My one issue with the so called 50/50 players in outbreak and round based is that Treyarch made note of that, when Outbreak was the thing being updated and round based was as dry as could be with no content. Outbreak continually received updates, so we round based players would check it out and play it, rather than the months old die maschine or firebase z at the time. There is a crossover there, and many of us round based players just played Outbreak for the newest content

Playing Der Riese always makes me think of winter, a blanket on the couch, cold outside, warm inside. Excited to come home from work, turn the fire on, take a shower, get on the couch and hit those high rounds. That’s the feeling I want from cod zombies. Zombies was a simple formula, just being fun was enough. Transit was open world enough for zombie fans

Dude how are you this good? As a zombies fan that started given up on zombies around BO4 and Cold War, this video is very, very well done.

We don't know if 50% / 50% was the case since it was just something said by treyarch, not proved with specs map or something. It might be correct tho, but just at the season they observed that, because it was a new mode that everyone wanted to try and that was almost mandatory if you wanted to do the camo grind quickly. What I see, not just asking my friends but in every single twitter / reddit poll out there saying round based zombies vs outbreak, is that the 1st one wins by a lot. For me it's kind of obvious why: one is just the warzone map with zombies and some objectives from spec ops, the other one is handcrafted maps with EE, protagonist interacting, etc.

As a hardcore zombies player since World at War. I loved Outbreak. It was something new and fresh. The thing that ticks me off is how easy games have been made these last couple of years. I remember when games actually challenged you. When you absolutely cheered after you finally got that weapon or finished that quest or finished an easter egg then got a cool cutscene. But everything is DLCs or easy content now. Im a firm believer in earning rather than just getting. Food for thought.

Milo I just wanna thank you for being one of our voices in this community. A lot of us in the community have not been happy with the current state of zombies and we appreciate someone with a larger platform speaking a lot of these concerns for us

This is honestly the best introspective look at the Zombies Community in a video I have ever seen. Milo literally breaks down and explains how it all works in tandem rather than one piece in a vacuum, which is literally not possible. I would even argue that this is a glimpse as to the inner workings of the gaming industry from the perspective of the companies. With how it affects the consumers (us/people who enjoy the content of the games) and he is absolutely right with his point on how people have been affected by this situation. This is an amazing video, Milo!

The glory days of Black Ops 1-3 were sooooooo amazing. I loved the EE,s and game play and I can probably speak for all the Hardcore Round Based players out there that know if it's not like old zombies... IT'S GOING TO SUCK THIS YEAR!!!

This problem of the "Attack those who Disagree problem" is not just in the zombies community. Brother it is everywhere, It is a plague that has befallen our modern life.

This just over* 1 hour video nearing 100,000 views in under 24 hours is an amazing testament to the amount of people intrigued by Zombies as a core experience that Call of Duty provides. I truly hope I’m missing something, and this new iteration of zombies is good and enjoyable for me as a self proclaimed hardcore round based zombies enjoyer. I will be trying it, likely grinding camos (I also grind MP camos in COD). And I miss more than anything, zombies content focused on an active Call of Duty that’s currently in season.

It is absolutely important to acknowledge that there is an entirely new group of people out there who have yet to experience the mode and should have an opportunity to be catered to, however, to completely abandon the people who basically built your entire mode up and have been loyal for over a decade now is wrong. When the new players who joined in Bo2 or Bo3 or even Bo4 joined and left, the loyal players were the one who continued to purchase the DLC and the gobblegum and keep the game relevant.

This is spot on. I’m a hardcore round based player and have been since bo1. The focus on outbreak is part of the reason I’ve spent so much time doing dungeons and raids in destiny 2. It’s the closest thing to a hardcore zombies experience I can find. Thanks for the video milo! Excited to watch your content on the game

I'm definitely on the hard core round based side, not overly hyped, but I'm willing to give the mode a try even though it probably won't feel like the zombies experience I prefer (solo round based high rounds and easter eggs)

You're right; The Marketing alone shot my interest in the game mode. Black Ops 4 made me lukewarm towards Zombies and CoD as a whole, and I don't trust Treyarch enough anymore to buy a game until I know for CERTAIN the mode is good. I'll wait for the next Black Ops game to see if we're getting Round Based zombies, but MW3 is separate and could be completely Outbreak like.

I’m in that old building player category. One of my happiest moments was completing the moon Easter egg. I can’t remember which game but I also had fond memories of the versus mode within the transit map. Friday night zombies with a friend. Oh how the time flies

Milo, you hit it right on the head. I'm a casual player of COD. Love zombies story. Putting in only an hour or two a week. Some Easter eggs are hard for me but still love playing the game. Cold war helped me get my confidence up on zombies. I enjoy both sides. Enjoy the videos you do and keep them going!

