"That's the only sad thing... I wanna know what happens next." That line speaks to her entire era for me. Hinting at a brilliance in her performance we just never got because of the writing. In a way this is the saddest end of an era i've had because I wanted her to get one amazing "I'm The Doctor" moment and it just never materialized.

My feelings towards this era "The good things don't always soften the bad things, but vice-versa, the bad things don't necessarily spoil the good things and make them unimportant." This episode brings tears to my eyes. The faults don't spoil it for me.

Wouldnt it have been fun to see The Master/Doctor played by Jodie instead... doing an impression of Sacha's Master? I mean all you really had was the Master in a new body saying "I'm the Doctor now" which really wasnt convincing. It was the Master. But to have the Doctor's physical form being inhabited by the Master would have been great... or too confusing I guess. But i would have loved to see Jodie doing a Sacha impression.

Interesting take on the Master self loathing. I think it could also work as a master between Sims and Missy. Before the two Masters meet, he learns that his own people made him go crazy when he looked into the time fissure (?). Next time we see him, he meets a future self who seems to be doing better, who might be able to overcome his past. but anger over his past, maybe even anger that the Doctor could affect him to the point his future self was becoming "good" and that he never took the Doctor's offer to travel (denying himself the chance to be better sooner), made him lash out and kill his future self. Now he knows what could have been and his actions destroyed it. thus, he hates himself and wants to change his future but doesn't no how. meanwhile, he grasps at any solution and acts like he always has. I could see either before or after Missy working.

The episode always felt to me like Chibnall just wanted to end his tenure on a good note, and to extend a plea to the audience. That even if they didn't like what he did, and even though things went wrong, he was trying to give them something good and that the companions (and by extension, the fans) were the reason Doctor Who can keep going. I think he mostly succeeded in that. And besides, I'm always going to appreciate a middle finger gesture to the reactionary NMD types.

Honestly agree a lot with your sentiment of this being a fun celebration of both this era and the show. Everyone is great and I adore the fun of the cameos and Rasputin dance, as well as the emotion of Jodie's regeneration. Probably my favourite regeneration line of all time. Fits Jodie, but also really fits the nature of the show too

I just rewatched this about a week ago and my thoughts that I relayed to my friends who are fans of Doctor Who were "I decided to watch a Chibnall era episode for the second time and it's not as bad as I remembered it." I also liked the idea of a companion "support group" that we can maybe see again. I enjoyed Jodie's final scene, and I will reserve judgment on Tennant's return until the specials come out.

I'm someone who loved this era and you're absolutely right, this episode really hit hard for me, honestly the part that really got me particularly emotional is when the Doctor starts regenerating and Yaz breaks into tears and the Doctor going "It's alright Yaz" man... Jodie and Mandip's acting was absolutely perfect as the Doctor and Yaz respectively, it felt real and genuine, it didn't feel "acted" if that makes sense and that really added to the weight of it all, it's heartbreaking stuff and the scene with them on top of the TARDIS was just beautiful "A wise person once said to me: Goodbyes only hurt because what came before was so special, and it's been so special" and the regeneration itself was perfect - the emotion was perfect, the music was perfect and her final line was *perfect* and I love how 13 is sad but she's optimistic and hopeful for what comes next, which encapsulates who her Doctor is and she regenerated, accepting her fate with a smile on her face. I couldn't think of a more fitting end to this incarnation. And the episode as a whole is a fantastic celebration of this era *and* Doctor Who as a whole, it very much is a love letter to Doctor Who and you can just tell with how it's written just how much Doctor Who means to Chris Chibnall, say what you want about his writing but the man *loves* Doctor Who and this episode just shows that in spades! Brilliant! "Doctor Whoever-i'm-about-to-be Tag, you're it!"

That's really interesting. As a classic who fan, I felt the episode was targeted at people my age with nostalgia for the later incarnations of the classic era and their companions. So I loved it, but thought this might have come at the expense of fans of Chibnall/Thirteen, who would want to see more this era's plotlines resolved, or even just more focus on Thirteen. It is quite impressive that this episode rode the line and kept such diverse fans happy.

Yes, I must say I had many moments where I was critical of Chibnall's writing, although often I could see his good intentions but followed by poor execution. That said, POTD was just brilliant for all the reasons you stated and more that I wont waffle about. It was a real love letter *to* Who *for* Whovians, of all ages - a genuine balance of weaving the classic era into the the new in a way that made them feel truly connected. Given how many lists of 'first and last lines of the Doctor' are always being made I am forever thankful to the editor who persuaded Chibnall to swap Jodie's last lines, so we were left with that hopeful, yet playful and forever memorable line - not to mention the beautiful cinematography and one last hurrah from Segun's "Thirteen" - sublimely gorgeous.

