I love how "thus sayeth the lord" is put right after Ramses says "I will never let your people go". It's a clever acknowledgement of the Ancient Egyptian's tradition of deifying Pharaohs, in contrast to Moses who readily admits that he's working under a higher power and God's rule of not worshiping other gods. It's also ironic because Ramses the Great actually had a ceremony where he "ascended to Godhood" which is a ceremony that's held when a pharaoh's reign lasts thirty years. Ramses's reign lasted sixty-six years.

Actually, the Bible says the Pharaoh WAS going to let the jews go after like, I think it was the second or third plague. But then it says: "But the LORD hardened the Pharaoh's heart," so basically, God miraculously made the Pharaoh refuse to let the Jews go so he could keep doing that stuff. He was also going to give up at the 9th Plague, but the same happened. Honestly, if anyone was stubborn it was God.

First of all. Calm down. Writing in caps lock is a testimony to a lack of intelligence and a tendency to react aggressively. Both of these traits are overall negative and do very little to further this conversation. Second of all -- Where is the evidence that God created me, my mother, and my father? Also, funfact, God is also the one who created the world where innocent children die. Let that sink in.

Cody Buckler the whole movie hinges on the connection of the brothers (of course, the artwork, music and story is also important) and this song not only proves it but defines it. you can tell how much it kills the both of them to be fighting but because of his father, ramases feels he needs to keep the slaves because its been part of the "mighty dynasty" and for moses this is a task sent by god and if you disobey him then your ass is grass but you can tell how close both of them come to stopping this and giving in because of there history. in the ten commandments they don't even act like they had a bond if they didn't already tell you they were brothers you wouldn't of known

Water to blood - Hapi Frogs - Heket Lice - Geb Flies - Khepri Death of cattle - Hathor Boils and sores - Isis Hail - Nut Locusts - Seth Darkness - Ra Death of firstborn - Pharaoh himself, believed to be Ra's son Though it is believed to be Raamses II, some put the plagues and Exodus further back into history.

I wish people would look over the religious aspect of the movie to see the actual conflict between the two brothers. Ramses didn't want to let down his father's legacy, and Moses was doing what God had told him. It's incredibly sad, because they're not acting out of hatred, they're doing what they think is right. They love each other.

Natalie Orozco and you know something I don't think Rameses charged after the Hebrews because they left he went after them because he feels like it was all their fault that everything that he had was gone what did he have left his parents was dead his son was dead and he felt that they are the reason his brother turns on him all he had left was Moses and I believe his love for his brother became a dangerous in the end. His whole attitude became if I can't have Moses no one will and he told his soldiers to kill them all. I guess that includes Moses

@@nyarlepheotep7666 Can a "benevolent" be pissed off? I don't think so, because last I check, a benevolent being is kind, forgiving, and empathetic. A being who can be "pissed off" is a being who has rage, a quality which a benevolent being is devoid of. Remember that you call your God omnibenevolent, which means, under any circumstances, he should never be "pissed off". If you want to argue that he is punishing you for your misdeed, then why torture that person for eternity in hell? Is your God even allowing the "sinners" to change? I don't think so. To me, your God is treating his followers as his plaything rather than a child, and you all are afraid of this "benevolent" being (which is funny because if you find someone benevolent, why are you afraid of it). Lastly, isn't wrath a sin in Christianity? Looks like your God is not doing what he says.

@cooool74
@cooool74 10 жыл бұрын
Siobhan Pauro So Moses returned home to make Ramses release the Jewish slaves. He refused to and thought that Moses' god was ridiculous and that the Egyptian gods would protect him. So with each plague Moses' sent he asked for Ramses to release his people. Each time Ramses said no another plague would come worse than the last. The 10th plague being the death of firstborns which finally forced Ramses to agree. The plagues were God saying through Moses, "You will let my people go if you don't want everything to be destroyed." Ramses being very stubborn blew God off. Which is never a good idea. (Of course this is all from a religious perspective) That is why the lyrics "I send my scourge, I send my sword" are repeated twice because it is Divine punishment. "Thus saith the Lord" is said very often because God was commanding this to be done. If you watch this scene in the actual movie you can see all the emotions they are both going through really well. One of the strongest scenes in the movie in my opinion. Moses' chagrined really comes through and anger at his brother. As well as Ramses' refusal to allow Moses to win.

