Bad direction, bad acting, terrible script, some funny jokes...then WAY too many bad jokes. Rubbish story, awful, awful CGI. Dreadful creature designs. The giant Predator, hideous. Predator dogs that have dreads but beheave like earth dogs complete with wagging tails, playing fetch and yes...one makes friends with the good guys. I'm still in shock. It does have the original Alan Silvestri theme tunes but even they sound bad and the new themes are the hammiest I've heard in a long time. This is the Robocop 3 of the franchise (complete with a kid that hacks the tech) and that's an insult to Robocop 3. Both AvP films have more respect for the franchise than this drivel.

The whole idea of “climate change means humans will be extinct in 2 generations, so the predator is coming to find all the best spines so they can add dna to their own genome” with biologists who go from being amazed they exist, to talking about “predator upgrades” man that is like the stupidest video game bullshit I’ve ever heard. Plus the human solution is not to then stop climate change, it’s to check out the new predator suit they gave to that douche bag American sniper propaganda boy. Like every interaction w the dogs or any predators - all the goofy humans are invincible and nothing cool happens, even the ship completely sucked lol Jesus

First off, our species, Archaic Homo Sapien, has been carbon dated back to 500,000 years ago. Our species has survived multiple ice ages. Why else would there Great Flood myths in generally ever culture? Because our ancestors survived apocalypse, every 50,000-100,000 years, for hundreds of thousands of years. There is evidence of an enormous meroite impact around 12,000 years ago and it didn't wipe us out, and neither with the gradual change in sea level and climate. People don't seem to know that this climate change is actually a natural process in nature. It's mainly that since the Industrial Revolution, we have been negatively impacting the environment at such a scale, that is is almost akin to condensing 50,000 years of natural climate change into 2 centuries. Lastly, it's not like in 100 years (2 generations) 100% of all life on earth will perish because of us. That's not supported by facts. The sea level won't even rise enough to make New York and Southern California under water for more like 4 generations (200 years). Don't believe me? Either watch Joe Rogan's podcast with Graham Hancock, or watch the brief video of National Geographic about what the world will look like in 2500.

There was a continuity goof I saw when they referenced the previous films. They first mentioned the events in Predator 1 and 2 took place in 1987 and 1997. Which is correct in terms of when part 2 was set. Yet then they showed images of the Predator from both films with dates and who took the photo it said part 2 picture was taken in 1990, which was when the film was filmed.

Such a disappointing, bad film! It felt like half of the movie was missing. Awful pacing, terrible editing, the CG effects seem totally unfinished and worst of all, absolutely no respect for the original! I wanted to leave the theater for the first time when the Predator showed the severed arm with the "thumb up" to signalize the driver that everything is okay and the second time when one of the dogs actually came back to make friends with the humans. What the fuck?! Further they have learned nothing from the AVP2 crap, so they filmed the whole climax as darkly as they could. Besides that the humor felt totally inappropriate, over the top and sometimes even offensive, the actors were wasted and there was no suspense at all. 2/10

flexit@ My man, i couldn't agree more. Word for word like i'm talking to my self. A terrible decapointment. The fuckin guy takes one lines from the original with no questions asked, that's not homage that's dissrespect towards the original. The CG was cartoonish most of the time, like something out of DC or latest Marvel BS. That "thumbs up" was the exact moment for me too, when the film fell appart. The gore, few actors (just by their charisma, not the characters them selfs) were decent, sound designe and old school predator SFX are the only good things about this mess. Am i being harsh? Of course, cause i expected a good fuckin movie all i got was recycled broken mess. They give great actors literally nothing to do (Thomas Jane being the first example that comes to mind), K.Michael Key was pushed to the limits in terms of oweracting, there was noooo suspence, no fear in any of them, not from the fuckin 10 ft tall predators not from death. I've heard that the ending id's the most disappointing but still I'm looking forward to seeing the film and I agree with you about the director's cut dvd or blu ray needing an extension like putting in some good deleted scenes to help pacing and depth. I love Predator 2 by the way, it's the only Predator film that comes close to the original and that's nearly impossible to do because it's such a timeless gem "we make a stand now, or there will be nobody left to go back to the chopper" 👍☺

This movie was the exact opposite of what I thought it would be. A guy in the original wants to direct and write it? Sounds good. But it turned out so badly. One thing they really needed to iron out though: the jokes. There were WAY too many of them and they were mostly stupid or didn’t make sense. If you’re gonna make a Predator movie from now on, focus on the Predator and humans less. 75% Predator 25% Humans. We all know what a Predator is, it’s 2018. They built up the suspense and mystery perfectly in the first one. Just give us a Predator movie ABOUT the PREDATORS not the fucking people we don’t care about.

