Hey there prof. I’ve been wanting to leave this comment for a long while and frankly haven’t had the courage to for some time. I think it’s fitting that I leave it on the series that got me into your channel. I started playing magic in 2018, which is almost 6 years ago now. The first video if yours I ever watched was the GRN booster box game. I think you’ll understand that magic was truly a game of joy for me. I made friends I never thought I’d have. I had the best time the first two years I played this wonderful game. Covid came and put me into a long season of depression, like many others. I left a comment some time ago (a couple years at this point) about how I was depressed and that your videos were helping me get through it. And that was true - your videos gave me something to look forward to every week. I wanted to thank you Prof, for giving me that. I’m sure I’m not along when I say that your content has done many amazing things for many magic the gathering players. Thats only part of the point though. Your channel, and by extension, this game, got me to where I am today. I grew up with Magic the gathering and there isn’t a person I associate more with the glory days of my time playing than you. From a Magic player to another, thank you. You have done more for me than many people without even knowing it. I’m no longer depressed, and I can look back and remember how you and your frequent videos gave me something to smile and laugh at - a rare commodity a couple years ago. I remember watching the video you bravely released about depression (something I could never fathom doing). Strangely, that video gave me the motivation to keep going when I was at my lowest. Thank you, TCC for all you do for this community.

Hello professor. If you want a little laugh, here in France the booster box of Murder at Karlov Manor is sold for 200€ (around 215$) on Amazon and 240€ (around 258$) at my local game store ... For the same price i can get a Set booster box AND a bundle of my choice ... Anyway, i have been subscribed since 2 years and channels like yours makes me really happy that i pushed my english learning this far. So thank you for all the content and i wish the best to College !

My son and I always open one box of a new standard set, just for the joy of cracking packs and doing a couple winston drafts. I got my box of MKM play boosters at the cut-rate price of $118.99 from one of the big ebay sellers. Our experience was similar to yours. Our most valuable mythic was under $2. Best card in the box was $8. And we even hit 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th most valuable rares in the set (in terms of normal-border prices), yet they only range from $5-8, and the surveil lands will surely come down in time. I really can't justify doing this anymore.

I'm loving the play of Karkov Marknor and I love a lot of the cards, but the value is pretty rough.

Here in Canada including taxes, a play booster box cost 240$CAD. I mean, it is the same price I paid for a Master25 box five years ago. Play box are barely selling for this set on my biggest online LGS store in the country. I think it is just overly expensive for what it is.

He could've actually had quite a bit more. At the time of recording, Slime Against Humanity (a common) was going for over $2 (almost $3) and he skipped all commons. Though it still would've been short, the total should be approximately $2-$14 more depending on if and how many he pulled.

I'm from Germany and I'm just stunned. The prices here went up from 4,5€ per pack to 5,5€ per pack - that is more then the price of set-boosters before! I won't buy any sealed products anymore, even if I used to collect the bundle cases.

Love it took half a box to find a rare more valuable (and just barely) than the uncommon in box 1. They really knocked it out of the park to celebrate the price increase!

I think Prof has said most all of what needs be said about the boosters, box prices, and his booster box game is a channel fave obviously, nothing for me to add there. But let me just say that the playlist of music he runs on these videos always gets me going, I'm jamming out to Arena while watching Prof open packs, and Future Cha Cha is maybe my favorite track on here. For those on the oregon coast, Sports Card 101 in Lincoln City always keeps the price at $115 for mtg booster boxes.

The Keeps ad was positive affirmation asmr with The Professor. That said, I'm going to do something I rarely do. I'm going to defend WOTC. When they design a set, they are just trying to design a cool set. The individual can decide for themselves if they accomplished that. They have no control over what the singles market decides a card is worth and they do not design sets with singles in mind. The set is meant to be drafted. A core set is meant for building decks. They do not care about the secondary singles market.

The timing of the video makes this interesting. The surveil lands just jumped up in price due to modern jumping on them. Not enough to make much of a difference, but would have made it a little less pathetic.

For roughly the same price i got a heavy hitters box and all the precons. Pretty fun set. Like specialized helmets . Knucklehead is a funny card

I felt you dying inside as you asked people to subscribe, but must confess this reminder made me realize I hadn't rang the bell yet.

