This is a traditional dyeing process called chusen.
The fabric is dyed beautifully regardless of the front or back, and features a soft finish.

Very rustic methods, but beautiful results. Such care goes into every step. Great information!

If you asked Japanese high school kids to work at this factory for a couple of days instead of going to school, all of them would say “Yes”.

I don’t think I’ll ever afford buying new Japanese prints textile but I will definitely look for the alternatives in thrift stores. Such great process of printing that I never understand. Seems very complicated and hard. Makes me to question why we value the mass production cheap prints instead of traditional Japanese prints

I dont understand the process even after seeing the video.... but it looks very rustic and traditional. Does this method keeps the colours in forever without fading much?

Tenugui are multi purpose cloths. You can use them as hand towels, something to wipe off sweat, tie it into a makeshift pouch if needed, and so on. They dry quickly, especially because they aren't hemmed.

Japanese tenugui are used like towels and handkerchiefs. Tenugui has a beautiful pattern, so some people decorate it like a tapestry.
