That James was a hoot. For an old guy he sure was getting around pretty good there. Did you see the way he bounded out of his seat to come on down? "I'm just as old, I'm going to live until I die". lol. Loved Johnny's laugh.

Watching the visual on this skipping bounce around reminded me of when I used to watch stuff like this on my old 13 inch black and white TV with a coat hanger as the antenna. Nostalgia at its finest.

I remember years back, I was reading stuff about the pricing games online, and I saw pictures of the playing of Cliff Hangers from this episode on there. The site is no more; but just the same.

Another possible reason could be a music clearance issue. Originally, "The Dwarf's Yodel (The Silly Song)", from Disney's "Snow White And the Seven Dwarves", was used.

I assume that at the time of this taping, Bob hosted a Tuesday "Emcee Week" episode of Tattletales because that's the same wardrobe Bob wore.

One thing I was wondering about Cliff Hangers: Why hasn't the full episode featuring the first ever playing of it, resurfaced? A fur coat clearance issue?

Honestly, I can accept how jumpy the picture is, I just thoroughly enjoy that its an episode announced by Johnny Olson that aired 9 years and 20 days before I was born. I would thoroughly enjoy any PIR episode (or game show in general) that was announced by him. Long story short, you definitely made my day by uploading this episode.....PERIOD!!! : )

I doubt that would be it. It was only used in its first few playings. Besides, there was no problem clearing the song when a clip of the first playing was shown during the 40th season premiere week clips.

There's no way of knowing. I'm sure it still exists. Just not many people have taped it then. This is the earliest playing of this game I've got.

It said that the episode was taped in November 1976. The first thing I would notice is that Anitra is not on this show - her last show aired at the end of December 1976, so the third lady is in fact one of the applicants trying out for the vacated position - which would later be filled by Holly Hallstrom. It is nice to see this period of "transition" at the beginning of 1977. For some reason, there aren't a lot of episodes from Fall1976 - Spring 1979 floating around. This is a nice post!

Anitra's second-to-last episode (December 27) was taped October 19, 1976. I'm guessing her very last show would have either been taped that same day or the day after.

It’s the Family Feud theme song. It was used on TPIR regularly from 1976-85 like the original Feud with Richard Dawson and after that it was shorten to the ending used during “Grand Game.” The 1994 Family Feud was used all the way up into the 2000’s for certain showcases.
