I wouldn't have believed it unless I had lived through it. I personally have experienced tremendous outcomes with mediation. I had tachycardia 130s to 150s when walking from my bedroom to the kitchen (laying down 85 to 100). I watched one of your videos when you were talking about the Gupta program and tried the alternate nostril breathing technique and within ten minutes my heartrate went down into the seventies. I thought to myself their must be something to this. I have since been doing two twenty minute meditations a day for over two months and most days now my heartrate will stay below 120. I went from laying on the couch most of the day to having the energy to walk to see my son perform at his band competition last night (a half mile walk to the stadium and back). Thank you for your videos and continued research! I will definitely try out this app!

Gez and Asad you described so well the mental process that ties within long recovery with this illness. The most difficult thing for me during these 9months with long covid has been to accept what is happening. It truly is highly traumatizing to live months after months with debilitating symptoms. I used to be a climber and an active person also through my work as a physiotherapist. Not until recently I have been able to join my friends when they climb outside. I sit, watch them and drink tea. It gives me the feeling of sharing the experience together although I can't be an active participant. Those moments give strength to survive one day at a time. When I feel deeply sad with my symptoms, I recall that hey there is many of us active people in the same boat at the moment. This video shows very well the benefits of breathing for easing long covid symptoms. I have also got ease on my symptoms from regular breathing exercises, meditation and yin yoga. Those have helped me to sleep better and manage mentally. Calming breathing has also helped with tachycardia. Thank you Gez, this was again a great video! I wish all good and strength on our long covid recovery processes. There is always hope for the better ❤️ and greetings from Finland 😊

So beautifully articulated, Kehon - and I think many of us share that experience of having the privilege of being very active and feeling relatively very healthy prior to long-Covid and feeling significant loss and trauma in re-orienting to an unpredictable and challenging experience of illness (while still in the midst of a global pandemic, no less!). I also wanted to share hope - at the almost 19 month mark - that ongoing recovery is absolutely still possible. I am doing MUCH better now than I was at 6 months, 9 months - and though there can still be flares and recovery has been characterized by a lot of ups, downs, 'regressions,' and many, many affiliated emotions (including grief, anxiety, fear, discouragement, despair and a PTSD-like-quality for me, personally, at stages and times) - I do feel more hope than ever in the body's ability to continue to nurture healing and wellbeing. Like you've identified, I think the kinds of tools you're mentioning (yin yoga, meditation) and the breath work featured in this video are hugely powerful Wishing you more acceptance, peace, and healing.

Wim Hof breathing + cold baths + meditation have been helping my parasympathetic-dominant dysautonomia symptoms more than any supplements or meds I have tried! Thank you, Gez, for yet another helpful video and for sharing your personal story and being vulnerable. Yes, there’s grief about all the things that are currently not possible and the things that usually helped to destress being taken away(cycling, running, hiking, swimming, socialising). But there’s hope! Five months into my journey I am able to go for short walks again and will look into breathwork for sure. There’s so much personal growth, too, I fully agree. I cling on to that something really good will come out of this difficult time. This is encouraging. Thank you!

Wow, I'm so happy to have found this video, and your channel here in Canada. I look forward to going through your other videos. Thank you for creating this community for people who have long covid. I am a little over 6 months into my recovery at this point and this video really hits the nail on the head when addressing the grief of letting go of who you used to be. Letting go of being a busy massage therapist, an avid hiker, and runner, the care giver as opposed to the one needing help, has been harder for me than any of the physical symptoms, unpleasant as they may be. The isolation and feeling like you are the only one going through this is also challenging. So it's comforting to hear other people's stories in the video as well as read them in the comments. Thanks again, wishing everyone the best in their recovery! 😊

Thank-you all for this brilliant talk and leaving us with something we can do to help and calm ourselves. I am 18 months long covid and no real recovery yet. I listened intently when Dr Asad shared the range of emotions he has been through which normalised my response to going from fit, active, working in NHS to house bound and needing a wheelchair. We do grieve our old lives and at times I have felt it would have been better to have died, seeing the impact on those close to me and having to care for me now. Yet acknowledging and accepting my situation really helps. Thank-you for being a lifeline for us Gez especially and thanks too to Asad, your brother joined at the hip from birth.

I really appreciated how he explained the smoothness of the breathing, like in between 3 and 8. That works for me. I will try this during the day, when I wake up and also before bed. Mostly I hope it works when my heart is racing when I sleep and get woke up to it just racing. Thats when I feel my worst! Chest pain, stomach burn across chest, arms are weak and my head is dizzy. I will definitely try this then. Thank you so much all of you. Your kindness and the time you give to help us all is just a blessing. I wish I lived near you so I could speak to you more often! Many thanks to all 4 of you. I was very nervous about doing the fast breathing exercise because Wim Hoff for beginners made me relapse last year as did the lung function tests at the hospital a few months ago. I do simple breathing exercises for 10 mins daily and am starting to be able to bring my heart rate down. It was brilliant for calming me during a very long MRI too. I am really hating being this person in flight/fight/fawn/freeze mode as I was very calm and resilient pre Covid. I, like so many others, forgot to breathe on numerous occasions last year (and still do when asleep) but the growing awareness of my breathing has been invaluable. Thank you all for the positivity. I was an actor and then a teacher and always used breathwork for myself and others but I realise how I had only just scratched the surface..

