For the knuckleheads with a tiktok attention span: the problem is the made in china product but its sold at a made in Sweden by blind nuns price.

Maybe I'm biased here because I'm Chinese, but not all Made In China items are the same quality (obviously), or cost. There are certain things made in China that have better quality than majority of counterparts made in Europe, because they were ordered with higher standards and cost a lot more to manufacture that your average Walmart crap.

This is always the counter argument when someone complain about made in china. You are right. However, Fjällräven position themselves a an eco-friendly company. Its not eco friendly to produce in china, and their margins are way too high. They only produce in china to make more money. I am Swedish and not biased against Fjällräven. I just wish they would do better.

Learned about this brand from an ol salty Brit Commando. Wore a set of their trousers on two 6+ month deployments. Held up in the desert, jungles, and alpine. Now as a civ I wear that same pair hiking, mountain biking, on SAR calls, and out for beers from time to time. No complaints here.

Yes, they market to the fashion conscious Patagonia crowd, but Fjalleraven gear does hold up. The KZfaqr Foresty Forest routinely climbs 11,000ft + mountains in their gear and basically lives out of their pants. Not all their gear is overpriced or made in china. I just picked up a jacket by them for $157 (shipped) that says "Made in Vietnam" on the tag. I bought it because I wanted to try their G1000 wax-able fabric and I didn't want another ultra light DWR product that is so thin, it will disintegrate in one season. So far, the jacket has been great and I plan to repair/ maintain it when it gets snags/rips and waterproof it when necessary.
@putrid_swamp_juice

I bought a g1000 jacket second hand because my old cotton anorakk is too small to have a sufficent insulating layers underneath when it's -20C. There are not many polycotton options out there and Fjellräven are one of the cheaper ones. "everybody" are doing these waterproof/windproof/breathable things that I don't want. I don't need water proof during winter and polycotton breathes a lot better and is much more durable.
@samueljlarson
@samueljlarson 4 ай бұрын
@@putrid_swamp_juice Exactly. G1000 is adaptable, repairable and won't wear out in one season. I bought mine one size large to layer underneath too and in the warmer months it is fine being a little baggy.

I havent found anything as good as their pants for breathability, I hate non-breathable clothing so their clothing is amazing for me. Goretex just turns into a sweat chamber for me, I use my pants everyday and if they dont get damaged from barbed wire then they are worth every penny. Expensive brands ripping from a tree branch is laughable, the little extra weight for durability is great.

They're made with a different pricing scale than most other outerwear. The idea is that the wax you add strengthens the entire garment, making it last a long, long, long time. Longer than it ever would have otherwise. Think 50+ years. Then add another few coats of wax and maybe double that. So that's what you're paying for. Plus if you do everything right, it stays feeling like a light cotton jacket that whole time. Ready to wear on it's own or to act like a water resisting, wind blocking skin you can wrap around all the other layers you feel like wearing. Which is more rad than you might think. Modular is good. That all said, you CAN definitely dupe Fjällräven stuff on the cheap if you can find any of the old BDU/M-65 style surplus jackets hanging around. Anything with a PolyCotton mix. You snag their $10 bar of Greenland wax from any REI, steal the wife's hair dryer (or better yet spring for a heat gun) and you've got yourself a greenland parka right there. Mine is their old style M-65 Field Jacket style that I snagged on the cheap from Ebay for $40. Thing is absolutely bullet-proof.

i buy it on ebay used most of the time from poland, ukraine, etc... The pants are tanks , i backpack and am on the ground , making fires, wet, dry, everything they never fail. I put a small hole in one pair (myfault slipped with knife) and they are ripstop, has not grown. Also love my trapper hat of theirs. I also have a sarek winter jacket that is fantastic for elk hunting and winter activities. Awesome products for me, no problems even with used gear. Built very well in my opinion, I care not country of origin if it holds up to what its supposed to.

I agree. I have several pairs of pants that I've used in pretty much all seasons scouring around in forests, mountains and cities. I've put holes in them from slipping with a saw or whatever but they've otherwise held up, even climbing over rocks. I have a jacket as well which does a really nice job keeping out wind. They're definitely expensive but in all the use I've given them, I've never had a failure and I have complete trust in the gear. Not to mention that it's just straight up comfortable. Buying used is the way to go and I love browsing REIs used section for them. I understand some of the hate but it's fantastic gear if you actually use it.

fjallravens very own mission statement is not ultimate wind and wet weather protection their companies niche is moderately protective eco friendly gear. Well, whatever the country of manufacture of a product says on the label, it does not necessarily indicate quality or non-quality. In reality, it does not matter where something is produced, whether it is produced in America, China, Europe, New Guinea, Madagascar...etc. If the best possible materials available at that moment were used for the production of something and strict control was implemented throughout the entire production process of the same , the final product must be of high quality. Many companies in their infancy and development produced extreme quality, that's how you get the consumer. When they grew so much, that is, their logos became famous and used to be synonymous with absolute quality. When the mass craze for their products starts to rule, then they can relax. And they use the excessive demand for their products to earn as much as possible, additional savings on the process of control and production. To allow themselves to relax in terms of quality, because they know human psychology. That people will be attracted by the former quality and even now by the famous logo, people will buy no matter what the price is.

