It's actually really accessible. The lake is surrounded by a highway, and has thousands of lake access points.

What time of year is best to kayak or paddle board? When would the water be too uncomfortable for such activities?

you can do it year round really, may and october are my favorite months because the lake is crowd free, june-sept are the most popular times

Watch out for the plesiosaurus she’s out there. I saw her myself. I swam halfway across the lake. She pick me up and move me twice set me down and I swim for my life unbelievable 1986 Westshore, Homewood, California.