The Coda Kid Sounds pretty cruel, but I would think that if this really did happen, God would have allowed it only to prove a point (which was also mentioned in the song) that sometimes the innocent will suffer due to the selfishness/pride/stubbornness of others (especially of those in power), which is something that still happens today. Kinda reminds me of the government, lol.

As contradictory as this sounds, I'm an Agnostic who loves religion. I think it's a wonderful thing tto believe in, and is great to have as support. Just because I personally don't believe in God doesn't mean He doesn't exist, and doesn't mean the religious are "idiots" or are even wrong. This is one of my absolute favorite movies. No matter your religion or lackthereof, I think we can all agree that this movie is amazing and that the music is breath-takingly beautiful.

Grim Knight i didn't say this didn't happen in the bible. but do you know how the bible describes this scene? "moses went to pharaoh, and said "let my people go" and pharaoh refused, so moses grabbed some dust from the floor and tossed it in the air. "god's wrath shall fall upon thee", and there was a plague of locusts for (X amount of time)." whooo, scary. as opposed to "i send the locusts on the wing, such as the world has never seen, on every leaf and every stalk until there's _nothing left of green!_" the bible isn't scary. it's dry and poorly written.
@Mailed-Knight
@Mailed-Knight 7 жыл бұрын
Wasn't it "wind" not wing. So there maybe that little bit may not scary, it's hardly poorly written the Bible is anything but. As I said before there is much more frighting imagery than "I send the locusts on the wing/d". It is still very cool though.
@Yal_Rathol
@Yal_Rathol 7 жыл бұрын
Grim Knight it's "on the wing", meaning flying towards a target. "on the wind" works as well, it just implies that a storm is blowing the locusts in, rather than them flying in under their own power. and i've read the bible. the imagery is only good in a few spots, most of them in revelations. the rest of it is dry, bland and uninterestingly described.

"Once I called you brother." "You who I once called brother." Honestly, I love that this song has this. Because in most depiction of this story, people may forget that Moses and the Pharaoh were once brothers at a time. They were raised and they grew up together. This song reminds that audience that it isn't two random people pitted up against each other, Moses and the Pharaoh were brothers. It is brother vs brother. And because of this fact that makes this song so much more bitter.

Ahhh, this song is so incredible! “Then let my heart be hardened, no matter how high the price may grow, this will still be so, I will never let your people go!” The eternal struggle of man’s defiance against the will of God, the stubbornness and anger as we slide further in the results of our rebellion, and yet we persist in destroying ourselves even when offered a chance for mercy. This is probably Dreamworks’ best picture.

An interesting point: In the biblical story, pharaoh attempted to let go of the Israelites several times, but each time God purposefully hardened his heart, because he wanted to punish the Egyptians more. After Ramses says his line here that you quoted, the choir chimes in and says "this saith the lord" indicating that despite what we are seeing, these aren't really Ramses' words. These are the words of God, spoken through Ramses as he hardened his heart to stand against the plagues, as he did in the biblical version.

Crazy the amount of emotion this movie still carries...

Religious or not, just think of this as a movie for a second. This is a God who has warned a man who treats his slaves, God's people, like crap, MULTIPLE times. And this has been happening for who-knows-how-long. Ramses' father even murdered babies when he heard that the slaves were talking of their God having created a liberator. So, Ramses has the gaul to say God is weak, and his many 'gods' can prevail. God uses his power to show the Egyptians that He not only proved was stronger than their false deities, but also looked down on the slaves. Whether you believe it or not, while God is the protagonist with questionable actions, He is just showing Egypt the other part of their relationship with the slaves.