Ironically the traitor Dalek was supposed to be the New Year's Day special for 2023 with the Daleks on the space train from the beginning of the ep using it to travel between different planets in a solar system but when the budget went a bit wrong it had to be replaced with Eve of The Daleks and the original NYD story was merged with the regeneration episode.

The Power of the Doctor is the only one of the Jodie Whittaker era that I've watched more than once. I've seen it multiple times and it feels like it's the end of a completely different era. It also has the distinction of featuring the most number of Doctors in entirely original roles - 1, 5, 6, 7, 8, 10, 13, 14 (or is it 10 again?) and the Fugitive Doctor. What a pity Jodie and crew were hampered by such lacklustre stories throughout her run.

Part of me wishes that there had been a wide shot with location/year text when the TARDIS landed prior to the regeneration... also I hope that the first special doesn't open with a post regeneration TARDIS crash given how the 13th Doctor is the only New Who one not to regenerate in the TARDIS (at least for the face change part).

Honestly the plan to become the Doctor likely has some sort of practical work... It's how he would regenerate again as he'd have the Doctor's previous regenerations to influence his next incarnation. But yeah it was a plan mainly made out of a man so deep in his self-loathing that he just wanted to run away and maybe even enter a fugue State like Jackson Lake did.

Some of the plot points were a bit clunky but overall, this was only 13th Doctor episode in my opinion that felt just as "magical" as Doctor Who was in the past. Doctor Who isn't just sci fi. It's fun and feels magical. Makes you feel something. This episode did it! And as someone who doesnt have high opinions of the 13th, man her regeneration scene was gorgeous! The writing, the green screen, the music, everything! Also, The Master as Rasputin was one of my favorite parts for sure. Makes perfect sense! Him dancing to Rasputin is one of my favorite scenes of the whole era. Theres a big rumor going around that the Guardians of the Edge will return for the 60th and i really hope its true because it's probably the best idea Chibnall ever had. I really really cant stand this era of Doctor Who but really appreciated this episode!

My biggest issue with this episode (that was pretty solid overall) was that the Master attacks her at the end to start the regeneration. Otherwise she would have survived it. I think it would have worked much better if she’d walked back into the TARDIS and said that the forced regeneration from earlier had started the process too much and although she’d still be the Doctor, it was unavoidable.

Thank you for the video, Vera! As you mentioned, despite this episode's flaws and the overall middling opinion over the Chris Chibnall's era, this send-off episode was very good! The previously established plot threads being left unsolved could be frustrating, but, considering how the previews to it seem too busy, it is surprising how good that episode turned out to be. An aspect that I would argue to be bad in the Chris Chibnall's era was the consistency. Some shallow characterizations of both protagonists and antagonists, especially how the morality of the actions of some of them receive too much scrutiny or none; some episode scripts resembling "first drafts"; lack of continuity or connection between plot points, even in storylines during single episodes; and yet too much exposition. Something that you also pointed out during these Take Two reviews (and I failed to notice at the time) was the moments of unnecessary cruelty. These problems are present in most of the episodes of this era. One would expect Chibnall and his writers to try improve over time, but they keep committing the same mistakes again and again. However, even as someone with casual knowledge about it, I felt like this era at least tried to honor more the original classic Doctor Who TV series, when compared to the two previous eras of the current series. My overall opinion over the Chris Chibnall's era: many undeveloped good ideas and untapped potential. And that is very unfortunate, especially for Jodie Whittaker's run as the first Time Lady Doctor.

People need to remember why Power of the Doctor was commissioned in the first place - originally there was not going to be a Autumn (Fall) 2022 special. Then the BBC, celebrating 100 years in 2022 approach Chris Chibnall and asked him to produce a feature length special which he could use to bid farewell. So this was a celebration of not just Doctor Who, but a celebration of BBC drama production.

