We have been riding all around India and Nepal on a motorcycle which we have bought in Bangalore, but since we are foreigners we cannot register the motorcycle on our name. Ladakh was our last adventure in our 9month ride and to be declined to go further Leh is completely stupid. As you said as bikers with our own bikes we won't rent another bike apart from our own! They are destroying their own economy by doing this. They should close 50% of the bike rental shops in Leh as there are too much if they want money. It's stupid having 1000 shops when there is only a demand of 200 shops and then they put their anger on us local/foreign tourists!

Share this video to that MP of Ladakh on twitter and tag him and other authorities. Let's come together and end this illegal activity🚫

Yes they do soo even to the locals also,This year i have visited ladakh and i have to came back from the same post becoz i was riding my cousin's bike.They just said get the jk10 registered bike other than that they were not listening. It was really a pain going back. I hope that next year they will not stop me coz i will get there on my own bike. And itz a request to my other biker brothers too.

There's similar rule of Pehalgham taxi union, you have to take separate taxi to visit areas of Pehalgham. But if it's a white number plate then no issue, no one will stop you.

You're Right to move freely throughout any part of India is guaranteed under Part III. Article 19(1-a) & Article 21 no public or private authorities can violate those rights. Please approach the police & collector's office informing them about your situation. It is unfortunate that no one has till yet approached the honorable High court of Jammu and Kashmir otherwise this Matter would have been resolved much earlier.

They are not union or a legal union but they are just a bloody group of people who has business in bike renting ! You should have told police or the tourism department for this issue ! This bike renting money makers need to be screwed up !

With all due respect Zoheb, I don't believe that taking only your own bike or renting only from those people is the right advice for this situation because it's not a rule of law or people elected government representatives asking for this. As per the law, it's in everyone's right to travel freely and no one is breaking the rules. This is also not called a union, the right term is Mafia. Unions negotiate for better terms, these guys threaten people like they own the land. What they are doing is a criminal offence and while supporting locals and contributing to the local economy is what every traveler would be happy to do, I would urge riders not to rent from people who threaten riders and use illegal means to intimidate others because it would be giving into what they are doing.

The most amazing part of the ladakh trip is traveling from manali to Leh fully loaded and feel the riding on the beautiful trans Himalayas which is missing in case of travelling through flight. So, the most fun and adventure part of the ride is gone in case of flight. The decision of the union will make Ladakh a poor territory of India because 90% people want a road trip and another 90% don't want to use their own vehicle just because wear & tear and risk of damage. So, accordingly like me ( we are backed out for Ladakh-8 people) because we cannot bear cost of teo bikes at the same time. Simultaneously, people like us will stop visiting Ladakh and find Spiti as a alternative and not to visit ladakh. So, with this, the homestays/ restaurants/ hotels/ shops/taxes will go empty and people in Ladakh has already deployed their resources by making various investments for a profitable business. They have to ultimately keep them running on losses and a day they will shut. Shops cannot be able to earn potential tourists they have lost. New investments in hotels restaurants will go useless and turned into a loss unit and will make the association more poor and unable to sustain. Then, government will come into action and again allow the self drive vehicle then the recovery starts with fear. No growth, years wasted, resources wasted, economic losses. Only by the Poor thinkers sitted in Taxi Union. Clients are always your god. kehte hai customer bhagwan hota hai or tum log bhagwan ko ghar nahi bula rahe. Toh bhai ladte raho or sabke dreams kharab kro.

Leh Taxi union is a pretty old story. Its not just bike stopping they have even stopped the good trekking communities there which were actually doing good work to preserve landscapes like chadar. They have squandered everybody off. Read about it on the internet and you'd know that they are mafias.

Anyone who encounters them and not allowed to pass through should register a complain against them. If the police does not register, which I think will be the case, enough people approaching the police will definitely have some effect. They should be taught that imposing private rules on public roads is not OK

Outside bikes owner earns lot of money but we ladakhi mostly depend on tourist but if you have personal bike then there is no problem all are most welcome and I have seen many manali bikes owner they do leh ladakh tour without permit.. If he do permit he won't get because in leh ladakh only local bikes rented are allow not outside rented bikes..

If people don't visit Ladakh just for one season they will understand the importance of tourist because tourism is the main source of income for the people of Ladakh. Then they will understand that forcing people to rent motorcycle from them is not helping them instead they are losing customers. And people will gradually lose interest in visiting Ladakh. Spiti is way better than Ladakh in these terms. I've visited Spiti valley this year and trust me it's much better because there is no problem creating bike union over there.