If we had a stand alone zombies game like we all been asking for you could do out break and round based onslaught time-based objectives I think you could do so much with a stand alone zombie game the round based you can have old style Easter eggs and different kind of maps more like Black ops 3 + Black ops 2 and older style round-based kind of maps the newer stuff could go and outbreak and onslaught and you could do grief they could bring grief back

I like Outbreak's open world feel but I love the trapped feeling of being in a traditional zombies map that is just full of secrets.

Advertising this mode towards hardcore round based zombies and by saying it has pack a punch, perks and a Ray gun is like advertising high end cars to car enthusiasts by saying “It has a steering wheel, windows and 4 wheels!!!! Aren’t you excited!!!!!”

As someone who despises all battle royale games because I hate permadeath mechanics when all I want to do is spawn shoot people and then respawn when I die because just playing the game is fun and I don't care if I die 37 times in an mp match. At the same time I am a CoD veteran. Been playing the game since the WaW days and although might not be the best zombies player out there I can still comfortably make it to round 30 on most maps before I start feeling pressured (My highest is somewhere in the 80s on Die Maschine trying to get the round 100 dark ops challenge). Controversially though I think Bo3 is my most disliked zombies experience because I didn't like the more lovecraftian direction the story went in. Bo1 is by far my favourite. It just feels more pure I guess is the best way I can describe it?

There are alot of factors to this problem. The main one is hardcore zombie fans (like me) don’t like change. Not because of the fear of changing something that works, but the fear of changing something that will not improve upon what worked in the first place just to appease to a wider audience. Then once the company succeeds in bringing in a new (casual) audience, then said audience states that they love this new iteration of zombies without even playing or knowing what it used to be or rather what it’s supposed to be. This is where hardcore fans start getting their pitchforks. Then that spawns the fear that this new iteration of zombies will be the present and future and the hardcore audience will refuse to accept that. The company (Activision) should be at fault for changing everything into a “warzone” environment and creating such a toxic community.

I think it's also about the goal for the day. Like we enjoy both depending on who we are running with. My nephew is 13 and we JUST this summer did AW Exo Zombies and so round based doing the Easter egg was exactly what we wanted. Then we did BO4 EE. (Thank you for those guides!!!) But when he's not with us we also love running some Outbreak

IMO, Treyarch should just try consulting people like Milo and content creators that honestly know the game mode and what we as fans want more then them at this point

I resonated with saying that I was a hardcore RBZ enjoyer when you said that you probably looked up KZfaq videos about cyphers and the lore, my favorite part as a kid was going to bed and watching lore explaining vids on all the radios and EE’s

The one thing i’m wondering if there will be so many people on the map at once won’t there be heavily difficult obstacles to the steps of the easter egg ? Or will everyone take part in the same steps? I can see how its possible but i just think it’ll be difficult with everyone on top of eachother and getting in the way where as having the 4 player team will make it easier to communicate, work together and accomplish the objective still grounded hope but it just wonders in the back of my mind

The problem is not that there is no roundbased, it’s the lack of original zombies maps

I think Treyarch might keep zombies roundbase narrative driven game mode to black ops related games and they will try introducing this warzone zombies kind of mode to modern warfare with an alternate kind of story I believe.

I know us hardcore fans of the original mode aren't the majority when you include all the causal players, but I would literally pay like $1000 for a standalone game that focuses on the original formula.

I’m hardcore, but personally I like Outbreak for *different* reasons. However if Outbreak never appeared again and we only got roundbased, I probably wouldn’t care. I would rather treyarch put their energy into *evolving* the mode and *adding* to the mode we already had, instead of outright changing it’s identity as a whole. No amount of Zombies assets in outbreak will make Roundbased players like it more. And that’s just a hill I’m willing to die on.

I view the round based who don’t like cold war as a bigger group than that personally

in the multiplayer aspect honestly this cod looks good compared with mwii, but it's just gonna be the vanguard integration into warzone all over again. Nicki minaj + soccer players + halloween skins (evil groot gaia) running around with their 5 attachment shotgun bundles. Nah that sucks, it should've been a normal call of duty. It' shouldn't include zombies, instead it should have an alternative mode like back in the day they rotated and did e.g extinction in ghosts while treyarch developed their zombies for their turn. Nowadays they include zombies to milk the zombie playerbase since they know those players will buy it to not miss out on zombies.

It's not profitable to the company to worry about putting certain resources into player retention when they can invest in player onboarding and get more of a return. This may be what they be cashing-in on?

