In this video, Refined K-9 owner Theophainia Brassard and her German Shepherd Omen will take you through the steps of teaching your dog the "Place" command! We love teaching this to our clients because it's a great tool to exercise your dog in being calm. Also how to stay in one position for short and eventually long periods of time. T I P !! - Remember that the treats listed above are made with meat products so be sure to keep refrigerated. Some rolls do not need to be chilled before opening, but we recommend you do so because chilling them helps them hold their shape. If you have a treat that crumbles, your dog will spend too much time trying to pick the bits off the floor and this can take away from the engagement.

My pup doesn't seem to understand free. He is always quick to offer a full down and getting him lured onto the mat is easy, but he has no concept of being released.

Hi, loved this video and how you started the training without the dog and then showed us with. How long would you recommend to spend training. Just 10 minutes a day or perhaps 10 minutes a few times a day for example?

We use a towel but its her towel and it only comes out when training place dont leave it lying around all the time, so when it comes out your dog knows this is time to place

This lets them be calm whilst also still being part of what’s going on. Once your dog has a good place it can be used anywhere, at cafes, other peoples houses etc

Great training video. Once the pet learns to respond to place command, is it possible to teach the pet to stay in that place position for 30 mins or an hour ?

Yes, once it’s taught, a dog is expected to stay until you give them the release command.

Yes with lots of time and work put in your dog should only come out of the place when you tell them
