Completely agree... its bullshit when you try them on in a shop and buy them online, the shops have to make money, if we don't spend money there they will all disappear and so with their service

Hey Jon I know you're an experienced rider and this is unsolicited advice but you really should consider moving your cleats back. I've been studying bike fit for awhile and all sorts of problems can arise from having them too far forward and nearly zero downsides to having them too far back. Thanks for the vids!

Ideally, whenever I've used new shoe set-ups, I'd mount them in the middle and play with fits. Ride miles, move them up, ride miles, move them back, etc..., but yeah, generally speaking, set almost all the way back is the starting point. I pretty much always end up just a few clicks back from center and never ahead of the midway point (although I'm sure for others, in front of the midway point might work out for them).

Good information about trying them on. I've used Fizik, Specialized & Vittoria and now ride with Lake CX332. Hands down the Lake shoe is superior to anything I've ever worn before. Pricey $ though. I bought them from a professional bike fitter who not only let me try and ride (indoor trainer setup) about 5 different shoes before choosing the CX332, but he also setup the cleats. They are a dream to wear. No hot spots or pressure points and because the uppers are made of leather, they get more and more comfortable as you wear them. I also use after market insoles selected by a bike fitter. I'm sure they make a big difference in my comfort also. Enjoyed your cleat transfer system; everyone seems to develop their own methods of "scientific" cleat fitting and adjustment. Good video, keep up the good work! Cheers!

I bought some Santic base layer stuff. Not bad. I do like my Shimano MT3 and MT5 shoes. Very comfy. Jon, you always seem to make boring topics interesting. Keep up the great work.

Jon, no biggie, but what you refer to as your high arch is actually your instep, and what you refer to as the instep is your arch (high or flat). The insole that Santic provided with the insert allows one to account for the amount of arch. Your instep is probably prominent (high and broad?) causing shoe closure discomfort. Bottom line - another interesting, well-done video/review. Thanks, and keep ‘em coming!

Just re-watched the vid - you did add text edits the first times you referred to “high arches” to correct yourself to mean “insteps”. No biggie, sorry I brought it up! 👍

Had those santic 4 years ago for team deal. I liked them a lot. Wore they almost every ride for 2 years till the dials broke. Didn’t want to replace so threw away. But I’d buy again.

I've owned 3 pair of Sidi shoes and every pair fit like crap. After wearing them on long rides I would take my shoes off and I couldn't walk because I couldn't stand on my feet from the pain. Then I tried Fizik. To narrow and caused hot spots and again the pain after long rides. Then I got a pair of Rapha lace shoes and I have never had an issue in two years. I now have a new pair of GIRO lace shoes and again no problems so far. I think I will stay with laces from now on.

Hello Jon. Try the "FIZIK Vento Stabilita" Shoe , because of your high arch. They have her own concept ( Stabilita ) to fit around the arches and it solves your issue. Cheers...

Sidi is my shoe, once you find that brand that works for you stick with it. I’ve owned many pairs over decades and they just work plus spare parts are available. I recommend putting some white lithium grease on the cleat screws when installing. Just good practice.

Thanks Jon. I too have a high arch and have had problems with a comfortable shoe fit. At present I’m using Northwave (which aren’t bad) , and at times Shimano shoes, which are a little sad for wear. However Bontrager shoes I’ve never tried. In fact I don’t think I’ve seen them in my local bike shops in Australia. Anyway thanks, I’ll try and track ‘em down. Being 69 I probably won’t need to many pairs….ha ha.

I really like my Shimano SPD Sandals and my Keen SPD Sandals.. They keep my feet firmly on the pedals and my feet stay dry and cool. They are the most comfortable biking shoes (Sandals) i have ever worn.. But Shimano and Keen ditched them.. So hopefully they bring them back..

Bro!! You are killing your feet!! Once you find the right shoes, you need a really good insole, especially for high arches. Here in Los Angeles we have stores called Road Runner Sports. It's a running store chain. For $80.00 they can make you a pair of custom insole that work like a charm! I'm sure you have something similar in AZ. Check it out. A good insole is KEY for good fit. You'll also put down more power. I promise you that.

Maybe the issue is not entirely the shoes but you not having aftermarket insoles that have a high arch support that are specific to your feet?