11:35 this is exactly what I've been thinking for the last year and change about Dhawan's Master -- glad to know I'm not the only one who's seeing it that way. I still think they should have found a way for the Doctor to bring up Missy's character arc and directly acknowledge it with him, even if the only result would be getting immediately shot down, but I'm fine with the idea of this version coming after Missy because of that idea. I'd go further to say that -- on top of your interpretation here -- I think he also hates the Doctor for making him believe that he could change, and he wants to erase not just the Doctor herself but the very idea of what the Doctor represents from the universe, which goes some more way to explain why he wouldn't just take over her body as it was or pretend to be her.

the part about the pacing making the episode work reminds of of something a doccy who youtuber i love called Mr Tardis said, which was about chris chibnall seemingly more interested in the pace of a story, the feeling of going from scene to scene and building momentum. This really put into perspective a way chibnall tells stories for me, and while its not my favourite overall way to tell a story he is really good at it becuase apart from a few stories his episodes keep my attention on a first watch.

The whole thing of the O-Master (as I like to call him sometimes) coming after Missy doesn't bother me, mainly on the basis that I didn't expect Missy's redemption to ever stick across successive incarnations. It's nice that the idea of a Master being more susceptible to reforming was touched on, but I think such a storyline likely would've had a tragic conclusion whoever else would've attempted it. I really like the take about O's self-loathing; even though he looked down on Missy's attempts to reform, he still feels regret about the outcome, especially since it was Missy's predecessor that was the cause; there was a promising future and he himself wrecked it. He would rather change for the better, and perhaps in his own twisted and desperate mind, he's trying. As for the episode, I thought it was a bit of an overstuffed mess script-wise, but overall a fun romp that definitely felt like it was pulling out all the stops to be a right crowdpleaser, not just to say farewell to Jodie, but to also honour the show's past given it was made to mark the BBC's centenary.

Before watching your review, my general thoughts on this episode was that it was a great ending to an era we didn't get. I loved the way it wrapped up certain story threads, and I loved how fun it was. I just think it was wrapping up threads we never properly got. Things like the culmination of the Doctor and Yaz's journey would have been so much better with a stronger build-up in previous episodes. On some level it was like "oh, that's the story you were trying to tell, well that would have been cool to see the full journey but the ending is really nice". So for example, the way Dan leaves the Tardis because it's too dangerous, and what that shows about Yaz and her choices to stay. Which would mean so much more if we had more of who Yaz is established. I just feel like that thread could have had much more done with it over a longer period, and gotten a truly amazing character arc without any difference in the final episode. It's really interesting because I typically see great set-ups with not-so-great payoffs, I kinda enjoy my befuddlement that the pay-off was great except for how we didn't get the set-up

Watched the review now, and well, my personal taste is character arcs and emotional journeys more than the mechanics of the plot. I can tolerate a lot of ridiculousness of the plot and pretty large plot holes if they are vehicles for strong emotions and character moments. Which is why I have not clicked with Chibnall era because each episode seems too concerned with shoving more and more plot into it (Flux due to Reasons we all know, but it was the most guilty of doing this) without giving the characters enough room to breath, to establish themselves and put themselves through a journey. Also I really like the support group scene but my one problem with it is the implication that Graham was the first one to put it together. I guess I was headcanoning that most companions got in touch with each other and had some kind of support/community going on (especially the RTD era companions, and especially via Sarah Jane). Does not affect my enjoyment of that scene though because I love that it is canon. And 13s last words might be my favourite send off. So perfect.

Whenever someone complains "ugh, it's all fanservice" my response has always been "but aren't you a fan? why are you complaining about being serviced!" Also, I think I've developed a headcanon re: The SpyMaster and where he fits regarding Simms and Missy. Simms said that the weapon he used would prevent Missy from regenerating. What has The Master always done when prevented from regenerating? Hijacked the nearest source of regeneration they could find. In Missy's case, the nearest source of regeneration? Was Simms. So, Simms was suppose to regenerate into Missy, but Missy hijacked the regeneration. Meaning the combination of Missy and Simms is what created the SpyMaster. Thus the going back to his old ways so easily with only those shades of regret. Nothing else makes sense to me.

