Until Manchester United as a club understands that a footballing structure/system supporting the manager any manager behind the scenes, we won't change. The better question is how did anyone think this was going to start well. What evidence was there that they were going to start off this year better? I stress again, this club did not address their needs following last season. Let's take the off field stuff off the table and look at the data. United finished 3rd last year in the table. They won 1 trophy, got back in the Champions League and lost in another final to the best team in the league. That was an established fact. In evaluating the stats, they accomplished all of that with a team that finished tied for 3rd in Goals Allowed with 43, was 1st in Clean Sheets with 17. In further scrutinizing those numbers, that 43 included a 2 game where they gave up 11 goal(Brentford, Liverpool) and if one adds the away game at City (6), that's 17 of the 43 in just 3 games. Meaning the other 35 games they gave up 26 goals. With 17 Clean Sheets their opponents didn't score in nearly half their games. Offensively, Rashford had 30 goals in all competitions but only matched his career best with 17 which was 6 or 7th in the League. Their entire Goals Scored was only 6th best in the league and 3 more than 10th place Fulham. To me that screams the 1,2,3 priority was GOALS SCORING. Defending and moving the ball WASN"T the ISSUE. They tied with City for the 3rd most SHOTS and were 2nd in the League with SHOTS ON TARGET. They had 1 more S O T than Manchester City yet finished 36 goals behind them and 30 goals behind Arsenal. If all of that didn't clearing point to the biggest and most obvious area to change , getting a top notch goal scorer, like Harry Kane, nothing would. Once Richard Arnold decides that dealing with Daniel Levy was hard and they didn't get the obvious, this was going to happen. Instead of fixing what was wrong ten hag decided to get a midfielder and change his GK. Apparently because the GK wasn't good enough with his feet. Which is like changing your top goal scorer because he's not good at tackling. Neither one of those makes sense. And this whole ""playing out from the back" thing is illogical. Why? Because wouldn't it make more sense to start play out from closer to the offensive end, like in the midfield. Why would you want to spend any time in your own end next to you GK. That's not where any team wants to be. The Pep effect has poisoned most foottball Managers. Except he's already moved on and got himself the best goal scorer in the world, while everyone else is screwing around with ball playing Goalkeepers. United have a friendly fixture list coming up with the likes of Burnley, Sheffield United and Crystal Palace in the few League games. Ten Hag needs to do what he did last year, which was change the play to get the best out of the players instead of making the players do what he prefers. He's got 8 months and 33 games to figure it out. He should be able to do it, he did it last year.

To say that about Eriksen is ridiculous, he's one of the most creative midfielders we've ever had. Him and Bruno will always play in midfield together, McTominay cannot be near that team. It has to be Casemiro, Eriksen and Bruno or buy a new young DM as competition for Casemiro

Utd's midfield always get overrun by good teams as they are always outnumbered. But Utd are generally ok with that because they want to play in transition. But this means Utd rarely control games in the way Arsenal, City or BHA do.

If there is an overload in midfield its high risk to play your 6, so they stay patient and draw players near them, but ignorant people will say hes "lazy" or "not good enough", when every top midfielder does it(i.e. Rice, Rodri, Fernandinho, Partey, Fabinho, Thiago). If Mctominay leaves, which he should, his quality will shine through, and you will feel like idiots.

No structure, no plan. Managers have been brought in, been paid off when sacked, players not being sold for any profit due to poor performances and crazy united contracts. It's all about the executives. Seen it Arsenal. With bad executives, owners look bad. The issue with united is they don't seem to have any accountability/structure above the manager. It amazes me how many people miss the obvious issue with the Man Utd players. Just watch them play. There is no movement from the players off the ball, and when most of the players do have the ball they try and give it to someone else as soon as possible. Nobody wants to take the initiative except Rashford, Bruno and Antony. Why? The reason is stupidly obvious. They are absolutely exhausted, mentally more than physically. They were running on fumes for basically the whole second half of last season, giving everything they had and more, and they haven't had time to recover. On top of that they have had Greenwood, then Ronaldo, then the sale, then Sancho, then Sancho again. They are just being hit repeatedly from all sides. Nobody can play well when they are that drained. They have the players to make a really excellent team now. They just need to not be exhausted, and then they will do fine.
