not a coincidence. It reminds me of the experiment of sending in the exact same resumes/job applications with a female name attached as opposed to a gender neutral name. It resulted in the exact same content receiving wildly different criticism; the same exact information attached to a woman’s name was questioned, not believed, and/or given the main critique that she would need to prove further how qualified she REALLY was. The information under a gender neutral name was assumed to be a male’s application, and so was not questioned the same way - of course a man accomplished this experience, of course a man knows what he’s talking about. This is a light black person saying the same things, if not NICER and more gently put, as whiter judges and being called not just mean, but UNEDUCATED, UNCULTURED, UNPRODUCTIVE - these are all damn ancient code words for racism against black people guys. Like seriously I’ve never seen a more blatant and embarrassing en masse display of unintentional white supremacy… I’m dead ass, literally look at the words coming out of his mouth and tell me again how they are so much less professional or helpful than Michelle Visage legit asserting she couldn’t possibly body shame anyone because of having a history with bulimia… it’s an excuse and it’s offensive and one dimensional, and not one thing Jeffrey has ever said on camera comes even close to that unapologetic ignorance and idiocy.
@Barec76
@Barec76 3 жыл бұрын
@@acoupleanutcases I don't like JBC as a judge. IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH HIM BEING BLACK. I also didn't like Brooklyn as a judge, my opinion of her lowered because of her hosting this show. IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH HER BEING WHITE. People are allowed to like/not like regardless of race. Believe it or not. I also never really liked Santino. Michelle, however, I do like.
@acoupleanutcases
@acoupleanutcases 3 жыл бұрын
@@Barec76 Liking and disliking a persona on TV is completely subjective, and fine. However the prominent attitude in regard to JBC is that it is somehow objective, rationale and inarguably true that he is ignorant and hateful. I can respect a personal opinion. What I do not respect is the statements being thrown around that he is the ~worst~ judge ever, objectively, because he’s disrespectful and uncultured. THAT smacks of racism. I believe that a person can have taste preferences without it being informed by racism (necessarily; it is always hard to say with unconscious bias- it’s literally something one is not aware of, and the only way to identify it is to be willing and open to examining one’s own feelings and instincts and not being afraid to ask, is this coming from a place of internal racism?). However, when assertions of objectivity and/or clearly being ‘not racist’ arise, it’s always a red damn flag. No one gets to say they’re “not racist”; it’s not something you usually KNOW about yourself! Being more certain that you AREN’T racist actually puts you at higher risk of unintentional racism, because if you do not think you NEED to reflect and question of a thought or instinct is racist, you’re not going to CATCH YOURSELF when inevitable unconscious bias rears it’s head. Similarly, if you think you’re being 100% rational, you’re not going to take a minute to think, am I actually being really emotional about this and not thinking fairly? Calling out an en masse anti black sentiment propagated unintentionally in service of white supremacy is NOT the same as saying you can’t dislike/criticize a black person or you’re racist. It is drawing attention to the FACT that there is a disproportionate condemnation towards a black judge saying literally no harsher words than anything the white RPDR judges in the past have said, and it has resulted in a black man’s career being compromised while his white peers continue safely in their position, saying the same if not much more unkind and poorly delivered critiques. That. Is racism.

I agree with the statement of "everybody has their own opinion" But the issue here, is that your so called opinion is going to affect the outcome of a competition And if your judging is based around what you like and what you think is right but not around what is objectively better, then it's goign to create a lot of injustices, even for the queens, who worked their asses off to be in the competition So, I think that it is necessary to acknowledge the bad judging but always having in mind that these judges are persons and that they never deserve hate or death threats

But regular US Drag Race is the same way...that's why I'm confused. Like AS4 was clearly geared for Trinity to win and Monet snuck up on them....and in AS5 it was clearly geared for Shea to win so it's a pretty strong theme throughout the show. I just have a prob with us pointing out the clear bias on Canada's Drag Race when they're biased on the US show too LOL
@kennethrebello3971
@kennethrebello3971 4 жыл бұрын
@@elisest.george8245 I agree, US Drag Race is very rigged, but I think the main issue is that on US DR, it's mostly the producers, the people behind the scenes, that cause the scripted-ness of the show. Whereas with Canada DR it's the judges and their judging that's causing issues with the fans. (No denying that the producers on CDR may also be responsible but it's more obvious with the judges)

So much that is said gets cut for time or bc it might not make for "good tv." This was the first time for all those involved in the show from the judges to the producers to the queens, and I think they should be proud of what was accomplished. I wish people online could have a bit more patience and understanding. ❤️

I really dont agree that it has anything to do with an anti-black matter that JBC is being trashed online, maybe it is fueling the fire a bit, but it is not the entire truth imo. To me he is not being himself, hes trying way too hard to be Canadas next Rupaul (Brooklyn as well) and failing miserbly at it, making him sound disingenuine 90 % of the time! He also uses certain drag knowledge/phrases wrong, which makes him weirdly placed as a judge for a drag competition. But Brooklyn and Stacy are not so much better, they are more being themselves, but all of the judges can just be mean for the hell of it. Too much negativity without any constructive criticism gets tiresome and frustrating watching it and thats why people are hating me thinks. Not that they should! Cause making JBC quit Twitter is not the way too go! The LBGT+ community doesn't need more negativity and hate rn! It is a reality show at the end of the day and shouldn't be taken that seriously!

I've been watching Canada's Drag Race for the first time (Because I don't have cable and I didn't want to pay for it). I binged it. Loved it. And honestly... Jeffrey isn't that bad. Some things he said seemed more like a lack of drag knowledge, not maliciousness. In fact, when you see him in the work room, the biggest thing I noticed was that the queens LOVE him. After all the backlash I was expecting him to be this walking asshole, but he just isn't. Then, I realized it wasn't just because he is a black man, but he is a male-presenting masculine black man. If he were a black man in drag, I think we'd be having a different conversation. If no one believes me, rewatch the show in retrospect and you'll see he is loved by his peers and the contestants. You can criticize someone's bad take on drag, but what he experienced was just unacceptable.

Regarding JCB, the problem isn’t his critiques- it’s the fandom’s need for an excuse to be their authentic selves which is hateful. If you care so much about Ilona’s feelings then why would you turn around and be just as mean to the person who made the insult? Because they don’t care about Ilona and her feelings, they just want an opportunity to get whatever anger and frustration out on him and what better way to do that then from the stance of MORAL SUPERIORITY. “I’m not hating on you because I’M a bad person, I’m doing it because YOU’RE a bad person.” It’s what you see repeated continuously in this community, especially in the case of Tyra Sanchez. Season 2 was over A DECADE ago, and people still feel the need to express publicly that she shouldn’t have won, at times directly to her, but are surprised when she claps back and uses that clap back as justification for why they have a bias against her (cough, cough PhiPhi O’Hara). How do you expect someone to react to an ENTIRE COMMUNITY saying these things to them daily? No one addresses that because they don’t care to, these queens represent dolls for them to play with and project their feelings on when they feel good and punching bags when they don’t. Once again, it’s the majority using a marginalized group as their play things under the guise of patronage and fandom.

I think his awareness of everything you're saying is what got him. He was a little bit nervous and overly aware for the first few episodes and that was all it took for Anastasia and Drizella to want to rip him to shreds.

Talking about judging, I feel like the best case of judging on a drag race show is drag race Thailand, having Art Arya be the “ru” and Pangina Heals bring the “Michelle” is a good dynamic with them having good jokes but also good and valid critiques during the runways

It really has nothing to do with the color of your skin. Jeffery is just not doing a good job being a judge for this season.
