That great sounding, controllable “chorus” is actually a “detune”

I think you can also experiment with the control switcher (I'm not sure if the name is correct) to manipulate the knobs, for example you let the level knob automatically increase and decrease. You can use the FM9 a little bit as a synthesizer. But I would not do too much, because it should sound like a guitar and not like a synthesizer.

Even in the AxeFx II the pitch block is amazing. The best chorus stereo double tracked type sound comes from the pitch block not the chorus block as most would think before getting familiar with the fractal machine

I was wondering why my preset dropped in volume when I turned on the pitch block…I assumed the level control was for the whole preset…Thanks for clarification on that….Still learning all the little tricks of this thing….I use Detune on just about everything..

If you're using this for drop tuning your guitar, you're going to hear that detune effect. You're looking to use this for a live application I would highly suggest the DigiTech drop. Thier algorithm is better, no noticeable detune effect when dropping your tunings.

Some good info but your going to have to fix that broken headstock..lol Always loved the EVH detuned tones.

Another amazing video! Thanks man! Please, could you tell me if with this pitch block I can get that effect that the "POG" pedal causes in worship, like solos with an octave up and another down?

Yes it can! A good way would be to use the dual diatonic mode and move it to 8 and -8 or dual chromatic mode and 12 and -12 respectively. This is a good idea for a video though. Be on the lookout for it in a bit!

Nice video and some sweet tones you got going! Long time Ultra user here looking to get one of the new FMs but not sure which. Have you used the detune function on the FM3 to drop tones? Curious how the FM3 detune block compares to the AX3. Nice playing and sweet setup!

Thanks! I believe with f.w. 5 for FM3- the pitch block should be all caught up with the axe pitch block!

Is the FM3/9 still using the old pitch algorithm instead up the updated one the III uses?

As of FW 4 the FM3 is caught up with the AXE. Not sure about the FM9 but I would tend to think so.

@@mathew_dale it caught up on amp modelling, I think the full Axe FX still has a faster more advanced pitch algorithm which they still haven't ported to the FM units yet. But even if it's not the latest and greatest the FM models still have really useful pitch effects too. You can just hear the artifacting a little more when shifting full chords several steps.
