The Prometheus Writes Alpha Pen is a great EDC pen which takes Montblanc Rollerball or Fineliner refills, and this version's milled from solid titanium, making for a functional gem of a pen.
Unfortunately, the price is way up there at $240. So, if you're head-over-heels in love, or if you can find one used at a more realistic price, pick one up. But otherwise, keep your eyes peeled for more great EDC pen options.

Jason makes good stuff. I have three lights, and the brass top you have. A battery leaked in my copper Beta, so I sent it to him with a note that I would gladly pay for a repair. He sent me a new tube, which mine had battery acid in it. And he would not take any $. So I bought my third light, a Beta brass. Good guy.

Fantastic review! I've had one of these on my "wishlist" for so long. I actually like the Electro Nickel so I'll likely go that route. You covered all my concerns perfectly. Thanks!

also on the new bolts for the cap, it's not a hex or torx, does it come with the tool to remove? or can it be removed if the clip is bent or anything?

I assume the Monte Blanc refills won't do so well with Rite in the Rain notepads? Girlfriend bought some and we have some Kickstarter pens on the way...she prefers a smoother gel pen but I'm thinking we'll have to go Schmidt Easyflow 9000

Wacom Stylus Duo. Its a pen and a stylus. I use is all the time in my retail/CS job. I love the way it writes and the fact that it runs our touch screen computers. I also like how fast it is to uncap and cap. Another nice feature is that it looks appropriate for a job setting. The down side is that the paint is wearing off of my second one. Also the price of 14.98 on amazon right now is awesome.

oh and one pen I really want to like is the Ti2 TechLiner but I know for a fact that if I get one I'll end up hating it because of the magnets in the ends. if would probably start sticking to other things in my pocket and even start magnetizing other stuff around it - even maybe my automatic watches, which is a bad thing. I also heard that with some refills it won't write as the magnet will interfere with the flow of ink :o\

I cant imagine why they would have changed to such few threads.. it doesnt even look like a full rotation to secure the cap, or a single row of threads cut in even that's what stopping me from buying one otherwise I would in a heartbeat. you said that he said that the threads can vary I wonder if its possible if I order to have them pick me one out with maybe at least 2 rows of threads lol or more than 3/4 rotation to secure the cap

it also took me forever to score one on the secondary market but it was a worthy hunt. I love mine as well. Great review! Interestingly enough mine has no makers mark.

Nick, you might take a look at the Parker 5th technology pens. Pretty sturdy,, fairly inexpensive, look like fountain pens but aren't and they write pretty nice.

A question/ suggestion and a pen suggestion to review/ try out. To address the unscrewing problem, have you tried a bigger o-ring to increase the friction required to turn the cap? I had a hinderer investigator pen for a couple weeks and o-rings fixed it for me...sold it though because I hated the fisher space pen. For the pen suggestion, I've been interested in Big Designs Ti Click pens, but just never pulled the trigger on it. I have an Everyman Grafton Pen on the way from Massdrop. It's aluminum but at $25 I paid ($35 retail?) it doesn't break the bank. I look forward to getting that in the mail. Apparently I gravitate to clicky tops.

I hadn't thought about the O-Ring there, but I'll take a look! And I agree on the Investigator needing O-Rings. I'll check that out, thanks!

I want to get this pen, how is the patina on the nickel? Has it gotten bad? I'm torn between which one I should get.
@Ryomichi
@Ryomichi 7 жыл бұрын
have you bought it? It is nickel plated, you could expect the patina look like a quarter dollar coin. If you wipe your pen every time, the longer the shine will last. But if not, there will be grey cloudy hue.

Hey Nick, another solid review. I have the aluminum version and I love it, like you say i cant justify the titanium version. check out the Maxmadco bolt action pen with grooves, if you havent already. thats one of my favorite pen it takes parker styles refill.
@lucacadianalbert
@lucacadianalbert 8 жыл бұрын
+Rotten3ullet The Maxmadco are nice pens, but their pocket clips are horrible. After having a few pens leak in my pocket, I've also grown to dislike clicky/bolt pens unless they are destined to never leave my desk. Karas kustoms are pretty nice pens. I like those quite a bit.
@Rotten3ullet
@Rotten3ullet 8 жыл бұрын
+Luc Albert haha the Maxmadco pocket clip works fine for me. I've been carrying mine for almost 2 years never had a leak issue. and the bolt action is fun to play it. I have a karas kustoms retrakt, the quality, the fit and finish is just not there man. and that German clicky mechanism they use and alot of pens use it too, is just doesnt work for me. they keep getting stuck I replaced the mechanism once and its doing the same thing.
@lucacadianalbert
@lucacadianalbert 8 жыл бұрын
+Rotten3ullet I guess is depends what shirt/pants you are wearing. on thicket pockets the clip doesn't work as well - I have the same issue with my TiBolt. I've never owned any of the Karas Kustoms Retrakt or Bolt pens so I can't comment on that mechanism. I have the Render K and Render K G2 and have no problem with the quality and finish.

+Rotten3ullet I have two Maxmadco pens, one in titanium and one in steel and I love them! The titanium is a better weight, for me, and doesn't need the grooves but the steel is a tiny bit heavy and slick. That said, the steel version holds up really well in the pocket and with a Fisher cartridge, it's always able to write and the ink lasts forever. Never had a single issue with leaks or the clip. The Karas Retrakt is not as nicely finished and the clicky mechanism sounds gritty and isn't very smooth, I own one and was let down a bit after receiving.

have you or has anyone had any issues with the threads? they just look to be so small, and so few, in pictures I literally cant even see the threads. it hardly looks like theres even a single full thread cut in. particularly on the more recent ones. has anyone had any issues with the recent ones? how many rotations does it typically take to secure the cap? just being that the threads are so small and so few, just worries me about the durability and longevity. I feel like all it might take is a single accidental cross thread and that be enough to inhibit the function. i wanna buy one so bad, I love the design, potentially my favorite pen design, just looking for some more first hand experience, and maybe either confirm or dismiss my concerns before I pull the trigger lol that's alot to spend on a pen, and alot of design/manufacturing work that goes into it, idk why the threads are so few. am I worrying over nothing on a pen I dont even own yet?😅

+Phil Ott I own a Matthew Martin tactical with faceted tips in copper. It's a great pen, really heavy and in my opinion, good looking. The only issue is it is a tactical pen with the pointed tip on the end whereas these are not.

He intended to make pen that captures the writing experience of a monblanc but without the fancy price tag. However, I think it cost too much, half as much as of a monblanc, which is still excessive. Some other full machined pens cost around $100, His cost a quite a bit more, almost triple for Ti. I say that's a big fail.
