It's crazy that Tony, Andy, and Roger put together the group originally as a backing band for other famous singers at the time and Liv Tyler's mom was supposed to sing this. Robert Palmer came in to sing lead on a different song, and found out they recorded this and asked if he could just do a demo vocal over their recording. The rest of the group loved it so much they decided to use Palmer as the vocalist for the whole album 🤘

This is a studio track. Highly doubt they played this together from beginning to end in the studio. This certainly isn't a live recording. You have to give more credit to the sound engineers and producers. I'm sure Nile Rogers and Bernard Edwards had a hand in this. Edward's bass lick as well.

The thing I liked about Robert Palmer is that he dressed rather conservatively . He was so damn cool and suave that he didn't feel the need to wear outrageous clothes and funky hairstyles. He was happy to let the other dudes do that. They didn't steal each other's thunder. They shined individually. That's what drew so many of us in.

jefft68022 hours ago As a TRUE Metal Head in the 80's, you certainly haven't listened to too many good Heavy Metal guitar players have you, because the lead section in this song ain't shit. The lead Kinda sucks from a technical standpoint with all due respect to the late Robert Palmer who was great! If I'm not mistaken, Randy Rhodes from Ozzie, Dave Murray & Adrian Smith from Iron Maiden, and Eddie Van Halen were at the VERY TOP of the food chain as far as Heavy Metal guitar players go from that Era!!! The lead guitar section for this song as well as the guy who played it are not even a pimple on the ass of some of the best Heavy Metal guitar players in the world like those that I just mentioned. Not even remotely close.

@@endcensorship874 I too was an 80's kid. I was blessed to have met him a few times. When Chic hit it big, Tony Thompson was young. I think he was the age of my sister who was 20 at the time. I was 10 when she and I met C hic. Have many records he played on like Diana Ross, Sister Sledge, David Bowie's Serious Moonlight Tour, Madonna's Like A Virgin sessions and the above mentioned Power Station just to name a few. I saw The Power Station 4 times on that tour. Each time zone had a different opening act. The last time was a Live Aid in Philadelphia. My girlfriend and I were backstage serving drinks. She was 18 and was serving alcohol I was 17 and serving soft drinks. I saw Thompson's two performances. The Page/ Plant performance was on point. I'm a big fan of Phil Collins, but that wasn't one of his best performances. He was a last minute addition and was not quite ready. Thompson was chosen by Page and Plant because he knew the drum parts verbatim. Sadly kidney disease took him at 47 or 48. It was discovered too late. I I myself was struck with kidney disease at 48, but I was fortunate. I recieved my kidney last year, after battling for 5 years. Tony Thompson had so much music to offer. Gone way too soon!
