In my opinion, the sparrows who had a loving bond with the grandmother was been broken because everyday grandmother came and give th food to the sparrows. As, the grandmother wasn't there today but the author's mother gave food, the sparrows refused to eat food. -⟩ Moral of the story :- Even animals and birds have a loving nature in them as like humans have.

In afternoon the grandmother would feed the sparrows .sparrows used to came and perch on her legs, shoulders ,and even on her head .she smiled but never showed they away. On her dealth,they also mourned.they took no notice of the bread thrown to them.

it was the daily routine of grandmother to feed the sparrows pieces of bread. But, due to the death of the grandmother, the sparrows stayed silent and didnt eat the pieces of the bread because they were paying their respects towards the grandmother. Also, They were not familiar with the mother of Khushwant Singh feeding them bread , Hence they did not want to be fed by the mother

Khushwant Singh's grandmother is an old woman with a wrinkled face and a toothless mouth. She wears a white cotton sari with a border, which she keeps tucked over her head and ears .
