This video introduces the process of making Japanese Washi Paper.
In 2014, Mino Washi Paper was registered as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage.
Japanese Washi Paper has a long history, and the Shosoin Storehouse holds the oldest surviving sheet. With the spread of paper, demand for high-quality Mino Washi paper increased, and it received the highest reputation as a high-grade paper for shoji screens.
In modern times, it was introduced overseas through the Vienna and Paris World Expositions.
Takanori Senda was fascinated by the beauty of handmade washi paper at a hands-on washi-making workshop and decided to become a craftsman.
Traveling to London, Peru, and many other places in the world, he feels a new sense of value and continues to strive daily to bring washi into the world of art.

I looked in your shop for the Mino washi paper, but can't find blanc paper, there's a beautiful art work but I wish to make my own art on that special hand-crafted paper. Always had a love for paper and this is so carefully made ❣

I could not even get the website to load 😿I finally found the website by doing a google search, but as Rain said only pre-painted or made items could be found not the plain washi paper.

The appeal of Japanese paper should be reconsidered in an era where electronic data is commonplace! Washi has its durability and taste, just like ancient documents from hundreds of years ago still exist in Japan. There is a charm of rock "wabi" and "sabi". There is depth. The techniques and traditions of Japanese paper making have been handed down from generation to generation. wonderful!

Man, it's cool, I'll take less good paper if it means avoiding all unnecessary traditional bullshit, thanks. I mean, high-five to skill and all that, but fucking hell, those people can't drink a cup of water without wrapping it in 1300 years of tradition and "dedication". Was cool when I was 13 year old edgy teen. Now it's fucking tedious.

@@karcistvahlae1207 You'll appreciate it again when you're older. It's not just about making a high quality product, or having pride in your work, it's also a form of meditation through motion, a way to zone out and remove yourself from a place, year, event, issues, surroundings and more. When you're focusing on something like this while working, you naturally don't have to think about much else, and it is therapeutic. You only have one thing to think about, and it is what is in front of you while working.

I think that he knows about it, and he decided to continue on this way. Traditional processes give more details to paper: the "quality" is superior and price increases for it. Each sheet of paper is unique, because one sheet has different constitution, size, even errors (and they are part of its beauty).

This is beyond fascinating. Then again, everything about the Japanese culture is fascinating. The dedication, and worth ethic is only surpassed by the incredibly deep respect of their own culture and heritage. Here in the U.S. we have no work-ethic, or respect for culture and heritage. But, we just LOVE making the world think we give a sh*t about the environment, and have “no bail” reform. So, we have those things going for us….
