An even better option is a drip water container, generally sold for animals like rabbits & guinea pigs, the ones where they have to push the ball at the bottom to get water out of it. I never give that alone, I like my birds to have the experience of being able to stick their beak & head into the water if they want to, but I have rescues, one being a plucker & she LOVES the drip water container, the licking it seems to be soothing for her & she will do it instead of plucking quite a lot of the time. I also actually have a salt lick for her, I'm still unsure the health benefits/negatives of that, but I added it cause I saw it recomended to help with plucking & when stressed, she loves to sit where her drip water bottle & salt lick are & alternate between the 2 to calm herself down. The drip water bottles need next to no maintenence. I use bottled water in it, cause I feel more confident it lasts without needing daily changes & I change it when empty, maybe once a month or so. To clean, I find a bottle brush & straw cleaning brush work well. Not sure if there's a need, but I figure bacteria or whatever may possibly build up on it, so I clean, even though it already looks totally clean. The one I have, I actually bought many, many years ago, when I had budgies that were really not tame, but that I had loose in my bedroom when I was a teenager. They had an area above my junk that was "theirs", but it was a little hard to get to, so the drip water bottle was perfect. I gave them dog bowls of fresh water too, but would sometimes forget to fill them, would realise they were empty when my budgies started drinking from the drip water container. My lorikeets now are much tamer & more demanding & they get daily water bowl changes with their little water cups, but the drip water container is a fantastic back up for when they poo in the other containers, plus, as I said, my plucker in particular just loves the texture of the metal ball on her tongue to soothe herself. I have tried the ones you describe in this video, still have one in the cage actually, but mine have no real interest in it, but despite that, it still seems to get gungy & yuck & need regular cleaning, unlike the drip one. Only downsides of the drip one I've found are that 1. I don't feel it's that natural for them not to be able to stick their heads in the water, so I don't think it should replace other waters completely (although commercial chicken operations use drip water containers exclusively) 2. They can drip if not sitting properly upright, so I tend to position mine over my other water dish 3. They're designed for rabbits/guinea pigs, so don't generally have the bird cage attachment connections that bird specific water containers have, which is why mine doesn't sit exactly upright & sometimes drips 4. They are more expensive than the ones in this video, about $10-$15 where I am, but the one I'm using is over 20 years old & has been used for 2 sets of birds, 2 rabbits & 1 guinea pig & it's still in perfect condition. I have actually tried to buy a new one, but the place I was looking that sells them cheapest always seems to be out of stock of the small size (they come in up to 2 litre sizes!)

Wow you're an expert on this! I do love your point about birds being able to stick their heads in the water. ✧◝(⁰▿⁰)◜✧

I noticed that after a few years of use, scale can accumulate on that plastic water container and it is very difficult to remove. Although it is not a big problem because I can buy a new water container for only 2 dollars. But I still think they are the best solution.

The first time I see your channel, I think it is useful for the water bottle, no matter the size, because you replace the water every day because it may get dirty because the bird puts grains and scales in it. I wish you a nice day

I like them for birds that are sick or have a disability. If they only want to stay on 1 favorite perch you can place this nearby in a convenient way without taking up a lot of space.

I have been a bird guardian for over 50 years. The plastic water dispenser, mounted outside the cage, works fine, but you do have it keep it clean by using a toothbrush. At the same time, each day I put a small water dish in the bottom just in case the birds want or need to take a drink from there too. My thoughts are that I do not want my birds to be left without plenty and easily reached water. When I have to leave them overnight, once in a while, I put in several smaller cups so make certain all will be okay. Thanks.

My zebra finches are just so picky. I just bought this, but how do I get them even interested to go over and check it out? Also does this get mounted above a perch? Or does it matter where it is mounted? None of the videos I've seen actually show a bird using it.

I really like the plastic water towers because it keeps the bird from contaminating their water with feces or food pellets. I haven’t had the experience of my birds knocking the towers down because my birds are small finches. And I use a specially design straw brush that makes it easy to clean, the water container and the little spout dispenser. I would be interested to know if other bird owners use the glass water bottles that you hang on the outside of the cage. It has a little metal nozzle with a little metal ball that only emits a certain amount of water as the bird or small animal drinks from the tip, do you know if other bird lovers use these specially designed water bottles? My concern is that my birds would not know how to drink from it and would get dehydrated

Hmmm, I don't know very many other bird owners. However, I did consider that same type of water bottle but I also was worried about them dehydrating. I guess if you were to add that it would have to be a secondary water. Sometimes when I'm not looking my budgies will steal some water from the aquariums. They've been doing it for about a year now and it hasn't harmed them at all. It probably helps that they're all natural tanks and don't have any chemicals. They're little stinkers, that for sure! XD

If they're having trouble drinking from it, put it where the old water used to be or next to the food. Give them their old water container too but put it in a less accessible and convenient spot. 👌 Hope it works!

DO NOT have your bird drink tap water as it can really harm them in the long run.
