Todoing Family - Caravan Road Trip Australia

Күн бұрын

We've taken Australian's Longest Shortcut to get across to Queensland from the Northern Territory. It's known as the Outback Way, taking us from Alice Springs through to Boulia and on to Winton. We pass through Gemtree, Harts Range, Jervois Station and Tobermorey on rough outback roads full of dust, rocks and plenty of adventure.

I did the Plenty in October '98 in a Falcon from the Alice end to Boulia. Blew out both rear shocks, ripped the exhaust off and broke down at Tobermoray station. A lovely trip that I would've missed/chickened out on if I had've known what I was in for. The wheel tracks were about 250-300mm deep as it was mostly only used by trucks and I was side to side all over the "Road", trying to miss the high-spots and the rocks but of course resistance was futile. Would be easily one of the most amazing road trips ever. I didn't think I was gonna make it in one piece. The car never looked at me the same again. At the time I dreamed of a run like yours but now I really cherish my ordeal. If I could, I'd do it again in a flash. Thanks so much for the post. R.I.P. Falcon.

There nothing like an adventure. Best thing for a family is prospecting and checking out the stars. I love your videos. Its making the family tight. My father drank and hit out. He would not even go fishing with me. Now doing up a old van. See you on the road soon. Russell

Wish there were more videos done like this. No fancy attempts at editing and a nice balance of the road trip and camping with some family stuff thrown in to give it atmosphere. Keep up the good work. Interesting and informative

Yes this video brought back memories we did all these outback tracks in 1968.We were in a 66 Landrover towing a 18ft Coronet van our son was 2 years old and we had a bun in the oven.I was a carpenter so we worked our way around Aus.Back then it was real outback you would be lucky to see 2 or 3 cars a day.

We drove the Plenty Highway from east to west and return in June 2018. The return trip was way rougher due to 15mm rain between Jervois & Tobermorey. That and the increase in traffic after the Finke River Race in Alice Springs made the road quite interesting. We drive a BT 50 dual cab a towing a Lifestyle Reconn Hybrid Camper. It was a great way to go for a change. Being gravel it will vary a lot with inevitable peppering and stones flying. Touch wood I have only ever had a repairable windscreen small star crack that occcurred on perfect bitumen highway. All in all we loved it. Met some great people along the way from Winton to Uluru & back.

Excellent video, thoroughly enjoyed it. Did the exactsame route in 1988, was a little rougher then, no bitumen between towns that I recall, but still OK in dry weather. Thanks very much for sharing.

nice guys, i did the plenty in July they were just finishing that new section, the road was not as rough as i thought it would be, i reckon the gibb was worse but if your willing to do dirt roads you just have to tackle what is thrown at you and enjoy.

re perspective we had people say "oh it gets worse as you get in to QLD" but we considered that a quality road compared to the NT side..... it all depends on traffic/ rain/grader etc etc

Mate, if ya a bushie, ya can fix that with some spinifex resin. Heat resin in fire until soft like putty. Apply and let cool. Sets hard as a rock.

Good luck with it all. Would not hesitate again. There are things people point out, like the wires under the van could have been better routed. But saving $K's on purchase means an extra hundred bucks well spent on after market protection puts me well in front. Great value, very happy with the quality.

I drove the Plenty highways June this year and destroyed the front of my caravan and I had rocktamers on and they got ripped and destroyed as well, and a road train coming towards me cracked my windshield and broke one of my lights on my Ute, never ever again will I go that way, 👍🍻🇦🇺

Yes it’s a very big country when you get out there and just stunning scenery, I hear people say but there’s nothing out there but to me that’s what’s so good about it the vastness and remoteness to me that’s just beautiful and yes I’ve done it, cheers Amos 👍🍻🇦🇺

@@amosbanjocaretakers3598 So very very true Amos, it's an amazing place, however the complainers have to realise that they have to open their mind before their eyes, its vastness is its beauty, what do they expect out there, . . . . theme parks ?????. A part of me always stays out there, always sad to leave it !!, Cheers

If driving safe with the van you rarely hit the speedlimit, especially on the Outback and off road tracks.

You are probably are driving on the recently completed 22 KMs of new road that were put done last year. I think it was 60 kms of bitumen from the Struart Hwy.There was about 100kms of crap road in the middle last year

Throw your rock tamers away and buy a stone stomper setup. Heaps of people have videos of rock tamers actually increasing stones being thrown up.
