Honestly I'm sad that the gold hilt is gone as well as the red handle. The idea that the blade had to be repaired sometime between the end of CC and the start of 7 would have been very fitting; Cloud and the sword both being broken memories of Zack.

The gold hilt buster sword was implied to have always been that way (it was sort of rebooted). This is evidenced in Advent Children where the buster sword also has the gold hilt, both in the opening scene and when Cloud visits it. FF7R changed it back to the original design, and Crisis Core Reunion did the same so that people wouldn't be confused.

Shouldn’t have been incredibly difficult. Just swap out the sword models and render. We know they still have access to the Advent Children models because they initially thought of using those for Remake because they were cutting edge at the time, but graphics had improved to the point that prerendered AC models were worse than game rendered models.

@@andrewli6606 it was a gray area, a lot companies, specially japanese companies never properly kept the source code for their ps2/psp and below era stuff. Square itself lost the source code for Kingdom Hearts and others. Keeping the working code for prerender cutscenes specially is kinda impressive. I don't think even Advent Children was re-rendered, and it's simply a basic 4k upscale with higher bitrate. This could be a ridiculously faithful recreation, or a really good frame by frame edit.

I prefer the original. That being said, I'm glad that they had the new actor redub the lines that he did in Remake again in Reunion. His "price of freedom is steep" line sounded way better this time.

Well I believe that’s intentional. As we know in that remake scene it leads to him actually living the encounter and so an entirely different reality. The two scenes are presented in different ways, Remake presents him quite heroic, a man standing against an army with no fear, as in original Crisis core this scene follows sign after sign throughout the game that he’s going to die. I think they wanted Zack to sound more upbeat in the scene for remake to match how they went about it.

@@ventuslive I mean if you want to call every interpretation head cannon then be my guess. The new VA matched the lines with OG crisis core, almost every line is the same, a couple improvements here and there, but overall the entire games bad dialogue is still there, it’s just the new VA. You say it wasn’t presented that way but look at the actual scenes. The music specifically, Remakes whole reveal of Zach is heroic the Music when they finally show his face and then the drop as you see what he’s going up against, that’s not the same in Both Crisis core games, where the new VA literally matches the OG lines and voice direction

@@justingabriel1765 That would make sense if it weren't for the fact that reunion version also added music that sounds heroic. I think your interpreting style choice and inflating it to coincide with the different timeline approach. Zach's entire stick is that he wants to desperately be a first class hero like Sephiroth, so why would a different timeline change how heroic he is when the only difference is that he survived the shinra attack? I genuinely think he took feedback because a general consensus of that scene was that it was largely disliked by the fanbase.

@@ventuslive I’m sure he did take feedback but that doesn’t change the fact that when you Voice act you have a voice director that tells you how they want you to deliver the lines Lmfao 🤣, people hated the voice I get that but it wasn’t the VAs fault, that’s my point it’s not like in a game with amazing acting already that they just decided to let their big twist character have ass dialogue compared to the rest of the game. That was a mistake on the voice direction Is my point. Because once again he sounds great in the rebirth stuff we have gotten, but he still sounds similar to the scene from remake. And I wouldn’t call the music they added in reunion heroic tbh it doesn’t sound that way to me, either way it still is a completely different tone then how it is in remake by the nature of the situation the scene is in

@@TheShadowBrigade well nobody knows about the details. In japanese VA, the character's VA are still the same. So there might really be a problem here in recalling the same people in english VA that worked with them.

It's fishy to me because it's so unlike Square Enix to just replace a whole cast like that when they're usually pretty good about bringing them back, especially after so many years.

I think it'd be neat if they explain that Angeal put on the iron guard to protect the ornamentation Digging into the model in Remake reveals that the red handle is still there, just under wrappings, and a cosplayer even was able to make a cc/Advent buster sword with the iron guard attachment making it perfectly possible in lore for both designs to be true.

Clearly Reunion and the Remake are the same scene with Zack's Sword hilt design. Of course those "ghost plot" creatures are seen in the remake but not in reunion. But they can't exactly be seen by most humans. I'm really glad this is happening. I'm hoping the same happens for Dirge of Cerberus. New overall look, change the story a bit and even new 3rd person gunplay.

@@punkpop101 Spoiler alert for obvious resons I think there was an interview where the director explained that the ghosts we see in game are Fates Wardens. You kill them at the end of the game, breaking the loop and allowing for the second game to have much more room to play with. Which is what they intend to do, I'll see if I can find both the video explaining the theory and the confirmation from the staff

@@punkpop101 well no there’s a possibility that the entire reason that they had you kill the plot ghosts are to make you FEEL like you can save Arieth. But the thing is she knows she needs to die, and Sephiroth knows her dying leads to his defeat the first time, the only way part 2 succeeds for a lot of people is that Arieth scene, and how could they possibly make it hurt more then it originally did? By giving you false hope that you can save her, or maybe she AND another person dies, or maybe Cloud needs to kill her or accidentally does. There’s plenty of ways they have now at their disposal to make that scene HURT.

The scene from remake was a nice homage to the 2007 PSP game, Crisis Core. Reunion is a remaster of Crisis Core. It's more or less the same story, except the scene from Remake was more of a flashback to past events, and isn't the main plot

Aside from the Buster Sword being changed, I honestly prefer the original looks of Zack's face. I find the new face quite off-putting. The difference is pretty jarring in my opinion.