It's a pretty fun episode, no doubt about it. Sacha Dhawan is loads of fun to watch, the story is scattershot and nonsensical but largely well-paced and enjoyable, the fanservice and cameos were well utilised and made for some great emotional beats, and the action scenes were mostly well-executed and fun. On the whole though, I can't escape the feeling that while this is a pretty good episode, it doesn't feel like it really works as a conclusion to the Thirteenth Doctor's era. Not only are most of the overarching plot threads from this era not given any kind of follow-up or resolution, but the main characters themselves feel like they've been shoved to one side and forgotten about, in what's supposed to be their final (possibly ever) appearance. And I get why Dan's exit was very rushed and abrupt, between John Bishop being a very busy man and the character's largely superfluous nature, and to Chibnall's credit I could at least understand the reasoning for him leaving. The other two on the other hand felt like they'd really been given the short end of the stick when it comes to this episode. Yaz actually feels like a more active and engaging character in this episode than in any previous episode, which only makes it more disappointing that her exit amounts to the Doctor basically kicking her out of the TARDIS and leaving her to go to a group therapy session. There's no sense of closure to Yaz's ending, no sense of agency present in her departure, and it's yet another disservice given to a consistently poorly-served character. As for the Doctor, I'll admit that her actual regeneration scene was rather well-done and genuinely quite moving, but I can't get over how out-of-focus the character was for the previous 85 minutes. She gets buried amongst all the other characters cluttering up the first half up until the point where she gets effectively written out of the episode, leaving Jodie Whittaker to play a hologram for about 1/4 of her final episode (when she isn't being supplanted by Sylvester McCoy, Peter Davison or Jo Martin). And even after she gets brought back into the episode for the finale, she ends up being killed off for real in the most hilariously abrupt and anticlimactic fashion. After previous incarnations "died" in fashions that reflected their specific journeys and character arcs, having Thirteen die as a result of random happenstance was really disheartening to see, and I'm not even a big fan of the character. It's especially frustrating since there's some interesting thematic parallels relating to the Timeless Child and the energy being that the episode could've drawn on to make a more satisfying ending for Thirteen, but they just don't do anything with it. Overall, I had a lot of fun with "The Power of the Doctor", but I don't think it's a coincidence that, with the exception of the regeneration itself, virtually nothing I've seen people praise about this episode has anything to do with the actual era it's a part of. A very messy but still very enjoyable episode in isolation, but really unsatisfying as an actual conclusion to an era of the show that I'm not even that keen on

I full on SOBBED at the last 10 minutes or so when this aired. When the Doctor and Yaz were on top the TARDIS, once Jodie/The Doctor started tearing up I lost it. I had kind of stopped crying throughout the companion support group and when the Doctor left the TARDIS to regenerate I started again, and when she said, "Tag, you're it." I laughed in the middle of crying and continued grinning through my tears. This era was a mixed bag, but I still have a special relationship with it. I started watching Doctor Who on Netflix back in 2014 when I was 12 or 13, so the first series I watched live as it aired was series 9. Thirteen was the first Doctor in which I got to experience the whole cycle: Doctor leaves, new Doctor is announced, all the hype, etc. I remember being really excited about the new Doctor being a woman and I would excitedly talk about it with my grandmother when we visited. She wasn't a Whovian and never watched the show, but she still made an effort to share in my excitement, which meant a lot since at this age a lot of adults around me kept brushing me off, wanting me to "grow up" and grow out of all this nerdy stuff. She was also fighting cancer and her memory and mind were deteriorating, so I would have to repeat things a lot when talking about it and I remember mentioning I had gotten every piece of the Thirteenth Doctor outfit that Her Universe was selling at the time, but since I was 17 and didn't have a checking account (all my money from my food job was going to savings) I couldnt afford the coat. That Christmas, one of my gifts from my grandma was the coat and I was so happy! Not only did I have the final piece, but with all her cognitive struggles, my grandma remembered. She wasn't able to watch with me because she wouldn't be able to keep up in that state, but she still wanted to acknowledge how special Doctor Who is to me. I'm 21 now, and my grandmother passed 2 years ago (this Saturday actually would have been her 71st birthday). Watching Jodie regenerate in such an optimistic way, in a way that seemed as though she was at peace, was so cathartic to me. I wasn't just crying as a goodbye to a Doctor I loved and saw myself in, but because the way Thirteen went reminded me of how my grandmother went. We were able to call hospice and make sure she was comfortable. She died in her sleep, surrounded by her friends and by us, and her last words to me the night before wasn't a goodbye, but an "I love you." Not everyone gets that closure when a loved one goes. I couldn't have asked for something more perfect. "Goodbyes only hurt because what came before was so special." hit so close to home for me because my grandma was my first best friend. For as long as I can remember, the relationship we had was very special. She wasn't here to listen to me ramble about the end of Jodie's era or listen to me excitedly squee over my excitement around the 60th and Ncuti's incarnation, but I knew that if she was she'd have been listening and paying attention. I still have that coat. I still wear it every winter. I've moved a few times in the past few years and each time, I've put it in its own separate box to keep from something happening to it. At first I wanted it because it represented my love for Doctor Who, and at first I was excited for Jodie because...well, female fan, female Doctor. But both of those things came to mean more in a more personal way. This episode feels like it was celebrating that. The relationship everyone has with Doctor Who, no matter where you started, and the memories that came from it.

