Here we look back at the most defining moments and how a former actor changed Conservatism in America forever.

Sarah Findley, Jordan Hill, Brian Aabech

@@cbarry9819 It wasn't Carter's fault that the economy was terrible. The oil shock hurt the U.S. economy. Reaganomics hurt the poor and the middle class by crushing unions. @cbarry9819 He did not lie. He let his Chief-of-Staff accumulate too much power. It was greater than most economies and importantly he oversaw an economic revolution in thinking at least which re-oriented the people to freer markets (Which creates jobs by the way, it is not perfect I agree.).

I think Ronald Reagan was precisely the man that the United States needed at the helm at that time. His optimism helped America get its groove back, confidence in itself, and his commitment to strengthening US power - Peace Through Strength - helped end the Cold War. And what a communicator. To think that Reagan came oh co close to pitching a "no hitter" when he got re-elected in 1984, which only stupid Minnesota prevented from happening that year! I'm so glad that I lived through both the Carter and Reagan administration's because this nonsense that, "the rich got richer and the poor got poorer," was completely untrue. Furthermore, this documentary NEVER mentions the explosive economic/job growth, the reduction of double-digit inflation, interest rates and unemployment that Reagan inherited was wiped out by the time he started his 2nd term in Office. This documentary left not only a lot to be desired but a lot to be admired about this iconic President.

"Though the standard of living rose, its growth was no faster than during 1950-1980. Income inequality increased. The rate of poverty at the end of Reagan's term was the same as in 1980. Cutbacks in income transfers during the Reagan years helped increase both poverty and inequality. Changes in tax policy helped increase inequality but reduced poverty. These policy shifts are not the only reasons for the lack of progress against poverty and the rise in inequality. Broad social and economic factors have been widening income differences and making it harder for families to stay out of poverty. Policy choices during the Reagan Administration reinforced those factors."

@@pitchforkpeasant6219 : That's a fair point, however there are differences. E.g., Republicans love to cut benefits, cut taxes of the ultra-rich. Republicans are willing to sacrifice the environment and people's health if it's economically beneficial to do so. Dems, on the other hand, tend to take opposite positions. It's also important to point out that the only time in the last 50 years the government had a balanced budget was under a Democrat president. Republicans love to claim they're for fiscal responsibility, but that's a bald-faced lie.

I was disappointed in the slant. Working on my Masters in Business, I learned cutting spending & taxes allows people to keep more of what they earn. This creates more productive spending of available funds, as the consumer taxpayer is directly benefited. The boost in productivity that builds increasing revenue takes time. Unless we could maintain a steady policy, the idea appears as mere good intention, when the opposing party comes into office & reverses tax cuts, etc, before the policy has had time to fully work. Given time, a rising economic tide would have lifted all boats, so to speak. Yet, this video has a slant that taints. Instead of a fair economic appraisal, the video says the policy doesn't work. Perhaps because of this, the policies that were the backbone of this trickle down policy, like lower taxes, are questioned. The video talks about the social program cuts without explaining what those cuts hoped to accomplish, nor what positive changes we were beginning to see because of them. It was not a completely biased portrayal of the former president, however. I think the slant was less an outright denial of truth, as a drawing from how people on the left view the president.

President Reagan loved America 🇺🇸 for America’s greatness, strength and Americans’ happiness either as American, California Governor of America or President of America. He tried his very best to ensure America’s greatness, recognitions and principles to preserve, protect and defend Americans’ freedoms, entrepreneurship spirit and equality of the opportunities and kindness nature for Americans of all being able to enjoy freedoms, entrepreneurship spirit and equality of the opportunities to achieve own American dreams, either a bit, some, more or much more as well known performers, or well known athletes, or professors, research professionals, inventors, business entrepreneurs, or governing leaders, or even become the President of our country America. President Reagan had worked hard with his Vice President Bush together through getting things done quickly, putting down looting, robberies or killings without hesitations for Americans being able to take care of families and build America peacefully together. I still remember that Americans and America’ unity was very strong by America’s patriotism spirit to wish our country America very best, love our country America dearly and tried our very best to build our country America’s greatness together by own hardworking efforts happily together. America’s own established Constitution laws absolutely superseded Terrorism activities, or Communism ideologies influences, or European Socialism systems, but America’s recognitions and principles to ensure America’s recognitions and principles for peace domestically and peace in the world. They united with many allies together for peace efforts toward achieving freedoms, entrepreneurship spirit and equality of the opportunities by good behaviors instead by races. Also Christianity spirit influences brought loving kindness nature to connect Americans of all by kindness nature to wish others the very best by doing better things together quickly. With different recognitions or systems of countries, President Reagan and President Bush were trying best to spread liberty concepts for adapting and spreading freedoms, entrepreneurship spirit and equality of the opportunities principles. They wished more open minded leaders will learn quickly and let their citizens to be able to live by more freedoms and equality of the opportunities societies. Whatever they did, encourage loving America by America’s patriotism spirit which made Americans together loved our country America dearly, build our country diligently together which created America’s greatness, strength and happiness as a strong world leadership status efforts toward peace efforts in the world as much as can. Massive jobs made Americans of all to be able to live stable life as well as truly American dreams spread out quickly. In Americans’ mind, impossibly ideologies influences would be able to influence our country America 🇺🇸, because this is America 🇺🇸 and Americans for America’s recognitions and principles for peace efforts domestically and internationally to preserve freedoms, entrepreneurship spirit and equality of the opportunities as duties and with unity altogether peacefully and happily. However, President Reagan and President Bush made sure that America’s greatness must be forever peacefully. Miss our President Reagan and President Bush always and RIP both President Reagan and President Bush. Wish our country America’s own established Constitution laws will preserve our freedoms, entrepreneurship spirit and equality of the opportunities endlessly forever toward shining hill together.

