it's pretty ironic how Huxley and Orwell had opposing views on what leads us to destruction, yet they were both simultaneously right about it.

Spin lol fair enough, in my case i wasnt even planning on trying it the night i did - and it can be detrimental if you have mental health conditions. I consider myself super lucky to have come put of that trip the way i did! So yeah i dont advocate it, the decision of trying that strong of a psychedelic/going on that kind of trip has got to come 100% from the individual imo. Its not up to me or anyone to tell another what to do with their consciousness :)

Did LSD last summer during a dark point in my life when I lost my motivation to life, it's not for everyone and it may even break certain people, but for my taking Acid made me have dark strips often and forced me to deal with my demons and made me realize what I want in life. Haven't been the same since, killed the existential dread you get when you're 12 so I finally got over my depression at the age of 17

Whilst I’m happy, with how this affected you I have to say that no one really points out that these are issues which can(with usually more effort) be solved without it too. It feels like people say it’s the only way out, but there are always other options not to say that psychedelics are bad or anything. They are merely situational for everyone, and sometimes it should or shouldn’t be taken.

Aldous Huxley was one of the important influences on my development - he is what inspired a life-long love of learning in me, and has led me to now become a Neuroscience PhD student studying the mind, brain, and psychedelic drugs. I wouldn't have taken this route in life if it was not for his immensely inspiring life and way of being. He was way ahead of his time, with an insight into things that was both extraordinarily broad and deep, from the most mundane social dynamics of the British intelligentsia, to the most profound realizations of mystics and psychonauts. Really a towering figure in the 20th century. Thank for you this video.

I've done several psychedelics. Shrooms, Acid, and DMT. They all opened my eyes to how cruel I was to myself. I'd go into more detail, but... Well... I stopped smoking cigs altogether, and took a vow against future self mutilation. Even when I dissociated the last time, my main goal at the time when I wasn't really there was to feed my hungry belly. I've come very far. ^^

Plato also discovered the concept of dualism after taking an ancient Greek brew. It is still unknown to us what exactly he took, but his report describes carrying out a ritual in a cave where he saw the souls of those around them leave the shells of their bodies.

You couldn't talk about it at all ; otherwise you'd be killed. R. Gordon Wasson explored these rituals, who lasted not less than 1800 years, and found, with the help of Albert Hoffman, that they probably extract LSA (Lysergic Acide Amide) from a fungus who grew on rice, not far from Eleusis. It was water solube, so pretty easy thing to do, even for a more primitive society.

Aldous Huxley truly means a lot to me, despite having died before my father was even born. His book feel like genuine self-help books, in the same vain as how he perceived LSD, a mere tool that is up to the experiencer to decide. He has helped make so much sense of both the world, my surroundings and me on a frequency I feel like no person I know in real life matches, he resonates to me on this level never seen before. What I just do not understand is how Huxley (according to google trends) is becoming less and less popular, despite being ahead of even most people of our time. I really hope more people will find out about the man and read his works, because his genuity extends way beyond that of Brave New World: think about the books he mentioned here (Perennial philosophy, Island, Brave New World revisited) but also 'Ends and Means; and 'Heaven and Hell' (not to be confused with the 'between heaven & hell). There's just so much to learn from this guy, and if I had a single wish it would be seeing his reaction to the modern world and hearing his take on it. I think even he would be astonished at just how accurate his claims have really become, throughout reading the biggest works of his, I've only stumbled upon a single thing that didn't come out to be true, and it was so minor I don't even remember what it was.

Fuck they need to make Brave new world into a film man I also think Huxley’s idea of the future definitely correlated more with our current society than Orwell’s- especially with the overstimulation of information driving us to egoism, and overstimulation of pleasure driving us to passivity and decadence. Sgt. Pepper’s also has represented Simon Rodia, the Italian steel worker who single handedly built The Watts Towers and has been compared to Gaudi. He built the towers on the property that his house sat on, and after completing the work gave the keys to his neighbor and disappeared. The City of Los Angeles eventually received the towers, and concerned they were a public risk attempted to tear them down. But they proved too strong to easily demolish. The towers are today in the middle of the Hood® of South Central LA. Since Rodia was single, he could be said to deserve to be on the album cover more than Huxley, who was married…

I read the entirety of The Doors of Perception while sleep-deprived on the train, Heaven and Hell as well. It's a truly unique book, I haven't read anything like it before or since. One fascinating idea Huxley brings up in the book is what he calls 'the mind at large', comparing 'the mind at large' to a sort of foreign land accessible via psychedelics. It creates an interesting distinction between what the brain is capable of in general as opposed to its normal, survival oriented functioning. I'd recommend it to anyone interested in psychedelics, the nature of consciousness, and fans of art as well (he makes some interesting observations relating art and the perception of artists to the psychedelic potential of the brain)

altough to be fair, bad trips are pretty minging in the moment, but there is always a lesson to be learned from them and is a good way to free yourself from your own mental prison by realising that the cage you're in is actually unlocked.

I was fortunate enough to study these two books in college in 1969. It changed the course of my life. I stopped watching tv most of the time, and I'll never have a 'puck' in my house to turn on my lights and to listen to my every word. It's the worst combination of both.

Also immortalised in the Doctor Strange movie. The altered perceptions on reality discussed in that film capped with the late great Stan Lee sat on a bus reading The Doors Of Perception while sorcerers are altering reality around him. It was that Easter egg that brought me to him

I need to get around to reading Huxley's works. I myself used to be a psychonaut and thus find that I relate to fellow trippers fairly well. Tripping to find oneself is in my opinion the best way to use psychedelics. I will say though that different substances have different effects. On acid your brain suddenly thinks in ways you never thought possible and you have a nice light show. On shrooms it feels as if you transcend your body and the visuals are more aurora esque, I've also only experienced ego death on mushrooms. Though on retrospect lsd can have that transcendent feeling as well because I always knew it kicked in when I felt as if my brain was taking a back seat, I've also experienced seeing things in third person a bunch on lsd. So I suppose the major difference is lsd is more of a buzzing feeling while shrooms are a rooted feeling.

Utopia and Dystopia are 2 sides to one coin I would say the one difference is the choice to opt out if you dont have a choice to leave the system you exist in, it doesnt matter how good/wonderful it is to some or a majority or even everybody, its a Dystopia

The modern world is a combination of 1984, Brave New World, and Fahrenheit 451. We're smack dab in the middle. Also, it would be interesting to have a video on Murray Rothbard and his application of the praxeological method, or of Hans-Hermann Hoppe's ideas on argumentation ethics.
