1992 BBC Documentary about the world land speed record. Interviews with Richard Noble, Craig Breedlove, Stan Barrett and covering a lot of LSR history, before ThrustSSC was dreamt up and took the record supersonic.

I think I read somewhere that THRUST 2 was just a couple miles per hour off of becoming airborne when he broke the record. Ya got to give it to these Brave, Brave creators of going for all the marbles Everytime they got in them things. Personally, I think the SPEED DEMON is the most beautiful LSR car ever built. And it sure has the right driver with George Poteet. What a Legend.

They don't make documentaries like this anymore... thanks a million for the upload. The narration was fantastic as well!

Biased? One of the things you'll always in a British documentary about...anything is that they are superior to begin with. Hence Breedloves "unofficial" car 20:37...which the regulating officials gave the over 400 record.

@@fourutubez7294 and I agree...but the whole 3 wheel, four wheel thing should be evaluated car by car. Just having dual wheels on the front to qualify is silly .

1,014.656 km/h (630.388 mi/h) kilometer absolute world land speed record by The Blue Flame in 1970 - not broken until 1997. The slower mile record reported here was exceeded by Richard Noble in 1983. If you want to see the first over 1,000 km/ watch SPEEDQUEST - THE BLUE FLAME!

Great film, thankfully devoid of all the fluff and cruft that is appended to this type of film making these days...

The Salt Flats feature so many unusual/unique vehicles, its worth going just to see so many iterations of the "car." Speed is akin to the breath of life and at least as addictive. lol I had opportunity to get a ride in a F-16, back when I was in the military, working as an air traffic controller. A Navy Lt. Colonel gave me that ride after I talked a student pilot into a safe landing, whose instructor had had a heart attack and died during that morning's training flight and the conditions had turned from VFR to IFR. Big time thrill when the pilot of the F-16 hit his after-burners on an unrestricted climb maneuver. Unforgettable, that kind of speed. And we never did break the sound barrier. Darn! That has been a dream of mine since a young boy in the early 60s.

A lot of loose shots there: when implying Craig Breedlove went into the brine ditch on his first record, it was his third, after Tom Green in _Wingfoot Express,_ at 413mph, beat his first, and then Art Arfons in _Green Monster_ upped this to 434mph. Breedlove then took the record back at 468mph, but it was when breaking his own record at 528mph when he had the accident. And he broke 500mph first in his original car, not _Sonic-1._ Then they freely mix up Malcolm Campbell's cars.

Yes, and they never mentioned Mickey Thompson's Challenger either. I was 14 at the time and he was big news because HE was the 1st to go over 400 mph but he never made a 2nd run. It was AFTER Thompson that Breedlove appeared and easily went over 400 x 2 in a jet car. Lots of great videos & photos but the editing & narration leave a lot to be desired.
