This is part two of the tutorial series 'How to use Arturia Pigments'.
In this video we discuss the preset browser and all the features that comes with it! We can explore all the presets we have stored on our local computer, organize presets with tags, styles, colors, and also into different preset banks!
We also take a look at the Arturia Pigments preset store and see how we can preview sounds before we decide to by the pack.
In the next video we will discuss the analog engine and all the features it offers! (Check the current schedule on the channel for updated release schedules)

every preset doesnt play any audio when I click on them, had this same problem with vital. On vital I could still hear the sound by playing a key on my keyboard, however that isnt working for pigments. Downloaded the demo and tried browsing around and nothing played, so I still have no idea if it's worth buying. And yes the audio export is set to the right thing.

Awesome video and very thorough!! Im totally new to Pigments and sound design in general. I'm definitely intrigued by Pigments and want to pick it up, but I've heard that it doesn't work with/inside of Logic Pro X, is this true or have you heard of anyone having issues with that integration?

Thanks man!! I try to make each course as thorough as possible. Pigments is a great synth. I don't use logic so I'm not sure about the integration of it. I would imagine a daw like logic can load pigments though.

So it seems that the 3.7 version was causing the issue. I uninstalled it and installed version 4.0 and now I can save presets.

Hi Jon - great videos. I run Pigments inside Ableton and one thing I’ve continually had trouble with on any plugin is mapping program and bank (what I call presets) changes to any midi controller. I can map one of the arrows to a knob, but it will only work one way (down or up). I’ve tried mapping two buttons to the two arrows - that hasn’t worked either. Just curious if you’ve had any luck. I’d rather browse presets from my midi keyboard rather than reaching for the mouse.

thanks man!! that's an interesting question you bring up. I don't use ableton so I wouldn't know what to change, but I'll ask around people I know who use ableton and see if they have any solutions for you

Hi Jon I’m using UAD Luna and obviously mostly an audio guy. I am wanting to add some synths with sequencing etc. Will Pigments 4 work inside of Luna ?? Do I need to get Bitwig or something similar?

I've never used Luna before but if it can load vsts then absolutely you can use pigments 4 in Luna.

Hi Jon, great video thanks!! I followed your steps but the external presets I got are not showing on the pigments. When I turn on “User” it does not show any preset. The only way to load them on pigments is importing it at the three horizontal stripes. I was wondering if the folder location is incorrect. Any hint on this issue? Also everything I “like” it does not save as liked. :( Thank you very much

Hmm that does seem odd 🤔 do you have any presets you have made? The only reason user stuff wouldn't show up is if there aren't any user presets previously made. If you have make user presets and they aren't showing up, maybe a reinstall would be worth trying.

Thanks for replying back. This happens with the external presets I purchased. Maybe the folder where the presets are stored is incorrect, but I tried storing in a lot folders. Is there any way to check which is the correct folder to save them? I’m going to uninstall the plugin and do it again anyway. Thanks!

I don’t know if I missed you covering this, but are you aware of a way to import other Arturia user created presets? I know there are Arturia forums and such that it’s possible to download other’s presets, but I’m talking more like is it possible to download them directly through the synth browser feature? I’ve purchased a few of the recommended sound packs already, but I think I may be missing something in the settings as there are only like 10 pre-made packs that show up, and I find it difficult to believe that a product like Pigments only has 10 packs available… but also with the amount of users it has, I was just curious if user generated presets where able to be populated in the browser. Anyway, I commented earlier but thanks for doing this series! This is already has answered a few questions I had … awesome!

The way you would import user made presets is by downloading the bank or individual preset and clicking the top left and selecting import. For example I make a preset pack for pigments every month and I make a new bank for all the presets in that pack, after it's finished I export the bank, so when people purchase them, they receive one file that has all the presets in it, and its as easy as clicking on the top left menu and selecting import. presetshare . com has lots of free presets with examples for pigments and lots of other synths too incase that is something you're interested in. The store has much more than 10 packs in it, sometimes it can take a little bit to load everything, but on my end I can scroll for quite a long time in the in synth browser store.

@@jonaudio Ok I will have to check again and see if I can get more to load up. On the other side, I will check out your packs, because frankly, it’s obvious you have a great grasp of the Pigments synth, and as such I know your packs will be excellent quality. Thanks again! 👍🏻👍🏻

I've spent so much time with pigments haha. @@jonaudio Awesome! Thank you! I will give it a download and play around with them for sure! Right now I’m just binge-watching your series and jotting down little take-aways for things I had questions on, and found the answers in your content lol. I used to think Vital was an awesome soft synth until I purchased Pigments. I still love Vital, but frankly, once I master all of the user interface stuff with Pigments, I have a feeling Vital will sit on the shelf… Pigments just sounds great, and does anything we ask of it! Lol

Also when I heart a preset to try to save it this way, it does nothing but turn the heart blue. If I open a new pigments that preset isnt showing up in the liked section. That section doesnt work either, under my favorites-edit, if I turn on different colors and click done nothing happens.

I might also be a bad install. Have you uninstalled pigments, restarted, reinstalled and load that up? Also in VST not VST3? That's worth a try

Bro why cant I save modified presets??? The only option that allows me to save it is export but then when I import it, it shows up as an error occured. Save preset option is unavailable, save preset as option either crashes daw and it also shows a message that its not allowed to overwrite presets smh.

That is very odd and I don't think that is normal functionality. I just tried on my end to open a preset from the Pigments 2.0 pack, I modified a few settings and changed some knobs and under the top left, I was able to select 'Save As..' and that worked fine for me. 'Save Preset' is greyed out and unavailable for stock presets as to avoid writing over them, but you can 'Save As..' And call it something different.

@@jonaudio IDK wtf is up with this thing. Im using Pigments 3.7 with FL Studio 20.9.2 and it keeps crashing everytime I try to save preset as. Good thing FL Studio doesnt close when it crash tho it just stay the same but with an error message that it crashed. Maybe you can try this preset to see if it saves for you. Its called dissolving telephone, idk what pack its from.

One thing that it could maybe be is the VST version. When you look into your Manage Plugins menu, find pigments and see what it says there. For me, Im NOT using the VST3 version, but rather the VST version and that one is 64 bit. If that doesnt show up for you, make sure to uncheck the option on the left hand side of the plugin manager called 'Combine 32 and 64 bit versions of a plugin' and 'Combine VST and VST3 versions of a plugin'. Let me know what happens if you use the regular VST 64 bit version and not VST3 version.

@@jonaudio Damn you serious? Thats weird cuz it doesnt work when I try to do it. Wait Ive been scaning all my plugins with all the options on (combine vst/vst3 32/64bit). I didnt use to do it this way before but I just recently started using the 64bit version of FL Studio so I had to re install all my plugins so they can be 64bit (only one thats 32bit now is nexus) and I also have FL Studio 20.7.2 (32bit) which I kept just in case of collabs/lower version projects. So I shouldnt combine vst/vst3 and 32/64bit? Or just dont combine vst/vst3 only? Edit: So I just did the scan again without combining vst/vst3 and it found both versions seperately. I tested them one at a time this time to see if it will work, but the same thing happens like in the begining. Both versions vst and vst3 make fl studio crash (save preset as - crashes the first time, immedietely try it again and this time it shows that presets cant be overwritten), and also export/import comes back with an error message. I tried with a preset from every pack. Smh, I guess just gonna have to use this plugin without the ability to save presets.