Like I remember playing Kino the first time. I literally bought the shotgun off the wall and camped behind the table next to the door that took you to jug. But since then I’ve met a lot of people and a lot of amazing memories, fact I’ve even got a channel dedicated to the game mode. So overall zombies has shaped a lot of things. I do hope that we do have round based maps again or even do what Cold War done by having the two.

I think this video really does help an old timer like me (been playing since BO1). I know there’s no round based but Treyarch treating the old school zombie players like we are idiots was irritating when they talked about common things like perks and pap. I’ll have to see more to give a better judgement toward it for the zombies.

I’ll be honest. Speaking from a person who grew up with BO1 & BO2 Zombies; I like round based and outbreak almost equally. The problem I’m having with MWZ is them barely listening to any quadrant you have on the board. There are loads of great changes and additions Cold War made and it seems like Activision wants to implement the ones that will be easier to monetize the community as a whole. The fact they basically neutered solo, and are modeling this after DMZ; they’ll likely be milking our wallets dry with micro transactions. Just my thoughts

Why can't people just understand that, those ''Easter Eggs'' are just missions to continue Zombies story, Ascension, Shangri La, Moon and BO2 Zombies and BO3 zombies had only missions that required certain things to be done to progress in Zombies story, this was a very indirect form of telling story. Call of Duty Zombies hasn't had a proper Easter Eggs for a very long time, and what I mean with Easter Eggs, is random interesting stuff that has nothing to do with Zombies mode itself.

This was an awesome video. I really enjoyed the laying out of everyone’s perspectives and I feel like no one else really acknowledges people outside the hardcore round based enjoyers as it were. I’m somewhere in the middle between casual and hardcore. I enjoy round based and outbreak. So I’m in the camp of seeing how it goes. I’m giving it a good shot because it looks cool. For some reason, I think that the best zombies moment (and probably the only one that was THAT exciting) we had in the last 5 years or so, was that journal from Samatha in Cold War, talking about seeing a lost boy in her dream. Idk if anyone else remembers this, Milo made a video about it as well and it was, I think, the closest thing we 've had to the old zombies feeling, especially about the story. I remember it gave me so many goosebumps. Other than that, maybe Richthofen's final reveal in Cold War was an exciting zombies moment? But tbh, we saw that coming from a mile away. I'm pretty sure these are the only top tier zombies moments we've had in zombies in the last 5 years at least and that's.. kind of alarming.

Loved this long video a lot Milo. I'm a hardcore player but knew straight away it wasn't RBZ so just getting anything zombies to tie us over till 2024 I'm all for it. Enjoyed dmz but got sick of the cheaters constantly!

As a former zombies fanatic, I can confidently say I am done playing zombies. Treyarch already made peak zombies in the black ops trilogy.

The thing is, I played Round Based and Outbreak in Cold war but massively preferred Round based and wouldn’t have bought the game for outbreak so how much weight does that cold war stat actually hold? 🤔 Is that an even number of hours played, or just counting anyone that played it once?

You explained everything so perfectly. This video was such a joy to watch. Hardcore round based enjoyer here, but I'm open to new experiences. If they can extract what made round based so fun and mix even a little bit of that in with the new stuff then I could see myself coping for another year

Thank you for making this but wasn't the whole thing with round based and outbreak being split in popularity just not really true at all? Wasn't that during the outbreak free weekends and wasn't outbreak being played by many to farm weapons? Wasn't the idea that outbreak was equally as popular as round based around a specific point in time rather than a general popularity over the course of Cold Wars life?

My favorite thing to do in zombies and my main replayability factor is making looking for group posts to help people do easter eggs and specifically help teach them the stuff in zombies and how to do smaller scale stuff as well like wonder weapons. So there's literally nothing for me in this mode

Couldn't you integrate round based zombies into the new zombie mode? For example you could go to some area and decide to take up a challenge. Then the area would become restricted and transform in a typical zombie map with rounds. This way you could please both groups.

Thank you for making this video Milo. I appreciate you trying to meld this zombies Civil War in the community. I love this community and have been apart of it for 10+ years and I’d go probably into the hardcore Outbreak community by your ruling standard. Even though I’ve played and commented on round based content for years I really like the idea of Outbreak and want to see more of that. I’m thinking the mode is actually going to be good and am giving it an 8/10 and it was honestly surprising to see you give it a 7. I saw CodeNamePizza’s early impressions of it and he gave it an 8 which was nice to see you both speaking positively about MWZ atleast early on so far. Hopefully soon this zombies civil war can die down and we can all just enjoy what we like instead of digging into each other. Much love man ❤️

I do agree with Milo on a lot of the things he is saying. One thing I would say from a HC RBZ player, who also enjoyed Outbreak for a more relaxed zombies experience, is that the main reason most HC RBZ players are unhappy is because in my opinion we haven’t had a really great RBZ experience since BO3. Cold War was nice but the EE were made too easy and diminished the grind and fun we had when hunting EE such as with Revelations. The second thing I would say, is that we feel let down from a story perspective, they introduced Richtofen and Sam being back in Cold War, but we have no real lead on if the story will be finished, much like the Chaos Story from BO4, we are left on a cliff hanger with no promise to get to see the end of the story, and I think most HC RBZ players truly miss the story telling and discovery we felt during BO3.

