If you were ever wondering how to use Kishōtenketsu, 4 act narrative structure, wonder no more! In this video I dive into detail about what Kishōtenketsu is, how it compares to the western "Three Act" structure, and why you should try Kishōtenketsu in your own work. From this you can see why so many professional mangaka incorporate this narrative structure into their manga.
Kishōtenketsu comprises of 4 major acts:
1. Ki: The story's introduction.
2. Shō: Development of the characters and main setting.
3. Ten: A twist, or complication in the setting established previously.
4. Ketsu: Conclusion. The conclusion reconciles Ten with Ki and Shō, resulting in narrative balance.
It can be tricky to figure out how to use Kishōtenketsu in your own work, but once you understand it you'll be able to see the narrative structure in all kinds of stories!

How do you know when to transition from ki to sho? In 3 act it usually done by the inciting incident.

There are also inciting incidents in some manga... Bleach, Demon Slayer, Spyxfam, Deatn Note, etc. Where in the first ep, they already got into the incident that changed their lives May I ask how did that kind of differ from western plot styles and the three act structure?

Perhaps, but I'd argue it doesn't really subtract much value from the video.

@@varflock9777, the point is that we should question the video's value if the most basic parts are so obviously incorrect, like the word itself. What else in the content is also incorrect? For people just learning about this concept, they have no idea. It's worth pointing out.

It’s not at all uncommon to pronounce Japanese with a silent “u” (assuming romanized text) at the end of a word.