I've only bought 4 boxes so far, one was CMR, two were MB and one was Jumpstart. I've got a bit higher value on each, thanks to few specific cards, like Mana Drain and Opposition Agent in CMR (along with Ramos, Spectator Seating and Command Beacon), Demonic Tutor (and Scourge of the Throne while it was still cca 10x more expensive than it is now lol) in MB, and Elesh Norn and Torment of Hailfire in other box, and Phyrexian Tower, Vito, Muxus, Cathar's Crusade in JMP. But watching these videos, and knowing that if I didn't get one of these cards, I'd go heavily under the value of the box is what dissuades me from getting more boxes always. X_x I still plan to get one JMP2 box, and maybe CLB too for the heck of it. -_- I'd probably cave in if they were available here and at reasonable prices, but since I have to order them from other countries... on top of that, there's barely anyone to trade with. More recently I've got ZNR bundle for 15E, got two Pathways and Moraug, so those three alone cover the price I've paid for the bundle... but if I've had paid it 30-35E for how much it usually goes...

Rav remastered, although super skeptical upon purchasing, has treated me very well. I've managed to pull 3 retro foil shocks, 2 retro shocks, and 3 regular shocks, all out of a a few 3 pack draft boosters. I quit while I was ahead.

In Belgium, i have been in an LGS where they keep the prices of draft as before. This means that they have to lower the prizes, i mean the awards for the top players of the night. They may change it in the future, tho.

The first draft at my local had 7 people, strange considering the pre-release attendance was higher than normal. The draft had 6 myhtics, one from the list, and all abut 2 were the same colour. I am not 100% but it does feel like some packs are seeded to a couple of colours.

So, a couple of things... first the collapse of standard means unless a card moves the needle in commander it doesnt have value. Second, I guess we need to think about where we derive value from booster boxes... is it just the value of the cards inside for resale or is it to play the game as intended?

I seem to have made out like a bandit with my one prerelease kit. Got a foil Leyline, Special Guest Field of the Dead, and Cryptic coat. Also, I thought they may have made the signed art cards more common, because I got 3 gold signed art cards in the 1 prerelease kit, but after watching this video that is apparently not the case.....I just got a bonkers prerelease kit lol

The change to play boosters is so frustrating. Besides the increase in price, it leads to things like Jace Wielder of Mysteries ruining your draft out of sheer chance (I say this as someone who was lucky enough to get one in prerelease). As much as I appreciate WoTC saving limited (even if it is probably so they can keep making “draft chaff” cards), it’s frustrating seeing it not only increase in price, but also degrade in quality, at least in my opinion.

I almost never play the Hasbro MTG lottery, but when I picked up singles during pre-release I decided to buy a bundle. The sad thing is that I had almost the same re-sell value in 9 packs than prof had in 36. I didn't even pull one Slime Against Humanity. My lucky pulls were Undercity Sewers (Borderless) and a surprising Crashing Footfalls (Guest Artist Borderless)! It is a fun set but damn, 140 for 36 packs of this is nuts.

Honestly, my impression of the card pool for Murders was pretty depressing. I was trying to build a new Arena Brawl deck using the new cards and very few were worth including.

Most new sets I buy two collector boosters, as my collection is too large, but I like cracking packs. I mostly play Arena. The two Markov Collector Boosters were the least impressive Collector Boosters I have bought, both in terms of value and play value. I likely would have found a similar level of value putting that same money in Arena cosmetics :D

So for my interaction to help the channel, I want to propose a video: please do one on how prices are set for singles early on. Vaguely later on you have a bunch of market things like a few small sellers deciding they have ten of those vein rippers, and better to get $6 now than maybe $7 when 50 others sell first on a listing site. Bonus would be going into some of the price setting for reprints of special new collector things. I've enjoyed your booster box games, and you've generally sold me on buying singles from your vids these past few years. As you are a "prof" I think you would entertain and educate many people if you could explain a bit of it. (And no, I'm not trying to get your face and case in a special edition of MKM if you dig too deeply into a hidden illuminati price fixing hidden on the Plane of New Capenna who then ship you off to be Compleated. Just the basic initial price setting, whether by cabal, chaos guess, or some other method!)

Every day I think more and more that the optimal way to enjoy magic is cube, both for your wallet and for fun (or drafting/playing your favorite format through cockatrice or tabletop sim, that also doesn't require purchasing fancy paper squares (or just proxy everything if you prefer playing irl, fuck it, the ups store charges pennies compared to wizards and the secondary market))

You way undersold those Surveil lands.
