ORIGINAL INFO: This comic truly has a message of peace: that all people can come together and say this thing is awful.
RUMINATIONS: With how successful the last Previously On segment had been, I decided to once again ask my fellow newer contributors for some. I don’t think the results were QUITE as hilarious, though of course Calluna taking on a copyright bot is always a good thing, plus the continuation of Rocked Reviews' insane Doctor. I think part of the problem is that there were more dramatic ones than usually necessary, when it should be a better combination of silly and serious. The guy who goes "Wait, what?" is a fan who leant me their bridge set for the "Ghost of the Machine" arc. We recorded that quick bit of him in my outfit just for funzies in case I ever wanted to use it in something like a Previously On segment. Only took like 3 years, but I finally did it!
Not much else can be said for the comics themselves, which is just an extraordinarily weak story for the concept of turning the Punisher black for no real reason. Other than the fact that he’s not recognized AS the Punisher, it contributes nothing - no new narrative possibilities, no new character growth… it’s just done and over with. At least when Lois Lane was turned black in a goofy story previously it was to highlight actual racism and micro-aggressions faced by black people on an everyday basis. This? The most him being black affected the story was the racist cops from the first issue.
On a small note, we are now just under 1 year behind on the reruns! Ruminations will end in two weeks, since we're reaching the point where videos are almost caught up. Before Blip collapsed, the plan was to just continue on for several more years, with maybe slowing to one episode per week when we reached a year behind, but of course circumstances forced me to accelerate things. I hope people have enjoyed the reruns up until now and that they especially enjoy being caught up, where we'll have simultaneous releases on Screenwave and youtube as we near October!

Fun fact, when these issues resurfaced, Frank Castle went on Twitter and personally apologized for doing black face, even though it was Marvel’s idea and he had no control over the creative process of the story. Luke Cage also stated he held no ill will toward Castle and enjoyed their team-up together, saying they are still friends, though that may have recently changed after Castle’s behavior during Secret Empire.

I’m posting this on a couple different videos covering this storyline. They could have explained Luke’s lack of shock at Frank transforming back by having him make some comment like, “I had a friend named Danny that I used to have all kinds of crazy adventures with, so I guess I’m not as easy to surprise as the average guy,” but no, they couldn’t even do that much.

It does make a little sense why Cage purposely tries to shove everyone away. After Danny Rand/ Iron Fist was murdered, Cage separated himself from everyone he knew and went into a sort of a "I'll never love again" mindset where he pushed everyone away.

Wait... why did Frank's hair change? He seemed to have super curly hair while he was black, but that doesn't make any sense unless the surgeon was actually a sorceress. Or maybe she gave him a perm?

You know, the best part of the "just shoot for the head" thing is that they'd probably get through the kevlar eventually anyways, particularly if a bunch of people were constantly shooting at him...bullet resistant.

Even military vests, which use ceramic plate to handle medium arms, need the plates replaced at the very least after an engagement. A soldiering lass I knew would speak how it was just safer that if there was a lull in a firefight, to retreat and replace the plate mid-operation to reduce any chance of failure if they could.

Miller wrote a three-part storyline in Daredevil #182-184 that involved the Punisher. I don't recall it being noteworthy other than it being the pairs first meeting.

Yea, Luke Cage is proof that there's a way out, you just have to get sent to prison for murder, volunteer for a science project and get super powers then decide to escape prison and turn your life around as a super hero! EASY!

At this point i am surprised Frank wasn't turned into a woman before. AND no i don't mean A woman tried to be the punisher or a woman became punisher after frank was presumed dead, I mean that frank was for some x or y reason turned into a woman. I am surprised at NO POINT there has been a story where punisher deals with superhuman trafficking and he thas to imrpove his MO to keep it up with mobsters trying to use the "new weapons" (robots, mutans, inhumans, aliens, atlanteans, etc)

Remember those shows that do thirty minute recaps, and have you wondering when the actual episode would start, and then the recap ends, the opening plays, you get all excited, and then the show ends. I miss those shows.

Let's also sin frank giving the African American mother a gun, which is unregistered, along with ,since its frank, probably no cereal numbers and, as seen in the pervious issue, racist and bigoted police officers in the city. Great job frank. A regular brain trust there.

Kingpin was defeated by DAREDEVIL in Daredevil comics. He is a secondary antagonist to Frank and a primary one to Daredevil and Spider-Man. That's why the Punisher was used in story but not in action. It was a DD thing.

Cage’s attitude makes no sense given his history. Yeah, in the old days he was always “the hero for hire,” but he was also a nice guy who did heroic things (like in Hero for Hire #7 which Linkara has also reviewed where he stopped a kid from getting beaten). He isn’t a self-centered jerk; just a guy trying to make ends meet while still fulfilling the great responsibilities that come with his great powers.

I still find it odd that Linkara hadn't heard the term China Cat (slang for heroin) before Rise of Arsenal. I mean it is mentioned in a lot of other types of media, especially songs. Ever heard the Grateful Dead song "China Cat Sunflower"?

With boring and bland protagonists like Frank and Luke you need a antagonist with personality. Batman would be terribly dull without his colorfull villains. Sadly this comic fails there as well. If you want a druglord villain DC knows how it's done. Imagine how much better this would be with Snowflame. Granted, everything is better with Snowflame but especialy comics with boring protagonists like these two.

The Batman stories you've been reading sound badly written. It's very possible to make Batman interesting without giving him wacky villains. He does have a personality. He just represses most of it so he can focus on his work, which itself is a personality trait. The boring hero/wacky villain dynamic went out with the '80s. Heroes are allowed to have personality now, so there's absolutely no excuse for underdeveloping them, especially since real life people, who also have personalities, are supposed to relate to them.

@@kimifw58 Well not just that, the whole idea of someone being that traumatized with his parent's death that it would haunt him his whole life that way has actual psychological complexity when you think about it. Though, not being a superhero comics reader, I am not sure if it was ever exploited.

To much sarcasm, like it was perfectly understandable he gave that woman who lived in a high crime area and was just exposed as a snitch, a gun. Know accidents could happen but it still made sense to a degree, even if you wouldn't have done it yourself.

I'm 27, white, and spend all day reading comics and playing video games. I also made $4900 today on a stock trade that took less than a half hour that I drank through.. It really doesn't matter how well you do at street crime, youll never outdue a white guy with a computer..