The CGI in this one just didn't blend well at all. The monster Predator never felt like it was there, and the dogs were so awful. I'd even go so far as to say that the CGI in AVP 2004 looked far better, and that was in 2004! It probably looked better because they used it sparingly and stuck to real sets, real props, real animatronic monsters, and real suits for the Predators and Aliens. CGI was mainly used for the Alien Queen when she walked around, and it's honestly astounding how good it looks because she's mostly shrouded by fog so you don't notice she's CGI. Space those moments out with real animatronics and they created the illusion that she's real, just like Jurassic Park did.

Here is my thought on it - I enjoyed it, but do realize that the script did not start out being a "Predator" sequel - the clue comes during the ending credits; Shane Black and Fred Dekker co-wrote the screenplay and, although many people forget about it, they also co-wrote "The Monster Squad" together the same year both the original "Predator" and the original "Lethal Weapon" came out - so, I'm thinking the script was really a "Monster Squad" sequel that was re-tooled for the Predator universe

I don't get why people think these movies can only be action movies. One of the best parts of the original was it's horror aspects, it was so tense at some points. I think the best direction a new Predator movie could go in is full-on horror. It would be different from others in that aspect, and it would be refreshing to once again see the Predator as some mysterious, unstoppable force that can't even be run from. Not like that will ever actually happen.

Sadly there will be no more Fix it in Post. The series wasn't doing well. The reviews that would perform well was when opinions were polarising with the public such as The Last Jedi and Alien Covenant. Richard and I had discussed months ago about stopping it because only a fraction of my audience would tune in for the weekly reviews. It become too costly for me to produce such as renting studio space and dedicating my time to a show that wasn't getting much of an audience compared to my Retrospectives which is the heart of the channel and the majority of my subscribers tune in for.

I really think this is the final nail in the Predator's coffin.

I worked on the CGI creatures in this movie. The production was stopped to rewrite half the script. Initially more creatures were supposed to be featured. It was never native stereo 3d, that's why the post 3d conversion sucks.

Oliver, how can you say the "CGI holds up very well"? It's has some of the worst CGI I've seen in years (The Roided-Out predator? the ghastly rendered predator dogs that looked worse than the Hulk dogs from And Lee's Hulk). I liked the violence but there was no tension and the blood looked CG for the most part. They even got the colour of the predator blood wrong and although I liked the use of Silvestri's themes, they only really kicked in whenever a helicopter appears on screen. And don't get me started on the Iron Man ending!
@reservoirfrog15 жыл бұрын
Oh yeah, and the comedy was jarring and didn't land. It felt more like Judd Apatow and less like Shane Black!
@jeggsonvohees22015 жыл бұрын
reservoirfrog1 The cg looks better in the first half, but you can tell when they had to resort they didn't have time to render completely.

I don’t understand all the shade Predators 2010 gets. Personally, I loved the film. It had great action, decent story, and the super predators were badass.

as a big time fan of the comics and the movie, i must say this movie was extremely disappointing. from the god awful script about a traitor predator trying to help the very humans he butchered during his escape from the lab, to the awful notion that predators dna contain human traces? wtf? and they are trying to evolve thats why they rip out spines? wtf? iam guessing an evolved predator is simply taller as this movie implies. just terrible writing on all corners. this coming from the man who starred in the original movie, you would think he would do the movie justice but instead we end up with a mediocre drivel that has its moments but for the most part just a slow slide down hill. why is it hard to understand the people want to see predator hunting, using his cool tech, and facing off against a resourceful underdog thats it that the whole premise. no need for convoluted bullshit. theres an excellent fan made movie on you tube with predator hunting medieval knights that gets it right the creator understood what made the predator cool. watch it youll see. for me predator 1-2 remain the best in the franchise and alien vs predator is actually better than people give it credit for.