Oldangr Yes, but, mind you, this was before Christianity and Judaism existed as recognised religions. Back then, it was just this is your god, these are mine. It was just monotheism and polytheism for them. And the Egyptian gods weren't really kind beings. So, keeping that in mind, put yourself in that God's sandals. Diplomacy had failed, and Rameses had made it quite clear that love and kindness weren't going to sway his decision. In the words of Pharaoh, his heart was hardened. So, God had to put this choice into actions that would get through this puny man's thick skull, resulting in the plagues. You also have to keep in mind that the mindset of Hammurabi was the ruling of the time. Ever read those rules of his? An eye for an eye was one of the kindest rules on there. Get it now? There really wasn't any choice in the matter. Rameses was being bullheaded, and therefore he was taught a lesson. But don't take my word for it. It is just a movie, after all.

These kinds of stories are the ones that last. Such a powerful conflict, with no side being "evil". Moses wanted his people's freedom from Egyptian rule, following a newfound hebrew god's words. On the other side, Ramses carried the weight of a legacy that spanned millenia and knew that allowing such a tribal divide would weaken his empire, and that other tribes would try to follow suit. An empire of gods vs a god of empires.

@STCooper1

Zoya Duchene The Salvation Plan of God is basically that because all humans sin, and because God loves all humans, He sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to die for our sins on the cross, which He did, was buried, and then rose from the grave on the third day, that whoever would sincerely believe by heart and confess this by mouth, that He is the Son of God and that He has done all this would be eternally forgiven their sins and saved from Eternity in the Lake of Fire to instead spend it with God. If you have done this, and accepted Jesus as Savior, then you will, if you haven't, you will spend all Eternity separated from God in the Lake of Fire, paying your sin debt yourself for refusing to let Christ's perfect sacrifice pay it for you.

I sensed a few spirits at my last moving location and had strange small experiences.

The whole first part of this song is so well done. The way the choir builds with the orchestra backing it up, it's almost like you can feel God's wrath building and building till it breaks in the chorus. And right at the end, I really love the way the voice actor said the last "my". The full lyric for Moses there would be "Thus saith the Lord: let My people go" so it's Moses giving a direct command from God, and it sounds a lot more forceful than the other times he said "let my people go." I just find the way this song was done very cool.

Using that, we can see if what we're being told is in line with what we know about God. Just as important, the Spirit of God allows us to discern the truth by testing every thought. Dear (no pun intended, as you'll see in a moment) Lord, this film is even better than I remembered as a kid! Nonbeliever or not, every time "Thus saith the Lord" gets said in this song, I get chills. Also, adding to the "Dreamworks, not Disney" conversation; yeah, there's this thing in business called risky ventures, and something like this is inherently controversial due to the subject matter is risky. When this film was released, Dreamworks was a very new company and a new brand, whereas Disney had been around for the better part of the 20th century already and had a name and a reputation to keep, thus making it more profitable to stick to the safer Disney fare. Basically, by having nothing to lose and everything to gain from a riskier breakout hit, Dreamworks had the balls to make this film.

