and I don’t deny Justin Bieber’s influence, I just don’t think it’s been THAT significant.... and yes, before this is mentioned ‘Despacito’ was already rising before Justin Bieber so it’s not fair to credit him entirely, but he did help introduce it to a WIDER english audience which resulted in another Latin Pop takeover, which is arguably his biggest credit of the past decade in pop music
is Justin Bieber an essential pop star? His complicated pop reign, let’s discuss

Also for the people in the comments saying, Justin Bieber was the first artist to be discovered from the internet he wasn’t. Adele, Lana Del Rey, Owl City, Calvin Harris, Soulja Boy, Sean Kingston and so many more were. The Myspace era birthed a lot of music stars long before Justin Bieber was on KZfaq. He was one of the firsts to get big on KZfaq though. And that’s something that can’t be taken away from him.

justin bieber's demise is proof that the world is tired of male pop stars who make no effort to make interesting music. mediocre lyrics over an old r&b beats isn't going to cut it anymore just because the guy singing it is hot. this is why the weeknd and harry styles were such big influences this year, I feel like they are the only male pop stars releasing right now that are actually interested in making good music, make a comprehensive record and tell a story; and not only because they feel like that's what someone with their status is supposed to.

I think one of the main reasons his music hasn’t evolved is because he’s very immature. If you watch the way he behaves with his wife, he behaves like a teenager. I feel like fame stunted his emotional growth thus his artistry. But idk there are probably other reasons.

Yeah similar to Ariana grande(I love her btw) his audience is literally still teenagers. When Beyoncé was Justin’s and Ariana’s age (26/27) she was releasing music that appealed to older target audiences and demographic. Everyone no matter the age new single ladies and halo. Ariana and Justin and many similar artists still have young teen audiences like 12-25

@@janeless5083 yea that's what makes this era of pop "icons" so lukewarm. Most of their listeners are really young, teenagers and younger. Beyonce, Rihanna, Katy, Lady Gaga, Maroon 5 and every other pop artist in the last era managed to gain both young/teenage audiences and adult audiences. I remember loving "Take a Bow" by rihanna just as much as my mom did. My mom wouldn't know any of Ariana's songs if I didn't show them to her.

@@janeless5083 Might also explain his ticket sales. Bare in mind, the Changes Tour was on sale before the US took COVID seriously, and those sales were dismal. The album didn't help, but further looking, the prices were ridiculous. He's charging like a well veteraned act who's audience grew up with him. $200 for back row arena seats and $100+ for balcony seats. Acts like Fleetwood Mac could get away with that, but Justin is nowhere near that level. Even downgraded to arenas, the sales don't look good at that price. Ariana meanwhile, had $70 tickets in the lower level for the Sweetener World Tour and was able to sell out while putting top tier albums.

@@hiltonvillegas951 i'm not sure what she means, but in my opinion he lives on a bubble for alot of reasons (btw i was a HUGE bieber stan from 2009 - 2013) - he started too young: its pretty obvious he didnt make the decisions of where his carreer would go towards to at the age 13-14, so from the beggining he was a product who never had the chance to make songs to express his true feelings, it was always about what sells - it wasnt his biggest dream ever to be a singer: his mom said on interviews that the videos on yt were for his family to watch or something, and when scooter braun invited him to meet and sign a deal his mom was very reluctant (proof he handnt really thought through the whole music career thing) so it isnt like he sees music as more than his job and something that just ended up happening in which he can just do whatever because his team and producers will come up with hit formulas. also, its pretty noticiable his guitar and piano skills havent improved a bit since 2009 i mean? how come one of the biggest artists in the planet NEVER took the time to improve his musical knowledge? he's very lazy and just doesnt care much about music theory - he's handsome: imagine being 15 and very cute, then 18 and very hot, he probably got a lottttt of girls back then and that changes one point of view, i mean, how many people would tell him no? - he isn't involved in political issues or is educated: he is a white priviledged boy, from canada, who finished high school while being a pop star knowing he would never need to use what he learnt in school... i mean, can you blame him for not being engaged in politics? he cant even spell properly srsly. besides, he's veeeery religious and that requires denying science and reality a bit - it's just the way it is: some people just arent geniuses or very smart, i think that's the case w him

When he got all that trouble and controversies I wasn't that suprised, not necessarily because he is a bad person but at one point everyone would snap if you're just a money bird in a cage. I also think he got a lot of yes men around him, never saying no to him and always saying he's right. You just grow up to be a selfish narcissist. Justin is not an artist. He’s a prop who never developed an artistic vision, and it’s too late now. I don’t think he knows HOW to conceptualize. Changes didn't feel sincere either and it came off to me as very rushed , almost like his team was like ' Justin, we need to make some cash...get in the studio'. Getting married didn't help matters. If you listen to Taylor, it just sounds like everything she does in mv, everything she says, she means it. I'm not his big fan, but I think a lot of people really don't connect to him because it just doesn't feel like he really do what he wants, more like actor :/

