The Pogues frontman Shane MacGowan has died aged 65, after a lengthy illness.
The singer-songwriter’s hits include Christmas classic Fairytale of New York, and A Pair of Brown Eyes.
He fronted the Irish punk band until their break-up in 2014.
A statement from MacGowan's spokesperson confirmed he "died peacefully at 3.30am this morning (30 November) with his wife and sister by his side".
MacGowan had recently been hospitalised after being diagnosed with encephalitis, and also had well-documented problems with drugs and alcohol.

Very sad to hear the news that Shane McGowan has died. He was a lyrical genius …with songs about chancers, drinkers, lovers, poets and scoundrels. He invented a new style of music that combined punk attitude with traditional Irish rhythms. RIP.

The first time I saw him and The Pogues I was 23 in London, Uk, 1985. It would be 1 of 4 times. I was lucky to see him preform with Nick Cave in 1992, for a fundraiser. The news of his passing has gutted me.

I saw the Pogues in 1988 In Boston Shane had his song lyrics in his hand There was a blower fan behind the band as they maniacally played That made them look Like Pirates And Shane the captain of the ship Thousands are sailing was fantastic ... Excellent timing. He should finally get the Christmas #1 spot he so coveted. Failed to make the top spot back in 1987 due to the genius of the Pet Shop Boys with 'Always On My Mind'. I never thought he'd outlive McColl though.