Seeing how people are playing OWzombies, takes me back to when DerRiese was considered a big and transformative map. 3 teleporters, Bowie knife, the Pap machine, the lore, how open everything was that you can shoot zombies way before they had a chance to attack the boards

The only way Activision is getting another dime from me is if they drop a new zombie map for Black Ops 3.

Holy damn you nailed it perfectly. I have know about zombies for years but didnt try it until cold war. And when i was presented the choice between stressful round base and bit more lax outbreak i chose outbreak. Then gradually i started with round base did all easters eggs(watched your guides duh) and then when forsaken came out i decided to try the previous zombs.

They should’ve forced all of us after 30 minutes to band together for one exfil and you either have the weapons to defend or you die and don’t make it on the exfil.. 30 player each doing they’re own thing to get guns. Then 1 exfil where we all 30 players defend for 15mins.. 15min of everyone holding the trigger down & watching each others backs till exfil lands… I’m talking Mustang & Sally trigger pull till I’m 10 seconds from a seizure or the exfil lands lol. That would be sick..

Something not considered for the outbreak hardcore are the people that like round based, but knew from the numbers that Outbreak was better for weapon xp for your time than round based.

It's so awesome that the last few years all Activision online services have been beyond dangerous for everyone to play, and yet they keep removing options to safely play the games. It's absolutely unreal that they are still such a large titan of a corporation because of the sheer incompetence and negligence.

You can segment it even more with the introduction of zombie mastery camos. Make a egg for grinders

I’m in the middle of both. I like round based due to the story and the ester eggs but I also like outbreak because of the free roam and different world bosses.

As someone who kinda fell off after black ops 4, I'm happy to see that people are still getting into something that was a huge part of childhood/ teenage years. For anyone who's going into MW3 for zombies I hope you enjoy it and find time to enjoy your hobby.

What are your thoughts on the fact they might be adding pvp to the zombies mode?? I am honestly against it. For me zombies is my happy place where i dont have to sweat hard against pvp demons, and i think it could actually ruin the mode. Would be curious on your opinion?

As a hardcore player all the way from Nacht, I really enjoyed the Cold War and outbreak experience. That being said, I think MW3 Z loses its “intimacy” with all the extra players. Personally I feel like I’m joining a lobby instead of investing my time with friends or a small amount of randos for up to hours. Round based has this unique team feel especially if you’re going to attempt a EE together. This zombies mode just gives me Travis Scott Fortnite concert vibes

I loved Outbreak, but having a time based, outbreak style mode as the only option at launch is not only a terrible idea short term, but as we saw with Vanguard, it will damage the game in the long run. Also, the devs CAN make it work given how many studios and devs have their hands on this game. Activision either won't let them or wants to focus on making every mode more like Warzone.

I appreciate what milo said about everything about CoD Zombies about what zombies means, the one thing that comes to is if milo is doing this already is how is he not working in the Treyarch Zombie Team? Milo has so many ideas for zombies and what the players wants for or in zombies. But I'm getting off topic, but I enjoyed listening to your thoughts and can't wait to hear more.

I hope it does well, am I sad that it’s not more like bo3? Kind of. But I hope it’s fun to hop into once and awhile. I felt like they lost the direction they had for bo3 long before this game but now I don’t think it will every be back. All I wanted was more boss fight like you found in zet but more mechanics base. Round base used to have objectives, but now it feel like they took tens steps back .

I think the biggest mistake that they made marketing wise was trying to say that this mode was for OG zombie fans. I say this as someone who considers himself to be in both the hardcore round based camp, but also the casual outbreak camp, AND a hardcore DMZ player. To me this mode looks awesome and will tide me over until we get round based back in 2024.

What a well articulated video. More of the community needs to see this, it addresses how each group feels respectfully, while showing all sides. As someone who’s been hardcore RB, and moved into the casual scene for either RB or OB, I’m just happy there’s more zombies content. This new generation will be making the same memories with this new zombies mode, just like we were a decade ago with round based. Zombies is a special mode. People will always cherish and defend what zombies was like *for them* when they first started. And that’s okay.