@Noor i didn't mean that his songs aren't deep, of course they are. I feel in Changes he's finally who he is but not with biggest hits of his career. yeah i agree, i feel like people can really connect to taylor because each album portrays what she’s going through in each phase of her life, and i think it works like that for most artists who write their own songs, like billie, ed sheeran, kendrick, adele, and the list goes on. even their most superficial songs, like shake it off, ME!, shape of you, bad guy, were written because they were feeling something real that needed to be written about. but i can’t connect to justin while listening to love yourself, for example, cause even though it’s a “deeper” song, he doesn’t mean what he’s singing, he didn’t write it. i know he does write, but he’s a hit artist so he doesn’t really care if he’s singing about something real or about someone being “yummy”, or if the lyrics actually mean something.

He references that in the video, the point being if you take Justin Bieber out of the equation you only erase people discovered that way such as Shawn Mendes or Cody Simpson, but would the music industry lose anything? Absolutely not, he hasn't created anything to last or to really make a dent in the industry, and even if he was the first artist to be discovered off of youtube (which he wasn't) that wasn't something he did, other people did that for him, it could've been anyone else, and that's the point. In the end, he is just one of the millions of people who are able to sing, but he brings nothing new to the table and honestly never has. Nobody ever addresses this, so I'll just come out and say it. Being a teen heartthrob, and then getting married at the age of 24 to a woman who the general public was barely aware of, can take a toll on your career. It's almost career suicide in a way, imagine heartthrob Harry Styles getting married at the moment, it would not benefit his career AT ALL. This may be a reach, but considering the way him and his team try to involve his wife in all of his career projects, it's clear that they believed this marriage would bring his career more attention. However, it's not serving any purpose at all. That was just another aspect I wanted to point out, hopefully his fans don't come in here and start yelling at me.

Bieber was one of those manufactured artistes that didn’t really earn the fame or the fan base. He was the youngest pop artiste for a very long time without major competition in the child star category and so it was easy to give him songs that appealed to a pre-teen and teen audience that could be pushed with the machine he had behind him The changes album showed that in a new era of pop music when he has to fight to be on the charts... he can’t do that naturally... he’s not a writer like Taylor who can write something that charts just based on sheer talent... he doesn’t know his sound like Rihanna who can take any song and make it her own... he’s not Drake who can hop on to underground trends and make them mainstream... As a hip hop fan and pop fan i feel that the difference between Justin and drakes career trajectories. Is that drake worked harder or had more resilience than Justin did. Drake only took one break in his hole run and by the time he did it made sense. When he came back he made scorpion and gods plan. Sending him to a new level no longer just a pop star. But more in the league of michael jackson or elvis presley both top of their time. But Justin in the middle of his run stopped and i say justin was in a better poison than most of his pop peers. Because he was the top of the new generation regardless if he rapped or not with a timeless die hard fan base. If you look at the analytics kzfaq.info/get/bejne/l5mna6xpx9XHj30.html he was about to pass into that realm of MJ and elvis after Purpose. Most pop acts debuting in 2005-10 era such as Miley, katy, selena gaga, Justin, nicki(ik she's a rapper but she has had a massive impact on pop) obv aren't as successful as they were before. From that batch only taylor and rihanna still enjoy the gp's support mostly because as honest pointed out they spent time crafting a legacy for themselves. Pop always has been a very fast-changing industry with new acts every year and unless you have something new to present you can be easily replaced.

Changes didn’t seem like it came from a place of creativity and authentic desire to attempt a new genre or style of music. He knows that the new wave of popular music will be hip-hop and R&B-oriented, so his new album feels like a cash-grab on that and it shows. Other than that random “Lolly” collab song, Justin has done nothing else that would be remotely that style. The difference between him and people like Ariana Grande is that Ariana channels so much passion and much of herself in her music-she’s been branding herself as a pop singer with an R&B twist arguably since the beginning of her career. Justin was always the bubblegum one-man boy-band artist and this transition into superficial-level music seems rocky and inauthentic. In a way, I’m glad that this is the case because I don’t want people who are talented but aren’t passionate about their job to be successful anyways. He’s had a good run and he might as well use this time to think about what kind of music he wants to execute and create a more interesting narrative around his life.

Justin paved the way for a lot of artists. People trashed changes because of yummy, they never gave it a chance. Holy and lonely are very personal songs, his performance of lonely shows how great of an artist he really is. Judged by one album isn’t fair. "My World" and "My World 2.0" started Bieber's career as a teen idol. "Under the Mistletoe" was a Christmas album. "Believe" was more or less R&B-inspired and he tried to blend it with pop. He switched the directions entirely to R&B through "Journals". After several controversies, "Purpose" was the re-birth of Justin Bieber, which resulted as his best commerically-performing work - shook the internet and occupied a large bulk of music chart real estate. "Changes" goes back to R&B, after 5 years of being off major spotlight, the album was mostly about the love for his wife. In 2021, he returned back to his pop roots with "Justice" - which is one of the best albums he has ever done. It's soaring up high in charts, widely loved and clearly testifies how much Justin's music has evolved since "My World" or "Believe".

