I'm a Saints fan and Ali Dia is genuinely, without any irony one of my favourite ever players. The bloke's an absolute genius! He'll be remembered forever, far longer than any "good" player. Fair play to him!

I was there for the game and honestly I've seen worse than him have much longer careers in the Prem. As you said yourself he actually nearly scored...he looked more like a player who hadn't trained for a long time rather than someone who was just terrible.

Another Dia was Dhominic Dia, U20 World Cup top goalscorer in 2009. AC Milan signed with him, but he became a completely unknown player over his career..

It's not his fault. No one pressing between the lines. We have uncoordinated pressing, which costs us the game. And that's down to the manager and coaches tactics.

Ali Dia has a son named Simon Dia who actually made a decent career for himself in the lower leagues of French football, though he's currently playing in Thailand's highest football division
