When I learned about Isabella’s backstory, I was truly able to understand what she said when she stopped Norman and Emma the first time. I don’t necessarily think that becoming a mom was just for survival, it was also to show the future kids mercy. She knew that she wasn’t the first, and she would be far from the last, so the best thing she could do was give the children in her care all of the love and affection she had to offer so when their inevitable “adoption” day comes, they would have led lives with nothing but laughter and smiles. She even hums this to herself during shipment days because she isn’t allowed to cry.

Plot twist: Isabella loves all her children and raises them to be high quality produce not so they would be valuable food, but so they could be smart enough to find out the truth and escape and find the freedom she never had edit: it's not a spoiler its just a theory, I haven't read the manga so idk if its actually true

What makes Isabella’s situation different from Emma’s is that Emma was never alone. Even though she had lost Norman, she still had Ray, Gilda and Don. In the manga, it seems that Isabella truly had no other friends other than Leslie and when he was gone, her entire support system collapsed. Isabella never wanted to become a Mama but she chose to be one because her love for Leslie and her desire to honor his memory were the only things that drove her to live.