@@donald8354 JFK's eternal fame is due to him being murdered. he will be always & forever the young assassinated president in the TV era. As a president he made huge mistakes, got dragged in Vietnam he had already 20k "advisors", the building of the Berlin Wall was another sign the USSR saw him as weak. He averted the cuban missile crisis, which had there been no bay of pigs, would have never happened. He alienated Cuba, no excuses that the plan was from the previous administration, he approved it. A mistake that nearly destroyed humanity. Under JFK cold war was at its height. He had shady connections with the Mafia through Sinatra. At personal level his conduct with all those affairs he had, even in the White House is unbecoming of a President. His assassination ultimately made it possible ironically for his horrible successor to pass some important legislation which JFK could not. He was young and charismatic, even with all his faults he was much better than LBJ, Nixon, Ford, Carter Bush Snr, Clinton, Bush Jnr, Obama, Trump and Biden. Reagan belongs to a higher level, the magic of the 80's, he lifted a depressed country to a renewed optimism, The USA regained the respect it lost since Vietnam and especially under Nixon and Carter.

@@donald8354 Kennedy actually might have saved the world. People in these comments know nothing of our foreign policy. Kennedy deescalated nuclear war with the soviet union through great negotiation and was keeping us limited in scope in Vietnam, though he was in favor of funding the anti-communist faction there to fight for themselves. Reagan just got to bask in the fall of the USSR because the USSR had no long-term viability. If anything, Reagan actually brought us more war by giving weapons to this guy he called a "freedom fighter" named Osama Bin Laden. Turns out that was a bad call on the gipper's part.

@@SconnerStudios Reagan didn't "give" Osama Bin Laden weapons. The US helped back Afghan fighters, mujahideen rebels, against Soviet Union only because supporting countries against Soviet aggression was standard policy and thank God for that because when you have a system offing over a hundred million in one swoop, that's the very definition of evil. But your comment is clearly bias & false that Reagan gifted Osama weapons. Let me guess, you're a democrat!?! 👌🏻🙉🥴 Don't forget to mention that America also supported Suddam Hussein against Iran since bringing up evil that once were not so evil seems to be your way of bringing down one of the greatest beloved presidents of all time that just so happens to be republican. The only thing I agree on is the threat and close call that was averted thanks to Russian intelligence and American, they were luckily not hateful nor serious like the politicians. There is a documentary about it my dad had me watch, my dad was a nuclear physicist at Los Alamos and had some good resources on such topics. I think Reagan's passion for America and belief in us as a people is why his memory is missed and he was highly appreciated & respected!!!

There are a couple mistakes in this. Ronald Wilson Reagan rarely cut government spending but he cut the increase in government spending. Overall he cut domestic spending by 1%-1.5% and increased military spending by 0.5% relative to Gross Domestic Product. Furthermore, military spending was going to go up anyhow but the degree to which it would was the question. On taxes, the poor got tax cuts more than the rich arguably (This caused problems for getting companies to invest.) and the intransigence of the Democrats in Congress meant that his policies could rarely get through unscathed, so the fact so much was done in improving the economy is truly a mammoth task for which he deserves a lot of credit. As for the disease mentioned here, it is indeed not a homosexual disease *however* it is more likely to be transmitted through their method of sexual activity than normal sexual activity. Also yeah needles. It is a fact that abstaining from sexual activity means you will not get a sexually transmitted disease. Furthermore contraception has more problems and abstaining from sexual activity and developing a cure should have been the actions taken.

Interesting rewrite. Reagan said his tax cuts would end inflation and give us balanced budgets. He tripled the debt and a deep recession ended inflation.
@johnnotrealname8168
@johnnotrealname8168 6 ай бұрын
@jamievetter601 His tax cuts did not balance the budget certainly and inflation was ended by high interest rates. He supported that policy. The tax cuts were meant to spur economic investment and given how successful the economy was, it was good. As for military spending, yeah it was a lot, probably too much but modernising the military was important and a larger military budget was on the table already.

how is it arguable that the poor got more tax cuts than the rich? use the percentage by which they were cut. and, for the record, reagan's cuts in social spending are the reason you conservatives complain about the homeless. he eliminated federally funded sanitariums and sent the homeless/mentally ill into the streets. neoliberal economics (which im sure you wouldn't have a clue of without chatgpt) fucked this country in the a** and enabled the 2008 financial crisis. reagan had a good heart, but not a damn clue of what he was doing (and if he did, then he was truly a pos).

The segment about Reagans reforms being bad for the poor are rubbish. Yes, the taxcuts made the gap between rich and poor greater. But that is because everyone kept more of the income they have worked for which benefitted everyone not just ''the rich''. Abolishing the welfare programs was also a good move by Reagan. It lowered taxes wich meant all classes of society kept more of their income.

Without any doubt! Reagan was very succestul in foreign affairs but in internal politic had no the same stature. As actor was a great performer, a real leader, but his "Reagonomics" left behind the most unequal industrial country in the world. The term "homeless" was coined during his period and left behind the country deep in dept. Nevertheless his greater achievement was to put an end to the Cold War and we are all very gratefull for that . Greeting from Germany.