The fact that this Doctor didn't try to make deeper connections with her companions really helps explain why I'm so put off by Jodie's Doctor. No hate to Jodie, but I just did not care for this Doctor. I liked Yaz and Dan. I thought they had good banter. I also, and I may be in the minority here, really liked Flux. I thought it had a lot of cool and interesting ideas, some weren't executed as well as they could have been, and I REALLY liked the Ravager designs. The make-up and prosthetics on them were AMAZING! Still hate everything to do with the Timeless Child and I felt like The Grand Serpent was just sort of...there. I feel like he should have been the leader of Division rather than Tetum or w/e her name was

I quite liked Power of the Doctor. I think, overall, it does a decent job with its smaller-ish scope and Dhawan is just having the time of his life hamming it. I think Rasputin-Master is easily the most fun I had with anything in the Chibnall Era. Almost felt like something I could have seen Moffat write.

This episode had such a weird effect on me. I didnt like the Timeless Child, yet I wanted it to be wrapped up I liked, but didnt love, Jo Martin's Doctor, yet I was gutted not to see her get any closure or more explanation I thought I didnt care about Belle and Vinder, but would have liked to see both and their kid. I definitely didnt like Thazmin, and generally thought shipping usually strayed into cringey territory, but I ended the episode like "That was the whole Thazmin wrap up? She just left herrr." Very weird one. Old Doctors were great but actually think paying off this era's hanging threads would have been better

I feel like her run would have been so much better had Chibnall not tried his hardest to distant series 11 from the rest of Doctor Who. He went out of his way to burn the bridge so badly that it was almost unfixable. Series 12 was amazing, except for the Timeless Child reveal. I was hoping that the Timeless Child was the Master, and he brought the Doctor there to show her that he was "better" than her. Everyone probably would have loved series 12 had that happened. The Flux would have been better if it were an actual series. They just tried their hardest to throw together everything and make it fit, which could work if they had more episodes. Her era was an almost because no matter how close Chibnall came to getting there he always missed the mark.

Haven't rewatched this since it first aired (maybe I will after this, can't remember if Doctor Who's still on any of my streaming services, they've been losing stuff lately) but I remember having a rather more negative reaction to this special, finding it a jumbled mess that had - at best - a few scenes that worked. It certainly doesn't help I have little to no attachment to Classic era characters, so the cheap stunts meant little to me, though I did like the companion "support group" (I'd wish an RTD or Moffatt era companion were there, but who even could be?) and there were some scenes I could tell would've meant something if I did have that attachment. Much as I've heard praise for Sacha Dhawan's Master, I never thought it clicked, coming off too much as a wannabe of previous versions (particularly Simm's), which never felt as apparent as the "Rasputin dance" moment that felt like an even more ridiculous version of Simm's Master singing/dancing along to "I Can't Decide" in "Last of the Time Lords". Don't get me wrong - I don't think it's on Dhawan, I think it's on the writing and the tone wanted by the director/showrunner.

You make an interesting case for the Oh Master falling Missy, but I still see Missy as being from the far-far futures end of the Master's lifespan. For me, I see Missy representing a burnt out Master. A Master that has lost much of the passion for fury that the John Simms & Sasha Dhawan Masters repersent. I think it may have been subtle, but there's always been a sense of self-loathing to the Master. During the 3rd Doctor's era it was shown that the Master's great fear was the Doctor laughing at him. That's not a fear someone who is genuinely confident in themselves typically holds on to. For me Missy's obsession arc with the 12th Doctor seemed to represent a brand new era for the Master. One where reuniting with the Doctor at all costs was Missy's top priority. You can't just backslide out of that. It just doesn't make sense. I would have prefered it if Chibnal had casted his own Missy and established that Missys & Masters hate each other.

While the entire Jodie Whittaker era had a lot of wasted potential and was a severe mixed bag for me overall, The Power of the Doctor was a solid end to her era and I enjoyed it just as much as The End of Time. While I do wish her era was much better than it was, I'm happy she, at least, got a solid story to go out on.