I actually kind of disagree that he didn’t have a huge impact in pop music. He has started many trends and I believe that he is one of the main reasons why EDM, and Latin music is so popular. It’s also not fair to say that he doesn’t take risks because he has pretty much explored every different music genre in his career like Latin, country,r&b, electro, dubstep, indie, and even hip hop tracks, so I definetly wouldn’t say he lacks range either. The main problem that I had with changes was it lacked creative maturity, and lacked originality as well. Some of the songs felt very cheap and generic. The lyricism was quite desperate and at times cringy, but some tracks had some very poetic and meaningful lyrics like habitual, confirmation, and at least for now. Yummy was a very poor choice for the lead single, as it was one of the worst tracks on the album. I would’ve preferred forever, or get me which were two of the best sounding and innovative tracks in my opinion. Lastly the album felt very inauthentic. It felt very forced and controlled, and I just didn’t feel his heart was in it as much as it was in purpose, where I felt every single word he was singing. I don’t think that he was entirely in control this time around and the label had a lot to do with this album. Sadly this was a flop era, but I definitely have hope for him in the future because I know he is capable of making incredible music.

Journals didn’t really“flop” his label just didn’t push it coz they wanted him to do pop and not r&b, Journals is still talked about today and aged very well. And also ppl need to understand that after purpose era his health has been extremely bad and he’s obviously gonna put that first over anything. He made Changes whilst battling a disease etc. However rn he’s healthy so hopefully the album he’s working on will deliver. His last 2 singles were good Imo and I like how he’s starting to make deeper music. So I think he’s heading in the right direction

In my opinion Journals is his bad worked you got to remember Journal didn’t Flop, but during that ERA that’s when Justin was the most hated person in the industry. He was getting booed at awards, but I’m not saying he didn’t cause a lot of that cause he did but that’s when nobody wanted to deal with him that’s was his Bizzle days. Lol when people say I miss the Bizzle Justin that talking about the Journals ERA when he was doing R&B. Even though purpose was his most or one of his most successful Albums just is his most personal creative authentic Album and in my opinion his only albums that’s really a classic even though I do like Purposes. But all and all I respect your opinion

Whether journals flopped or not, its still almost completely forgotten. Changes will also be in that category in a year or two. Also, sickness could affect him making music but not the quality of music. I'm in no way a hater, I've been his fan since somebody to love.

I honestly only remember Justin Bieber as a 2010-2011 trend. All i remember from him is Justin Bieber bracelets, Justin Bieber necklaces, Justin Bieber dolls, and the teenage girls crying over him. I feel like that's why his music is flopping lately, because he became an actual arist and not a teenage girls' brand. And i think the reason why no one takes him seriously as an artist is not just the 2010-2011 era, but because he's trying TOO hard to move away from that era.

I am not a Justin Bieber fan, I am a music industry guru, and I must say that this is all a load of misinformation and is overly opinionated. This is extremely subjective and bias, yet its framed to be from the perspective of the general public. "Baby" brought about fandom that hadn't been seen since the *NSYNC, Backstreet, JT days, BELIEVE was as big of a pop album as Teenage Dream, it brought about an entire box-office hit movie following it's release. Justin is no standout singer, however, he's made a huge, undeniable impact on the music industry, he is the blueprint for Shawn and a whole shitload of new young fresh-faced singers. Warner, UMG, and Sony sign 100,000 knock off Justin Biebers a year, HOPING to get close to duplicating his unprecedented mass and appeal and impact. Your just young @honest , you were probably like 6 when Baby came out.

i actually feel like justin's music is underrated. like yall dont take him seriously as an artist. for example, journals which is his best album(imo) is very underrated, he experimented with a new style of music and yall paid him dust, so why would he do that again. and changes isnt a bad album, it's not his best yes but yall make it sound like its God's punishment to earth(lol) with all that said i do feel like he has to improve with his music, make an album that forces everybody to take him seriously as an artist, like he needs his own ANTI. but this is just my opinion also i dont know who needs to hear this, but hating justin bieber is NOT a personality trait

I hate him, but saying his talent is not all that all is such an ignorant thing. He is actually very potential to be one of the best singer, because he has talent (singing, dancing, multi-instrumentalist). He is much much better than Shawn "O STAGE PRESENCE" Mendes. He just needs to work with right producer (Max Martin or Jack Antonoff or Ryan Tedder) and he needs to stop making pop/R&B trap. Bring back the pop-dance/acoustic!!

I don't even think Justin has potential. He's always just had a team of writers to make his songs for him, the only thing he brings to the table is a good singing voice, which honestly, isn't very unique. He's made some iconic hits, but I don't think he has or ever will make genuinely good music.
