I got ya beat. I remember, like it was yesterday, sitting in the back seat of my parents' car when I was 12 and the Platters' new song 'My Prayer' came on the car radio. 1956. None of us knew the name Tony Williams, just the Platters, but he deserved the same recognition any soloist got. He WAS the Platters. He had the greatest pop/R&B voice of that entire precious vocal group era.. I ran into an older Williams in the men's room of a concert in Brooklyn in the early 1980's. He could hardly sing anymore. But there he was, the great Tony Williams, taking a leak in the urinal next to mine, and he was drunk. Saddens me to this day! But I'm happy the Platters were so successful and that Williams got to shine. I wouldn't trade being young and growing up in those musical times for anything else.

The wondrous and delightful voice of Tony William of The Platters, showers unassailable memories of the the mid 1950’s to the present era of the 2022’s that refuses to be erased from my minds. It remains an unforgettable beacon that doesn’t fade away through the test of times. I particularly dedicate their songs to those who lived in the era of the Original Platters and to relive and listen to their wonderful repertoire of songs they belted out in those years. Gone are the days but never forgotten.

His voice makes me nostalgic for a time I never lived in. This old soul of mine is in the wrong era. I hope when I die, heaven is living out the dreams you had in life but could never have. One of mine has always been to see all these past great singers at their peak in one place. A concert for the ages. A concert that lasts forever.

Great post. Always loved the Platters. Each of the original group a singles singer in their own right. Tony Williams of course with possibly the most appealing and most recognised male pop voice of all time. Herb Reed the one who most kept that original sound alive. Never ever be another group to match them. RIP each of you. You will always be remembered.