I loved this special i loved when ace called the doctor professor cause to me it was ace accepting this regeneration as the the same person who she traveled with just the doctor has a new look now and I can see her being distant with this time cause this is the first regeneration after river had died show being that she died during the 12th doctors run at the end of the husbands of river song cause the12th doctor never really openly grieved her death so with Jodie’s doctor’s being distant could be her internally grieving river’s death since she got to have a 24 year marriage with her cause the planet the 12th doctor took river had a 24 year long rotation cycle where one day lasted 24 years with the master’s plot I noticed almost immediately where they got it from once it started to unfold the maters plan was taken from the 96 movie but got mot of it accomplished cause in the movie he didn’t even get the doctor’s body like he did here but ultimately he didn’t succeed just like in the movie

I genuinely do not get how you like this ngl. Even when I disagree with your opinions I’m usually able to see how, but this feels like a fundamental disagreement. It also feels completely inconsistent with previous takes. In my opinion, you’ve always been super nitpicky, and that’s fine it’s helped me see flaws I hadn’t before. Yet I don’t see how you enjoy this episode while hating Hell Bent, it feels dichotomy of someone who in the past I would see take a hard stand on what they believe is bad writing even if I disagreed. Honestly, hell bent was way more emotionally, thematically, and narratively better episode to me personally. Hell bent had the perfect exploration of Clara and The doctor’s relationship and just how toxic it was. A lot of people get annoyed at why she was the special companion to make him break his vows. Yet the important to talk context leading up to that episode. Clara saved the Doctor all his life. She was there when he stole the Tardis and pointed him to the one he still uses. She is one of the biggest reasons the doctor still lives. Not only that but she is the longest companion the doctor has ever had from his perspective. He spent 900 years on trenzalore and Clara popped up occasionally. He saw people die that he cared about and Clara was a reminder of the man he used to be. When we first meet 12’s doctor he’s cold and detached because as a wall, his doctor under that wall is the most emotionally vulnerable out of every doctor. Yet he has this wall because he saw everyone he grew to care about die over and over for 900 years. When 12 finally starts to come out of his shell Clara dies. So now we have a doctor who has multiple times been saved by this companion throughout his life times and this for him is the longest companion he’s had. Of course, he tries to get her back, of course, he brakes all his vows. This doctor-companion relationship was special for the reasons I mentioned. Yet also because this was the first face 12 ever saw, like 11 and 10 this was the perfect imprinting. Not only that but because of how vulnerable 12 was he was the only doctor capable of being the other part of the hybrid (Moffat confirmed in interviews that the hybrid is Clara and 12). We see the ending of this rather toxic push-and-pull relationship with Clara trying to become more like the Doctor, and rather than get punished like Donna was with the Doctor-Donna we see 12 be the one to forget and Clara have an epilogue of adventures. It felt like not only a nice bow on their relationship but also a way for the show to point out 10 was wrong at not letting Donna die with her memories intact like she wanted in Journey’s end. Clara still has to die but she gets to run away from it for a bit. I also think it’s important that this doctor being so vulnerable was why he needed to have Clara erased, I don’t think he could heal himself otherwise. I also like how to face the Raven, heaven sent, and hell bent mirrors the stages of grief. Yet I know you hate this, I know you loath it. Yet because some member berries were dropped in power of the Doctor you just shut your mind off. I don’t understand I really don’t, because even though I known you hate Hell Bent you have to acknowledge it’s better written. I’d love to hear your thoughts thanks for reading.

Firstly I wanted to say thank you for this series and that I have loved every episode that I have watched :) Secondly, I have to admire your optimism and ability to judge this episode separately from the series because sadly I cannot see past it. For me, I found this episode deeply frustrating and it prevents me from enjoying it. But there are moments that I did like (mainly the past Doctor cameos) and I just wish they could have been encapsulated in a better series. Also no matter how many opinions I have heard on the matter I still think it would have been far better if we hade Jodie Master and he kept her body and did awful things in her image. That could have been fun.

What really bugs me about Yaz's departure, despite the nice ice-cream scene, is that the Doctor just kind of tells her she doesn't want her around any more. That doesn't seem like a very Doctory thing unprompted, even for 13. Like I can see her wanting to be temporarily alone, just apparently ditching Yaz out of the blue felt very weird. It could probably have worked if, instead of the sun-tentacles laser, the Master had gotten ahold of the gun the Doctor ordered to be given to Yaz, and had killed her with that. That would feel like a much more organic prompting of her to feel the need to be separate from Yaz.