I had this Gore-Tex lined windbreaker that I swore by in the late 90's and early 2000's. It was a holdover piece from my university athletic uniform, and it kept going until it finally wasn't waterproof anymore. These days my go to medium jackets (for any Autumn/Winter conditions at 10°F or above with minimal wind chill) are either a thick Carhartt hoodie, a Dickies duck cloth coat or a military surplus fleece jacket with the Belgian "puzzle" pattern on it. All of them were cheap.

After looking at G1000s, I don't understand the hype. You can wear any decently made pants for years, depending on what you do. For hard use like construction or farming, these aren't going to last any more than any other lighter cotton/polyester blend pants. I also think these stand out a bit too much and the cut is too "tight". Personally I just got a set of cotton/spandex Carhartt work pants. They look like any other work pants and don't make a statement, flex well, are comfortable and I'll be able to sit around a pine wood fire without having to worry about holes melting in my pants. Even better, they breathe more than the poly blend and are 1/6 the price with have features the G1000s don't have, like double canvas reinforced packets. If you are looking for options, consider any good pair of standard work pants. You can't go wrong.

Been running Fjallraven for hunting and everyday work. Never had a problem and if I do their warranty claim is top tier, for life. You don't get unlimited repairs with walmart unless you do the work yourself. Lastly, most outdoor companies use factories in Romania, Taiwan, Thailand and China that actually pay their employees well for the quality of work they do. No safety nets around these buildings for suic1d@l employees.

Did you tried it out calling "china quality"? I tried, have many things from patagonia & fjallraven both simillar lvl of quality and pricing. Cheaper things like for example northface or jackwolfskin - had much worst quality, worn or broke up really quick. I tried also arcteryx or cortazu

I already got burned with their Abisko tarp for $100....a respected reviewer glowed over it in their initial look, I jumped the gun and bought it because it was the last one in stock. And of course when the reviewer did the test episode the thing leaked. It has no taped seams, supposedly the thread swells when wet and prevents leaking. Just bs though. It's just an expensive wind block until I can seam seal the heII out of it.

China makes Apple products that are high end...it all comes to quality control, and from the Fjallraven products I own I cannot complain about the quality. Lots of people slam Apple about the Apple tax, but one cannot deny that their product just works, while non-Apple products have their struggles. The only thing that I struggle with can be the sizing with Fjallraven, it has its challenges, but never had exchange issues

As one who has always had to and actually prefers to operate on the lower end of the budget scale this brand has always been farrrrrrr out of my reach I’ll say this, it looks cool. And they may be good but there others just as good and or better in my opinion and cost waaaaay less.

I've been buying there trousers for ages. and they last for ages. The only time I had to stop wearing some was after I had put on weight. I've decided to bite the bullet and just purchased a smock no 1. Yes it was very expensive, but it's very robust. I expect it to last longer than me to be honest. It was made in Portugal not China. Incedentally, some chinees products are very good. look at DJI for example.

Couple of fair observations, FWIW. Many major manufacturers have contracts over in China (some that aren't so visible, open or obvious about it, for that matter); it's all about design (first and foremost) and contract SLA for the actual manufacturing quality and specs. Reality is being "Made in China" is what being "Made in Japan"was back in the 70's (selectively, give or take) -- and nobody questions the durability, quality or longevity of my 2018 Toyota 4R in 2024. Fjallraven is an eco focused company. I'm frankly less concerned about this as many others (climate change ... blah, blah, blah) but this does drive a degree of innovation and reduction in PFC components that are ostensibly proven to be less than stellar for one's health. YMMV. To that point, I trekked the Scottish highlands a half a decade ago (for a couple of weeks) and sported a Fjallraven eco-shell that was a daily tank. Biggest standout was (apart from the shell functionality) how remarkably quiet it was compared to Gore-Tex. Still looks and wears like new today (2024). Amazing shell. Finally, the value quotient for Fjallraven is, IMO, not there when you pay full price. You gotta get their stuff off-season (the majority of my finds) and/or heavily discounted for a killer ROI. Again, YMMV and to each his/her own.

Fair point 😂😂😂😂 I only own a fleece and this was gift. Both Patagonia and Fjallraven are all eco hippy and have some nice stuff, but with nice stuff I don’t mean material but more cord or zipper placement. Having said that they heavily over charge and it is possible to have someone sew stuff for you to spec for a little more. For my day trips working on a fleece version of the m44 field jacket but with back pack shoulder protection. Basically Monty style, nice pockets but modern materials.

I got myself, after a lot of 'research', a Solo Stove Campfire. It was the time, when they did crowdfunding, so they made a video showing 'their' machines, stating they had the money for the necessary machines together so one could order now...... I, dumb as I am, thought some real US heavy duty quality might be worth having a go on it - and who wouldn't give a try on some US made stuff, produced by skilled, very hard working American professionals. When the parcel arrived and I opened it I was greeted by a little chit indicating: MADE IN CHINA