juan valdez He works in mysterious ways. But the way i see this is as a allegory of global warming, and Moses had previous knowledge of its coming so he used it as a threat to free his people. Either way, he had no control over the events to come, and sadly watched the Egyptian empire come to a practical halt. Realise how after Ramses II egypt hadnt done anything notable?
@STCooper1
@STCooper1 7 жыл бұрын
@Pueterokos No, Moses knew what God told Him, this is how God freed His people, not global warming. In case you don't know the truth of God, and His Salvation Plan, and/or haven't been saved, here it is so you may- God is very real and a three-fold God, the Holy Trinity(God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit). After Creation was made by God, humans were originally innocent of sin, but after the first two, Adam and Eve, sinned against God, with Adam bringing the curse of sin on the human race by doing so deliberately and allowing Eve to be tricked into sinning against God by Satan, God the Father sent His Son, Jesus Christ(God the Son), to fulfill all His prophecies about the coming Messiah(who would be humankind's redeemer of sin) revealed in the Old Testament that had to be fulfilled on Jesus' first trip here and to die as the perfect sacrifice for humanity's sins for all time, which Jesus did by living a completely sinless life in prayer and service to the Father(before this, animals were sacrificed continually to get man used to the idea of the perfect sacrifice that Jesus would be, but these sacrifices were imperfect and couldn't cleanse away sin, yet God would forgive them their sins for their obedience to Him in making those sacrifices because He considers obedience even better than a sacrifice), and three days after His sacrifice, Jesus rose from the grave resurrected in a glorified body(a body free of any human limitations of any kind) as a sign from the Father that His sacrifice had been accepted on our behalf. The sins(all but blasphemy against the Holy Spirit(God the Holy Spirit) ) of all humanity, both back then and today, were paid for Eternally with His sacrifice so that we could be both made alive spiritually(lost people are spiritually dead because their sins aren't forgiven yet, and are as sure for Hell or the Lake of Fire, one, as if they were already there) and reborn(spiritually) into the family of God through being baptized with the Holy Spirit by accepting Jesus Christ as our personal Lord and Savior, which we do by sincerely believing in Him to be the Son of God who died for our sins(with this His perfect sacrifice as payment for our sin debt to God on our behalf), that He was buried, and that He rose from the grave, with this coming after realizing you're a sinner in need of Eternal Salvation to avoid eternal damnation. You must believe all this in your heart and confess it by mouth. Doing so, we are born again into the family of God and will dwell with Him in Eternity. This is the only way you can go to Heaven, and all it takes to be there. Plain and simple. If you have never heard this, the Salvation Plan of God, before, you have now, and will at some point make one or the other of two choices; Accept Christ as your Lord and Savior for the reasons I've already said when called on by the Holy Spirit to get saved, or reject Him. I really do want for you to be with me, my brethren, and God in Eternity, and implore you to make the correct choice and accept Christ when the time comes that you're called. If you do accept Christ, and follow His Will for your life, the world will persecute you at some point for standing for Him. It won't always be an easy life while your still in this world, but the rewards in Eternity and being with God will more than make it worth it in this life. When Jesus rose from the grave in His glorified body, He made Himself known to His remaining disciples and, before returning to Heaven, said He would go now to prepare a place for those who accept Him to stay in Heaven with Him, and when you die(if you get saved before that) you will be rewarded in accordance with how well you served to Him in this life. There is even more than this to come after, but we can talk about that in future messages if you want to reply. Regarding Eternity with God though, its really as simple as what I've written in this message. If you have any questions, I'll be glad to answer them if you reply. However, I'll not argue the truth of Scripture with you, and If you reply denying the truth of what I've said or contradicting it, I'll ignore you.

This song is literally so sad "Once I called you brother. Once I thought the chance to make you laugh was all I ever wanted. And even now I wish that god had chose another serving as your foe on his behalf is the last thing that it wanted!" Shows that he still loves his brother even though they must be enemies."this was my home! All this pain and devastation how it tortures me inside!" Imagine having to watch the distruction of your childhood home and memories. "You who I called brother! How could you have come to hate me so?! Is this what you wanted?" This shows that the other brother feels betrayed. He wonders if moses ever really thought of him as a bother" I'm pretty sure that the rest of his family had died with moses(his brother) being the last alive loved one to him. He must feel so lonely which is why the last thing he wants to do is fulfill what his father wanted him to.

Holy crap I love this song. It's so epic. And to the people that say "This is why I don't believe in God. He's so mean." Are you serious? He warned the pharaoh and the people like a thousand times. AND when he took the first borns, he did it PAINLESSLY. I'm sure they're happier up in heaven than in such a harsh land. Also, He didn't do it cause He's "mean". And if you don't believe in it, why comment on it? Doesn't matter to you, right? The Pharaoh did WAY worse than what God did.

God never created His followers to do bad things my friend. That is the Devil's work. He calls for people to follow the him on the wrong path and those without faith answer his call. I, personally, have always considered this song as the climax in the film. I recognize that that doesn't line up with typically storytelling. But the clear division, stubbornness, sorrow, and absolute banger that is this musical number...it's all downfall from here.( I, and surely many others, have always appreciated the humanity and familial aspects that the film executes in a religious/historical story. This song says so much more moral struggle than veggie tales)
