It is human nature to be curious, to seek a sense of oneself and to identify with ones surroundings. Most people live in the built environment where we have chosen to make the places that we inhabit. Joy Nazzari talks about the need to go beyond placemaking and create places with purpose. Joy has a natural curiosity for places and place identity. Born in Rio and educated in San Francisco, she has called London her home for 20 years and compulsively travels at every opportunity. Joy is the founder of dn&co, a brand consultancy inspired by culture and place, and the team behind the reinvention of some of London’s most remarkable areas - St James’s, Broadgate, Television Centre, and Ilford Town. Joy has collaborated with government, architects, developers and businesses to create meaningful destinations in workplaces, residential, retail, restaurants - through to entire neighbourhoods and towns. Last year Joy co-founded Place Press, an independent publisher that explores the intersection between people, places and culture. Her recent book, Know Your Place, talks about the need to go beyond placemaking and create places with purpose. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

Collaboration needs to be with skilled people otherwise it lowers the bar and creates a greater burden of work, revision and correction for those committed people moving the process forward.

What a poor woman. Nothing in her speech about people needs is revealing. But also It feels like She treats people as a sheeps or kind of beasts which she you or we need to control like a flock of ram... Thats really sad Peace for all and all the best for those who are still thinking people.

What if said control benefits them without them doing anything for this benefit? And aren't people's needs relatively simple anyway? Why repeat that, I think she is talking about a system that works or might work for her, a system which may lead to these needs being met. And people are a kind of sheep. We love to follow a vast array of emotional stimuli, often unknowingly :)

I don't care for cities or marketing manipulation, sorry. Most cities are a sad necessity; crowded, ruined space. Maybe she can figure out how to fix that and integrate nature more. I'm sure that would help stress levels. But some people like cities, so whatever.