What's important between the two is the voice change. Is it the original without the file compression, or is it the remake voice actor just doing better with the lines than in FF7 remake?

@@illuvatarthechosen5341 It is re-recorded without compression and delivered differently. But the original files were compressed, so the original VA wouldn't sound the same either. (Part of Zack's distinct voice in the original Crisis Core is the audio compression used). But if they recalled the original VA to re-record the lines, then there's no reason he couldn't have done the remake lines too. However, if they took the remake VA and gave him time to practice, he could get the personality and delivery much better for the big moment. Given that Zack has playable scenes in Rebirth, it stands to reason that they would want to give the remake VA time to practice and learn the character more deeply. At least that's what I would hope for; in Remake it was just too obvious that Zack's new VA is Reno from Advent Children.

I feel like there’s too much hate for Caleb Pierce tbh, some people just say he’s there for a paycheck but he’s definitely trying. They could have just reused his line in ff7r for Crisis Core but instead he redid it. It’s only his first va role and Rick’s performance set a very high bar so cut him some slack.

@@masterDarts4188 Between original Crisis Core and Reunion It's literally the same video with a model swap on the sword. Reunion's reusing all the original FMVs, camera angles in game and animations for in-game graphics, just with new models. Remake is using in-game realtime graphics. Hence why it changed.

If they can change the sword model, can they change Zack’s model to look like he does in the game? I think they’ll scrap the entire cutscene and make it in-game. They shouldn’t use a 15 year old cutscene; not because it looks dated but because it’s inconsistent to Remake and Crisis Core gameplay.

@@MaxBraver555 Could have been a Cloud thing to want to change the handle to the bolts. That Gold style just seemed to match Zack and Angeal more.

@@CyberQ3000 The problem is that it also looked like that in Advent Children, which takes place after the original FFVII. The gold style was put there to make the sword more fancy (and possibly recognizable, even though the Buster Sword's design was already one of the most iconic in video games), but the vast majority of people ended up not liking it, and the worse part is that Square refused to commit to confirming it as the official design: every single appearance of the sword outside the compilation (barring Lightning Returns) used the old design, while the new one was almost exclusively associated with Zack. When Remake came around, they had to make a choice, so they went with a compromise: older hilt, newer blade. It really wouldn't have made sense for Cloud to change the hilt himself, given the sword's importance for Zack.

@@CyberQ3000 I made that assumtpion before that Cloud probably modified it, but at the After Credit scene of CC, it remains Gold even in AC, so maybe it was an oversight or redesign choice during the Compilation of FF7 but now, they seem to be correcting it and connected to the REMAKE, considering its name REUNION

Honestly the next game is where we’ll see him at his best hopefully. This game he literally has to match the god awful dialogue the way it originally way, there’s only like 2 changes in the entire game. And he’s fighting an uphill battle since I don’t believe anyone is really giving him a chance like as soon as they hear him their like “ugh Rick Gomez was better” like bro just listen, you can like Ricks voice better but like damn to sit there and act like it’s actually that big of a difference is dumb. I even think Caleb is Matching the JP VA more then Rick, trying to have them sound more similar. If he was trying to copy Rick it be a problem, but somehow him trying to have his own take on the character is also a problem

The line " the price of freedom is steep" was my only problem it sounded too arrogant in the FFVII remake but they fixed it in reunion. Thank you square enix!

Just finished CC reunion. Had to play it with Japanese VA cause the new VA’s really jarred my experience & didn’t convey/deliver the lines with the emotional depth that was needed, they just didn’t portray the same emotion & personification of the characters correctly due to how they delivered the lines with a lack of understanding the characters personality they’re playing Voice acting is still acting at the end of the day, you’re still playing a role, even tho we can’t see their face. It is important to the experience that it’s cast correctly & portrayed well & unfortunately I didn’t get that for the majority of them. The four mains really - Zack, Seph, Angeal & Genesis. It goes without saying that Rick Gomez is amazing as Zack & new VA def isn’t a patch on him. He can’t seem to convey mood through his voice very well & so it’s just the same tone & sound all the way through, as opposed to differentiating between happy, angry, sad, etc. just sounds like he’s not serious the whole time, when there are very dark moments in this story/emotions he feels. It’s the same tone for every mood. I hope someday they release DLC to be able to play CC reunion with the OG VA’s.

No offense Tyler Hoechlin is a good actor don’t get me wrong but he ain’t no Sephiroth in my book buddy, there’s only two true Sephiroth for me and that is none other than George Newburn (the OG Eng.VA) and Toshiyuki Morikawa (the only JP. VA) , there’s no more better voice actors in this world to voice Sephiroth other than these two legends of voice acting IMO

I think the Remake misses the mark on the way this line is delivered. The odds stacked against him Zack knows this is very much likely the end for him so he accepts it but with a defiance to go down fighting. The new one it's like no big deal I got this.... completely missed the emotional weight. I guess one could say the remakes director had the VA say it more confidently because he lives but I dunno I like the original much better.

Hear me out. The reason for new actors for every character is because we're playing in an alternate timeline. So everyone is different. All of the old VA are in their original timelines and have already lived through their fates/destinies. Reunion will have a secret ending which will lead into Rebirth.

That's a great explanation but it's not true my friend. Why did they keep the original voice actors in Japanese if that was the case. The Remake is not an alternate timeline. It's just a new timeline with the same characters. Think of it like End Game.