I always liked Predator 2. I never understood the hate. This one is full of flaws. Too many, starting with the lead, Boyd Holbrook who was anoying as hell. Nebraska, played by Trevante Rhodes was the most interesting character and should´ve been the lead. At least they could´ve let him live.

Predator 1 and 2 was amazing, predators was not bad but this movie predator 2018 makes no sense we all thought the normal predator was going to help the humans kill the ultimate predator but he didnt even get that much screen time. I think this movie is not a predator movie.

I have to agree with every criticism you labelled at it Oli...despite this I still really enjoyed the film, I'd describe it as stupid fun which never takes itself to seriously...Could it have been better with better pacing and more character depth? Of course but I still didn't find myself bored at all while watching it at the cinema.

This is sad, while I was hopeful that Black would make something great out of _The Predator,_ and was intrigued by the thought of it being set in suburbia, I did have worries once the Giant Predator was revealed in one of the trailers. Sad shame. I do hope that we get either a Director's Cut on home-video, or a possible original script leaked out, to determine what has happened to this film.

The ONLY things that especially worked for me were the chemistry of the cast and the sequence where the first Predator breaks out of confinement.
@jeffyaremko45305 жыл бұрын
I completely agree, I think Shane black had a much different vision for this film but was forced to make changes. Anything predator I'm always going to love but this could have and should have been much better than it was. Here's to hoping we get another one someday. Maybe with Chris Nolan at the helm next time? Or Dennis villeneuve?
@adambusenlehner36895 жыл бұрын
Lethal Weapon 2 was written by Jeffrey Boam. Unless Black did some script polishing I'm not aware of.
@Godsoe5 жыл бұрын
Other way around. Black wrote the original script which was the same basic plot but much darker. It was considered to be too dark for the studio so they hired Boam to rewrite it.

Chanum Tatum or Jennifer Lawrence could have made a movie like this. Why? In the Predator and even later Alien prequels you don't have the sorta corny but likable larger than life personalities to take the monsters on. That's what's missing, it wasn't just Arnold verses Predator but only a super alien could take on the ARNOLD. You don't get that in a lot of movie nowadays.

Consider the basics: The original "Predator" was set in a remote region, where isolation was key to the drama and atmosphere; the new "Predator" is set in suburbia, it changes locations frequently, and the characters are always highly mobile. The original "Predator" treated the alien as mysterious and remote; the new "Predator" features human characters categorizing and lecturing about the alien's nature, culture, motivations, and biology, and the new alien even has a substantial amount of dialogue in "English." The original "Predator" featured an ensemble cast who are gradually winnowed away, creating tension and the very real sense that anyone could die at any time; the new "Predator" puts the characters in little direct danger for much of the film, the alien scarcely seems to care that they exist most of the time, and while it's entirely obvious who will live and who will die there's also no particular sense that anyone is going to die soon anyway. The original "Predator" is a a human-scale story about one conflict, with the stakes being immediate and obvious--the characters' lives; the new "Predator" is all about the end of the world, alien civil strife, and large-scale alien/human conflict, etc, all in terms mostly interchangeable with, say, a "Transformers" movie, or that "Independence Day" sequel. The original "Predator" features morally ambiguous characters, soldiers of fortune and government spooks who contrast with the morality of killing for sport or political conflicts vs killing for money and immediate gain; the new "Predator" features entirely black and white, clear cut good guys and bad guys and lionizes military service. In short, other than the presence of the Predator creature itself and I guess Shane Black, the new film has essentially nothing in common with the original. This doesn't make it a bad movie--I mean, I DO think it's a very bad movie, personally, but that's actually a separate issue--but it's hard to shake the feeling that the filmmakers intentionally disassociated this movie with virtually everything from the old one.

Have you thought about reviewing Near Dark?
@OliverHarper5 жыл бұрын
Hi Martin, I reviewed it ages ago but it got blocked by StudioCanal. I spoke with them direct and I need to re-edit it for their approval. The studio is pretty strict as its a European based company and fair use is a tad more problematic.
