In this intimate portrait of destiny, passion, and loss, Irina Markova, a solitary Russian poodle trainer, reveals her transcendent relationship with her dogs, the childhood tragedy that sparked a lifetime of working with animals, and the welcome isolation behind the red velvet curtains of the circus.
thepoodletrainer.com
Multi festival favorite, the Poodle Trainer received a special Jury award from AFI/Silverdocs, "for a film that packs humor and tragedy into a subtle and perfectly paced 7 minutes."

What her mom did really scarred her until today. At a young age, bonding over a new puppy and have it mercilessly sold because it didn't automatically behave as the mom expected is so traumatic to her.

I know... I have a toy poodle who is 11 years old now. I love him SO fricken much!!! I don't how I will ever get over losing him. It's making me tear up now just writing about it. Geez. Lol People always say the best thing to do to get over your dog dying is to get a puppy. It seems wrong at first, like your trying to replace him but it's really the best and only thing positive that you can do for yourself if you're hurting. It's not to forget or replace him, but to move on from the pain of losing him. How are you doing now?

She's wonderful and the dogs are exceptional. Her link and work with them divine. But she is obsessed - sadly, very sadly obsessed - and needs serious psychological help to work through her trauma and fears. Vance Malone has captured her torment and let us all peek into her carefully protected and colorful life.
@Lordkeggles

Deborah McLaren - Well if you think she needs psychological help, I think the whole world does. I haven’t seen so much love and devotion to animals in my life as she gives them. She’s Russian or Ukrainian and I’m guessing she’s about 65. She’s had a hard life and these dogs are her life. I own a toy poodle and I’d die without her. She needs to make a living and they all chip in. More than I can say for the ME GENERATION who couldn’t give a shit about anything bar their iPhones…! They are the ones that need a psychiatrist not her. She’s just being human, something 90% of the worlds population now lacks.

My very first dog died at 4 years old but before she had pups and she had them for like 2 months after he had to sell all 5 .... The way my dog died was that she sacrificed her life for mine .... I was heartbroken .... So then I decided that one of her pups owner was abusing the pup so I ask my parents if she could return that pup and now the pup (which I named Lua) is now 5 years old .. And I hope she could live long ... (Since I was so small back then I named my dog that died Minnie...)

+superstubes Dogs that have jobs are better cared for and more emotionally fulfilled than most family dogs that just stay at home and are alone while people work their jobs, go to school, and live their lives outside of the home. I know that the circus industry is riddled with abuse, but by the way the dogs responded to this woman I don't think that's the case.

@ExpandMyLife
@ExpandMyLife 7 жыл бұрын
I have a poodle who has not been trained and had never been asked to get up on her back legs she does it automatically, often spinning in circles or waving her two front paws at the same time. She can stand on her back legs for a very long time just like a meerkat. She looks like a meerkat when she leaves her front paws relaxed and in downward position. When she does this, my daughter has started calling out kangaroo it might turn out to be a trick after all :)

Oh shush! You've obviously never been around a poodle before. I've had them all my life and they all walk on their hind legs, without being trained even. Especially toy poodles. They are very intelligent, easy to train, and I might even argue that they need the mental stimulation of learning numerous tricks to stay happy. Those dogs are probably in poodle heaven performing. I actually have to be careful about when I laugh at the things mine does, because if she gets a positive reaction from me, she will keep doing the behavior.