best clear the dead viral debris out of your system its that whats causing all the nasty symptoms, people all over the world are drinking the miracle mineral solution it ends all post viral conditions in hours if you live in the uk the cost of the miracle is 10.53 uk pounds ,deep breathing exercises can be very very dangerous if you dont fully understand the internal world, most yoga teachers are clueless on the internal world ,when you practice deep breathing exercises you raise the chi, this is very dangerous, with the raised chi you run the risk of causing an unprepared for kundalini activation if this happens it can kill you on the spot or put you in a mental hospital for years ,if you practice any deep breathing exercises when you have finished stand still its an open eyed meditation done in an upright comfortable position stood on your feet, its the only mmeditation that can sink the chi if you sit down to sink the chi you squash the dantien and you cant sink the chi,the raised chi will sneak up on you, make you short tempered and intolerant, mean hearted kind of thing, its the raised chi taking you in the oppasite direction to where you want to be heading ,and all through not understanding the internal world,i tell you this with deep breathing exercises you can accidentally activate the kundalini ,if this happens and you actually survive the kundalini impacting on a totally unprepared nervous system you will have to survive the astral fire cleansing process of the unprepared nervous system, this is 240 volts of raw spiritual currant couseing through a 110 volt voltage nervous system, the impact can kill you or the cleansing process, you wont think much of win hofs breathing techniques if that occurs,no , i am not saying his breathing techniques are bad i am saying he isnot giving full instruction on the internal world probably because he doesnot realize he is literally playing with fire the astral fire and it can kill you, donot do deep breathing exercises without standing still you must sink the chi what the deep breathing exercises raise,or you will quickly find yourself out of balance, life will be a struggle needlessly its the raised chi, sink the chi with standing still and you quickly develop awareness happiness calmness and fearless, fear is felt in the bottom of the belly ,chi is stored in the bottom of your belly in aplace the chinese call the dantien ,its chi that controls the emotion called fear ,sink the chi and be fearless

Group Hug everyone 🤗 As a singer the importance of breath is already deeply ingrained in my psyche. So good to see people are experiencing its power and effectiveness as a therapeutic tool. For the sceptics our there, this is really about taking control of managing our condition as the health services that we would usually be reaching out to just aren't there. No blame. This wasn't really in anyone's playbook, it sure as hell wasn't in mine. The Stasis guys also mentioned that the US Army teaches breathwork to manage extreme stress, and by this I expect they mean warzones, so it has a pretty good evidence base for providing non invasive self management. 🤗🤗

this was great, thank you. Some of the theories of long covid (i.e. brain retraining, i.e. gupta program), at least as it relates to its shared mechanism with ME CFS is that PEM and fatigue could possibly be caused by a disregulated autonomic and limbic system. Some hypothesize that as a result, the immune system and inflammation output is stuck on overdrive and that these systems need to be calmed down or at least regulated. Therefore, breathwork could be a key piece in tapping into these systems that traditional medicine cannot, or at least cannot without side effects

Thanks so much for your videos Gez, they have been the most valuable resource I have come across by far for post covid issues. I know Wim hof was mentioned but then cold exposure was not discussed further. Is there a sense as to whether this could be useful (eg given potential to reduce inflammation) or would be contraindicated for this population given it temporarily stimulates sympathies NS and apparent hyperactivation of sympathetic NS / hypoactivation of parasympathetic in long covid? I’m only 8 weeks since positive test right now, but keen for anything that can help as still needing to be horizontal 3/4 day due to fatigue, with additional lightheaded ness, nausea, headaches if concentrating. I'm not a doctor, but low bicarb is said to indicate hyperventilation. But I would not rule out something else causing it as I have seen reported in a preprint article the possibility of covid infection altering the amount of an enzyme involved in converting CO2 to bicarb (carbonic anhydrase). Not any real evidence AFAIK, but it's possible. ~ But breathwork is good anyway; I like Andrew Weil's 4-7-8.

I have a question for Dr. Khan and Dez. Do you experience a rapid heart rate during sleep at night and are awaken by it? I get woke up at 2, 3, or even 4 am with my heart racing and my chest pain in center, my arms feel tingly and I can't breathe all the way in, and my stomach also is achy or just a burning across my chest under ribs. I am just laying in bed asleep and i get this. Do either of you experience this? I also get a high heart rate as I get up out of bed, then it goes back down. At time during my very seldom trips to town because of the post covid, I have experienced getting out of my car and entering a store I become light headed and then my heart is racing and u think I'm going to black out. Which at this point I get back to my car as soon as I can to get my body neck to a relaxing state. I will say that breathing works well for those times to reset my body, but during the night and when I am awakened it does not seem to work, and I lay there in pain and afraid is my heart rate ever gonna return to its normal pace, and after 15 minutes or so it starts to go down. My interest and practice have only grown since then. I do not know Richie's book but I found the books "Breath" and "Oxygen advantage" to be great tools. One point not mentioned in this video is that breathwork and cold exposure take time and energy. Both are beneficial, but doing too much will tire a person with LHC. I still do breathwork daily, but there are days that I may only do some short HRV breathing (5x5) because I do not have the energy for Wim hof or Soma-style exercises.

The fast breathing made me feel positively awful. I'm a long term fan of meditation and slow diaphragmatic breath work and my observation is that combining them with rest periods enables rest to be far more productive. Allowing for an hour of breathwork and meditation before trying to get up in the morning enables me to do so with a clearer head and fewer symptoms. I also drink a litre of water first thing and massage the bottoms of my feet. It all helps. Having said all that, for me it's been a management strategy rather than a cure. I don't find it's that helpful to get into too much psychologisation of post-viral illness. Stress of course brings down the immune system and obstructs much needed rest and repair. When there is no treatment, we have no option but to give our body the best possible opportunity to heal itself. Spending as much time as possible in a parasympathetic state can only help. That and pacing well so as not to keep retriggering symptoms mean we are giving ourselves the most hope of recuperation. My own experience is that if I don't pace properly, nothing else can help in any sustained way towards recovery.

Thank you!
